This film provides an interesting and quite complete snapshot of the life of cattle ranchers and ranchhands during the 1950s. By that time, some aspects of ranching had been modernized, but others were virtually unchanged from the 19th-century days of the open range. A full year's worth of cowboy activities are shown, including branding, driving cattle to summer pastures, winter feeding in raging blizzards, rodeos, haying, and driving the cattle to market. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A cowboy is an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks. The historic American cowboy of the late 19th century arose from the vaquero traditions of northern Mexico and became a figure of special significance and legend. A subtype, called a wrangler, specifically tends the horses used to work cattle. In addition to ranch work, some cowboys work for or participate in rodeos. Cowgirls, first defined as such in the late 19th century, had a less-well documented historical role, but in the modern world have established the ability to work at virtually identical tasks and obtained considerable respect for their achievements. There are also cattle handlers in many other parts of the world, particularly South America and Australia, who perform work similar to the cowboy in their respective nations. The cowboy has deep historic roots tracing back to Spain and the earliest European settlers of the Americas. Over the centuries, differences in terrain, climate and the influence of cattle-handling traditions from multiple cultures created several distinct styles of equipment, clothing and animal handling. As the ever-practical cowboy adapted to the modern world, the cowboy's equipment and techniques also adapted to some degree, though many classic traditions are still preserved today. Cowboys in popular culture: As the frontier ended, the cowboy life came to be highly romanticized. Exhibitions such as those of Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show helped to popularize the image of the cowboy as an idealized representative of the tradition of chivalry. In today's society, there is little understanding of the daily realities of actual agricultural life. Cowboys are more often associated with (mostly fictitious) Indian-fighting than with their actual life of ranch work and cattle-tending. The cowboy is also portrayed as a masculine ideal. Actors such as John Wayne are thought of as exemplifying a cowboy ideal, even though western movies seldom bear much resemblance to real cowboy life. Arguably, the modern rodeo competitor is much closer to being an actual cowboy, as many were actually raised on ranches and around livestock, and the rest have needed to learn livestock-handling skills on the job. However, in the United States and the Canadian West, as well as Australia, guest ranches offer people the opportunity to ride horses and get a taste of the western life—albeit in far greater comfort. Some ranches also offer vacationers the opportunity to actually perform cowboy tasks by participating in cattle drives or accompanying wagon trains. This type of vacation was popularized by the 1991 movie City Slickers, starring Billy Crystal. American Cowboy | Traditional American Way of Life | Documentary | 1950 TBFA_0003

Words and phrases are said differently than how they are read. One viewer noticed that words with the letter “T” in the middle were pronounced with a less harsh, “D” sound. It may be difficult to understand certain words when they aren’t pronounced exactly as you read them so it’s important to know the different sounds that words make when pronounced by different speakers. Words such as: Water Butter Tomato Matter The “T” sound is usually softened and it sounds like a “D”. America, GET OUT OF THE WAY!

07:31
Papua-New Guinea delegate at the climate talks in Bali tells the USA where to go. Way to go, man! Of course he is right, because for two weeks the USA played its usual genocidal spoiling game, by playing hard ball with the lives of billions of Earth's inhabitants: it refused to sign on to mandatory emission reduction targets. When the Nazis pumped Zyklon-B into a closed space to gas Jews, they called it genocide. When American-style corporatism kills six billion people more slowly with CO2, what name can we give such a crime against humanity?

