How can mid-size manufacturers achieve product velocity for competitive advantage?
http://www.ptc.com/mid-market/ For a mid-size manufacturer, the biggest challenge lies in getting their products to market first, ahead of the competition. When developing opportunities in new markets or with new product lines - companies spend valuable resources before they realize real value. Increasing complexity -- in product designs, development processes, and management of suppliers and design partners, make it critical for mid-size companies to ensure efficient repeatability, while remaining flexible. Lack of a central source of accurate and up-to-date engineering data, and the use of multiple CAD tools add to the complexity of versions and configuration management. To successfully apply the concepts of an agile methodology without sacrificing a process-oriented approach, a manufacturer needs a way to connect internal design with engineers, partners, and even customers. This video highlights the challenges faced by mid-size manufacturers, and presents solutions to accelerate time to market. The most actionable of these challenges is the lack of a central source of accurate and up-to-date engineering data; a "single source of truth." Use of multiple CAD tools within a single team and varying data types add to the complexity of versions and configuration management. To successfully apply the concepts of an agile methodology without sacrificing a process-oriented approach, a manufacturer needs a way to connect internal design with engineers, partners, and even customers. This video highlights the challenges faced by mid-size manufacturers and presents solutions to accelerate time to market. Along with an overview on how to optimize your engineering processes for growth, this video introduces the PTC value roadmap -- a PTC approach to product design and development in this ever increasing complex engineering environment.

SWOT analysis in practice - Starbucks -------------------------------- Strategy analysis has two main branches – analysis of a firm’s external environment and analysis of a firm’s internal environment. SWOT is a famous framework that allows us to combine the two types of analysis. SWOT is sometimes referred to as internal-external analysis. The acronym SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. The first two, Strengths and Weaknesses, are related to a firm’s internal environment, while the last two, Opportunities and Threats, consider its external environment. Internal strengths and external opportunities are vertically paired as helpful elements, while internal weaknesses and external threats are paired as harmful elements. if we perform a company analysis, under strengths, we would expect to see its core competences, the areas where the business excels and has a competitive advantage over competitors. Weaknesses are areas that need improvement. Such vulnerabilities place a company at a disadvantage when competing against other firms. Opportunities can be seen as favorable factors existing in a company’s external environment, in the industry where it operates, and have the potential to improve its current results and competitive positioning. Threats arise in a company’s external environment and might harm its current business.

Marketing Minute 090 “Advantages & Disadvantages of Comparative Advertising” (Marketing Tactics)
Comparative Advertising occurs when a company presents a direct argument that their particular product or brand is superior to another company’s product or brand. It can be used with a variety of product offerings such as goods, services, experiences, locations, properties, and ideas. It’s a common practice in areas such as politics, where one candidate is often compared directly against another. There are several advantages to comparative advertising. First, it can provide buyers with a clear distinction between two brands, highlighting their differences and similarities. Second, it can help to introduce newer brands or product improvements to audiences that are not familiar with these brands or attributes. Finally, even if the comparisons are not necessarily strong, it can elevate one brand into the buyer’s consideration set of other more prestigious brands, just by being in the same comparison set. But there disadvantages as well. Comparative advertising that demeans or pokes fun at an audience’s favored brand runs the risk of alienating those potential buyers, making them much less inclined to consider the advertised brand. Also, when comparative advertising focuses on the negative aspects of the other brand, it’s unlikely to build brand affinity for the advertised brand. So maybe in the end, we should treat comparative advertising like talking about other people: if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. **Be sure to subscribe to my channel so you don't miss any future episodes of Monday's Marketing Minute, where you’ll learn about: - Marketing Strategy and Tactics - Brand Development - Personal Branding and Professional Branding - Marketing Yourself - Marketing Leadership - Self-Improvement - and whatever relevant and related topics come our way. **Also, connect with me on any of the following: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/anthonymiyazaki Twitter: https://twitter.com/sensiblefolk Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sensiblefolk/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/AnthonyMiyazaki

Advantage through Vertical Integration - emerald™ Health Therapeutics - EMH | EMHTF