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. How we use language - our accent, expressions, and the structure of our sentences - changes from region to region. Vera Regan explains why we should listen to these differences, and why language can act as a cultural barometer. Sociolinguist Vera Regan is a researcher at University College Dublin, and her work explores the relationship between our cultural landscape and our changing language. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. Eagle Claw Cufflinks with Tiger's Eye Balls - https://gentl.mn/2KeMS6t Trad is an adaptation of the North Eastern American style which is not as popular as prep or Ivy style. Arguably, trad is the most classic and refined version of this northern American style. It's, in fact, a somewhat contemporary take on the fashions of the roaring 20s. Its core is similar to Ivy style, trad was born as a form of rebellion against the fathers and the parents. It was a way for students to develop their own identity using clothes that were somewhat related to what their fathers would have deemed appropriate, at the same time, adding their own touch to it. Trad was way for young men to distinguish themselves from polo and boat shoes wearing young men as well as very stodgy old Saxon wearers. So what exactly is the difference between prep, Ivy, and trad style? Think about it this way, prep is the most casual style. Ivy is a notch up, and trad is even less casual and more formal than Ivy style. The entire purpose of trad is to maintain the conservative approach to clothing while adding a personal note without going overboard and looking like you're wearing a costume. So how would you dress in a trad style way? Well, first of all, think of it as using a very traditional approach with a bit of nonchalance. You just add more casual elements that would traditionally not work with your outfits, for example, that means you invest in a blue navy blazer or two in several three-piece or two-piece suits, as well as cardigans and sweater vests. However, instead of going with plain solid worsted colors you would mix it up and wear maybe a herringbone suit in brown or maybe a houndstooth flannel suit, or you would go with a faint windowpane on your navy suit, instead of going plain solid. So to mix it up, you would skip the matching vest with your suit and instead, opt for maybe a burgundy flannel vest or a doeskin vest or a moleskin vest or you could go with a blue tweed vest. In terms of neckwear, you can still wear neckties and bow ties, however, you can maybe go with slightly different knots. In terms of tie fabrics, madder silk ties were very popular and so were repp striped ties. The goal is to always express yourself in a sophisticated way that is different enough to break with the monotony of classic suits all the while not allowing people to pinpoint how your outfit is different. Obviously today, dress codes have relaxed a lot more and so it's okay for trads to wear slightly more colorful pocket squares or just things that are a little bit louder that might have not been considered 100% trad appropriate 50 years ago. I think trad is a wonderful concept because it allows people to wear suits that are not business suits and therefore they look more casual but they're still quite stylish. Of course the world, in general, has become more casual and so prep style and Ivy style are more popular today but if you want to mix things up and go a little bit more formal, trad might be the perfect way to do so. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? How to Fall Asleep in 2 Minutes According to the US Navy

07:25
Do you have trouble falling asleep? Do you toss and turn at night? A good night’s sleep is necessary for optimal health. So if you’re one of the millions of people in the world who suffers from a sleep disorder or you want to fall asleep faster, watch this video to learn a trick straight from the US military. The amount of sleep a person needs depends greatly on their age. Knowing how much you should be sleeping can help you figure out if your sleep routine works or if it needs tweaking. Babies normally sleep for most of the day (around 16 hours), teenagers require about 9 hours a day, and adults require 7 to 8 hours a day. TIMESTAMPS: What insomnia can lead to 1:44 Step 1 2:42 Step 2 3:07 Step 3 3:34 Step 4 3:43 Step 5 4:00 Other tips to fall asleep quickly 6:13 #soundsleep #insomnia #weightgain Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - According to the American Sleep Association, 50–70 million US adults suffer from sleep disorders. It’s estimated that around 20% of people worldwide suffer from sleep deprivation. - Insomnia can be common if people are under a great amount of stress, experiencing big life changes, or having emotional difficulties. - If you suffer from insomnia, a lack of sleep can cause hormonal imbalances, which lead to weight gain, slower reaction times, irritability, memory problems, depression, and headaches. - Lie face up in bed. Relax your facial muscles, including your tongue, jaw, and the muscles around your eyes. If you realize you have a frown, really focus on releasing the area in the center of your forehead. - Drop your shoulders as low as possible. This will also help you stretch and release the tension in your neck. Then relax your upper and lower arm on one side, and then try it with the other arm. - Breathe out, and relax your chest. Feel your lungs fill up with air. - Relax your legs. Release the tension from your thighs first, and then let the relaxation travel down to your calves. Finally, focus on your feet and ankles. - Now that the muscles in your body are relaxed, it’s time to clear your mind completely. - When the pilots were trained in this exercise, they performed it sitting down on a chair. In those exercises, they put their feet flat on the floor, placed their hands on their laps, and let them go limp. Table Manners - Ultimate How-To Guide To Proper Dining Etiquette For Adults & Children

Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks Light Brown and Blue - https://gentl.mn/2F6TeRR #tablemanners #diningetiquette #notsponsored Table manners are actually something your parents taught you but are actually far more important as an adult. First of all, your table manners speak volumes about your refinement and it's often interpreted as a sign of character. It's not at all about being snobby or showing off but much rather show respect, your host and your dining partners will greatly appreciate your manners. It's very important to keep in mind, proper table manners aways help you and never hurt you. The good thing is they can be learned and its never too late to do so. So what are table manners? I suggest you turn your cell phone ringer off when you enter someone else's home and put your phone in your pocket when you're with the guests. Don't leave your phone on the table because you are much more likely to pick it up and look at it which is impolite In the presence of other people. If the table is all set, you don't just walk in and sit down. Wait to be seated or wait for the queue of the host, or if they sit, you can sit as well. Ideally, want to sit up straight but comfortably, don't slouch, or cross your arms, or sit as you would on your couch while watching a football game. Don't expect to sit next to your partner and follow the lead of the hosts. Traditionally, couples were always mixed up to sit with different people. If there's a napkin on the plate or next to a plate, put it on your lap right away. If the host or hostess wants to say grace, accept the gesture for what it is and move along. Two, let's take a look at the place setting. In the Western world, an informal place will always have at least a plate, a knife, and a fork. If dessert will be served, you'll find either a little fork or a spoon on the top side of the plate. If soup is served or anything else that requires a spoon, you will also have a spoon. On the top right of the plate, you'll likely find a water glass which is always filled and a wine glass which is empty, to begin with. Sometimes you also find beer glasses; if you prefer that, if that's what's served with a meal. If you see little plate with an extra knife on a top left to your plate, that's for bread and butter. When you're done with the course, you place the fork and a knife at a four to five o'clock angle that means you're done. Three, now it's time to serve the food. Most informal dinners are family-style meaning there are bowls or platters where food is served from. For formal dinners, courses are usually plated but we talk about the intricacies of that in our formal dining etiquette video here. With bowls and anything at the table, the cardinal rule is, don't reach over anybody else and don't touch them. To start, pass the bowl around the table from the left to the right when you get the bowl you hold it and you serve yourself then you pass it on to your neighbor on the right. Always use the serving utensils and never your silverware that's on your place setting. Of course, if the host or hostess has a different idea, go with what they do. Four, finally it's time to eat. You should only start eating when everyone else has been served and a host or hostess starts to take their fork and take the lead. It is very impolite and sometimes even rude to just dig into your plate of food while the others are still empty-handed. #tablemanners #diningetiquette #notsponsored --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? How to Make Trifle - The Victorian Way

05:25
Mrs Crocombe is making one of Lord Braybrooke's favourite desserts - trifle. It's the perfect treat to follow any meal. INGREDIENTS 100g leftover sponge cake 100g ratafia biscuits or macaroons 50 ml brandy 125ml port or sherry 1 teacup of jam 100g crystallized fruit, such as ginger and cherries 500ml custard (you need to add either 2x sheets of gelatine or 2 tbsp of cornflour to it when you are making it so that it will set) 100g ground almonds 1 ¼ pints whipping cream 1tbsp caster sugar For the decoration: Slivered blanched almonds Small cubes of crystallised fruit Anything else you like (flowers are always nice - but be careful to choose edible varieties as some varieties of flowers can be dangerous to eat) METHOD Cut your sponge cake into slices. This recipe is excellent for using up leftover sponge cake. You may prefer to use a fatless sponge as it is slightly lighter. Layer these into a deep glass dish, and pour over the brandy. Spread your jam on top – you can use whatever flavor you like. Chop your fruit and add this in an even layer on top. Now add your macaroons or ratifia biscuits, and over this pour your port or sherry. Leave this to soak for 10-15 minutes. If you haven’t any custard to hand, this is the time to make it. The custard needs to set, so if it’s not got gelatin in, reheat and add 2 sheets (soaked first), or whisk up cornflour in a little milk, and add it to the hot custard. Add your ground almonds and allow to cool to room temperature then spread over your trifle evenly. Whip the cream into soft peaks for piping and add some sugar. Pipe this onto your custard, building up layers of cream. Decorate your trifle using almonds, crystallised fruit and edible flowers.