1 – Vertical integration is an important corporate strategy. Efficiency and reliability of a company can be significantly maximized by it. In a logistically complex industry, this is a great advantage over the competition. The vertical integration strategy fully controls several stages of a company's production and supply chain, either through ownership or through close partnerships with participating companies. 2 – For example, a fully vertically integrated cannabis company could, together with partners, own a plant cultivation to which an extraction and testing laboratory is connected. The advantage of such a company would be predictable harvests, which could be used for the production of pharmaceutical, botanical and nutraceutical products and, in addition, for the production of raw materials for further processing - for example, CBD for cannabis-based foods and/or beverages. 3 – Vertically integrated companies have superior control over the quality of their products. They can better adapt their production and supply lines to changing market conditions, an advantage in an economic sector where regulations can change rapidly. For example Emerald Health Therapeutics a licensed manufacturer of medical cannabis. As a vertically integrated company, it combines core competencies from decades of experience in pharmaceutical innovation with great agricultural expertise. 4 – Cannabis, as a newly approved product, is put to the test more than any other consumer product and quality controls are of crucial importance here. A control over the entire value chain ensured by the strategy of vertical integration thus offers the company more than just savings and convenience. For companies like Emerald Health Therapeutics, which have the capital and organization to achieve this, vertical integration could be the key to dominance in the sector. 5 – Emerald Health Therapeutics, Inc. (TSX.V: EMH / OTC: EMHTF / FFM: TBD) and its subsidiaries produce and distribute medical marijuana and cannabis oils in Canada. Together, these companies form an integration in almost all areas of the cannabis business. The goal of Emerald Health Therapeutics is to be at the forefront of the development of knowledge and products that offer the benefits of cannabis for wellness and health. 6 – Emerald has partnership with Village Farms for greenhouses. Both intend to develop the joint venture into one of the most consistent and reliable production facilities for cannabis quality products, supplying both Canadian and international wholesalers, retailers and distributors. The aim of the Joint Venture is to establish itself as a particularly cost-effective cannabis production company with total production costs of less than 1.00 CAD per gram in full operation. Source: https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2018/07/30/1543765/0/en/Emerald-Health-Therapeutics-Cannabis-Joint-Venture-Pure-Sunfarms-Receives-Sales-License-from-Health-Canada-for-1-1-Million-Square-Foot-Greenhouse.html 7 – Through its strategic alliance with Factors Group, Emerald Health Therapeutics positions itself as a market leader in natural health products with industry-leading cannabis value-added products, a significant growth opportunity in the legal market for medical products and cannabis for adults. Source: https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2018/08/27/1556803/0/en/Emerald-Health-Therapeutics-Signs-Term-Sheet-to-Access-Large-Scale-Extraction-Softgel-Production-and-New-Product-Development-Capabilities-Through-Strategic-Alliance-with-Factors-Gr.html 8 – Emerald’s business plan is to conceive and patent novel ideas, license or develop proprietary products, and display thoughtful leadership to position these products to the marketplace. These products may be protected by unique formulations, delivery methods, and applications. The company stated: "Even our recreational products, often based on unique cannabis strains, will benefit from our focus on delivering predictable doses and more sophisticated delivery methods." 9 – The company also announced: "These initiatives will be confidential until appropriate turning points, but we have filed for patents and are making great strides toward human studies. The dealer license held by Northern Vine Labs, provides valuable latitude to enable an array of research and product development initiatives and we are composing a highly creative campaign that will uniquely and strongly position Emerald products in the marketplace." 10 – LOOKING AHEAD. On June 19, 2018, the Canadian government approved the Cannabis Act, legalizing cannabis for recreational adult-use. Wholesales and retail sales will begin on October 17, 2018. Emerald is expanding capacity to meet the demand and growth of the anticipated legal adult-use market. Legalization makes Canada the world’s largest federally legal market for recreational cannabis, which Deloitte estimates may exceed $7.2B in 2019. Invest the Buffett Way - The secrets to a Durable Competitive Advantage
“ The secrets to a Durable Competitive Advantage” http://www.learnaccountingfast.com Further distinctions of a company with a Durable Competitive Advantage INSTITUTE SPECIFIC NO PEOPLE DEPENDANT: A system is in place to operate the business successfully. The business doesn't rely on any particular individual star to provide the advantage. The risk of the star person or people moving on for what ever reason is reduced when you have a system in place for all operations sales and marketing. The key is SYSTEMS. Put a system in place for every thing and consistently review the system for improvements and alter the system to suit the new found solution. NO OR LOW RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT. This gives the business an advantage, it has its product development system in place with no further development. This is an indication of a business with little or no competition to try and stay ahead of. Reducing operating costs and increasing the potential profit. LOW COST BUYER & SELLER: When a company has a system of buying in material at a lower price to support the best quality of the product or service, it has the ability to pass the savings to the customer in the form of lower product pricing. The key is an efficient system of purchasing and minimum waste of material and time in producing your product. Customer Experience as an Sustainable Competitive Advantage
Today in this post we will demonstrate how to make the customer experience a competitive differentiator. Our expert guest today is Cigna’s Vice President of Global Product Strategy and Operations, Rob Wentling. Cigna is one of the largest global health services companies in the world. Rob is accountable for creating and delivering an enterprise-wide product strategy including core product development and management processes critical in helping Cigna achieve its “Go Deep, Go Global, and Go Individual” strategy. During the interview, Rob will demonstrate how to make the customer experience a competitive differentiator by using Cigna as an example. Rob defined the customer experience as creating an experience design that exceeds customer’s expectations. Basically, providing them greater value than they anticipate or they expect. Watch as Rob describes how to understand which customer touch points are most critical, those moments that matter the most. If you construct an experience and you communicate very well with the customers and you segment your customers and understand which customer segments have the greatest needs at the different moments that matter, then you have a true level of competitive differentiation. Why is this topic important? Customer’s expectations have risen, and failure to provide an exceptional experience for each customer can result in poor revenue growth. Some customers prioritize their experience over product performance, believe it or not, when making a purchase decision. This requires a deep understanding of the customer’s journey and each touch point along the way. Mapping this customer’s journey is a difficult yet mission critical task that when done correctly can result in exceptional revenue growth. There are three primary ways to compete. Product differentiation, price, or customer experience. It seems like that we’re living in an era where product differentiation is harder and harder to obtain, product life cycles are much shorter. With global competitors, product features are sometimes easily copied quickly. It also is very difficult to sustain a price advantage. The customer experience is uniquely human and difficult to copy. If you can truly master that customer experience and how humans interact with other humans and differentiate in those moments that matter, that Rob mentioned earlier, it’s sustainable. Consider a workshop with your team at The Studio, SBI’s multimillion dollar, one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art executive briefing center located in Dallas, Texas. A visit to The Studio increases the probability of making your number because the sessions are built on the proven strength and stability of SBI, the industry leader in B2B sales and marketing.

Aero-TV: Innovative Advantage - AEA 2015 New Product Introduction
Aero-TV Presents Innovative Advantage at the 2015 AEA New Product Introduction Session ANN Again Partners With The Aircraft Electronics Association To Bring You The 2015 New Product Introduction Session... LIVE! Aero-TV presents Innovative Advantage at the AEA New Product Introductions on April 8-11, 2015, during the official opening of the 58th annual Aircraft Electronics Association International Convention & Trade Show in Dallas, Texas. The video was recorded and produced by the Aero-News Network. For six consecutive years, the Aero-News Network has been privileged to work alongside the staff of the AEA in order to bring the aviation world the info, excitement, and critical news of interest to aviators and other aviation professionals the world over. Previous year's efforts were a watershed effort for us... we have produced well over 100 hours of programming, nearly 60 of it LIVE, and thereafter produced hundreds of individual programs that served the needs of our community not just during the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 AEA Convention and Tradeshows -- but every day since then. Tens of thousands of people have watched these programs, we have received RAVE REVIEWS from virtually every corner of the aviation industry, and it was clear that this effort was one that directly benefited the avionics community far more than we originally envisioned. This happened because our partners at the AEA are some the best we have ever worked with, and provided solid support and guidance throughout our association... it was also successful due to the fact that our ANN/Aero-TV crews worked their hearts out and took great pride in covering YOUR interests... and finally, it happened because a few smart companies stepped up and helped us shoulder the costs of the extensive time, travel, equipment, personnel, and other heavy expenses inherent in taking on a tough job and doing it RIGHT -- and looked great for doing so. ANN thanks the AEA staff for their professionalism and partnership and also thanks Aspen Avionics, Avidyne Corporation, Bendix-King, Genesys Aerosystems, Gogo Business Aviation, L-3 Avionics Products, Mid-Continent Instruments & Avionics, NavWorx, and The NextGen GA Fund, for their generous support of these very exciting albeit difficult productions.
