All female dance group during a live performance at Rio de Janeiro. Here we see a group of Afro Brazilians during dance rehearsals at the Rio Sambadrome. We are able to see both solo dance routines, as well the group choreography in HD video quality. Dancers are all dressed up in costumes and coordinated make-up too. Apart from the great group dancing, another important information, is that these presentations are TOTALLY free! if you are going to Rio on budget, you can join the rehearsals for free at Rio´s Sambadrome. You can take the subway station and stop at the "Central" or the "Estacio" Station. The official technical rehearsals start in December and go up three weeks before the official Rio Carnival parades. In 2014, there were 19 free technical rehearsals. They generally Saturday and Sunday, and start at 8:30 PM and finish at midnight. So next time in Rio, try one of the official samba rehearsals, since they are really fun and free!

Shaykh Abdul Hameed Ahmad, imam of the Salvador Mosque in Bahia, Brazil, speaks about the social problem of black Brazilian Muslim women not being able to find Muslim husbands. Brazil has a growing Muslim population, in which the majority of the Muslims in Brazil are of Arab descent. Unfortunately a number of Afro-Brazilian Muslim women are unable to marry Arab Muslim men due to cultural stigma towards black women, despite Islam permitting marriage between Muslims irrespective of their colour or ethnicity. Interview conducted by Habeeb Akande, author of Illuminating the Blackness: Blacks and African Muslims in Brazil.

My Albino Children: Black Brazilian Family Have Three White-Skinned Children SUBSCRIBE: We upload a new incredible video every weekday. Subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don't miss out: http://bit.ly/Oc61Hj When Rosamere Fernanda de Andrade first held her newborn baby she assumed there had been a mix up. Rosamere and ex-husband, Joao, are both black - but their daughter, Ruth, had white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. But it was no mistake - Ruth, suffers from a rare generic condition called albinism and has no skin pigment. Since then Rosamere, 31, has had two more albino children as well as three black kids. So stark is the difference between Rosamere and three of her children, she is often mistaken for their nanny. The condition is characterised by the absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes - which leaves sufferers exposed to a range of afflictions. The youngsters are so sensitive to sunlight that they need factor 100 sun block every two hours - and only allowed to play outdoors at night. The Andrade family's story appears in Body Bizarre on Thursday November 6, 9pm on TLC Videographer: Laurentiu Garofeanu Producer: Jack McKay Editor: Joshua Douglas / Ian Phillips For more compelling footage of the amazing side of life: FACEBOOK: Like Barcroft TV - https://www.Facebook.com/BarcroftTV TWITTER: Follow @Barcroft_TV - https://www.Twitter.com/Barcroft_TV WEBSITE: For licensing & business enquiries, visit the Barcroft Media site - https://www.Barcroftmedia.com

Dozens of Black Youtubers in Brazil banded together to create videos explaining why Racism is not a joke - #racismonãoépiada. I think this is a turning point in the influence of black youtubers and what we call in the United States - Black Media. Even if you don’t speak Portuguese, please start following the Black Youtubers below. 9 Reasons to Date a Brazilian Woman Number 9: More Female Authors. In the last 20 years, female scientists in Brazil have published 11 percent more articles - a significant mark in any researcher's career. Today, women account for nearly half (49 percent) of all scientific publications. According to the study Gender In The Global Research Landscape, Brazil ties with Portugal for the most female authors. Other countries with high gender equality in the field are Denmark, France, the U.K., and Australia, with women publishing over 40 percent of scientific articles in their respective countries. Number 8: They Exercise a Lot. Brazilian women not just take care of their faces, they also take care of their body. Weight-training and kickback machines, which work the glutes, are some of the most popular workouts Brazilian women use to have a toned and curvy body. “Brazilian women aim to be healthy and strong rather than just skinny,” says Ruth Ferguson, a Brazilian bikini designer. Number 7: They Are Ambitious. Like many other traditional societies, Brazilian culture has long laid down specific roles and duties for each gender. Women were mostly expected to keep the house and raise children while men were the breadwinners in the family. But with changing times and economic compulsions, women have come to acquire a greater role in decision-making. While initially they were compelled by male unemployment and things like domestic abuse, to work out of home, now more and more Brazilian women are going to college and preparing for skilled professions. Number 6: They have Strong Family Ties. Brazilian society is firmly based on the sense of family. Despite rising divorce rates and single-parents, family members continue to be close to each other. Families - even extended ones - are often the first line of support when things go wrong. To seal the deal with your Brazilian girlfriend, you may not only have to impress her Mom and Dad but also varied uncles, aunts and grandparents. Likewise, you may also have to keep in mind sundry other siblings and cousins when bearing gifts for the family. Number 5: They Are Friendly. Brazilian women are friendly and outgoing in nature. If a girl happens to spot you in a bar or café and you meet her standards, she will not hesitate to come up and ask you for your phone number or invite you to buy a drink for her. They are quite easy to strike up a conversation with and before long you may even find yourself sharing a joke or a song with one of them. Their openness to making friends has given them a reputation for being 'loose' and ready to jump in bed with anyone. But this is not true. Number 4: Comfortable with Physical Contact. If you belong to a culture where people remain in their personal spaces when interacting, you may have a tough time understanding why your Brazilian female friend or date is of the touchy-feely type. People in Brazil stand quite close to one another when talking or hanging out. They also take time to greet and say good-bye to each person present. Men and women usually kiss twice - once on each cheek - upon meeting someone for the first time, even if they are married. When dating a Brazilian woman, don't get perturbed if she is leaning slightly towards you while talking. Number 3: They Have the Curves. Brazilian women have the called “guitar-shaped body”, instead of the skinny body type. They got nice curves in the waist, legs, and, of course, on the butt! Their body are praised internationally by songs, TV shows, books, and on the streets. Whenever a Brazilian woman is crossing a street, all the men feel hypnotized by her body. Even the skinny Brazilian women will have a nice booty in comparison with women from other nationalities. Number 2: They Are Beautiful. Brazil is known as land of beauties. The Brazilian women are famous for their sporty looks and attractive bodies. Without a doubt, they are some of the most gorgeous in the world. The best part is that you can find gorgeous blonde as well as black women in the same country. And what's more they are not conscious or embarrassed about the fact. Here women are confident about their looks and bodies and if you like what you see, and they will welcome your appreciation as well. Number 1: They Are Supermodels. Combining a beautiful face with a toned body, a luscious booty, and a confident personality, the result is a country where many supermodels are born and raised. Example of these supermodels are Adriana Lima, Izabel Goulart, Alessandra Ambrosio, Isabeli Fontana, and Lais Ribeiro. In terms of beauty pageants, Brazil women have represented their country well. In 1963, Maria Vargas was crowned Miss Universe, and Martha Vasconcelos won this coveted title in 1968. In addition, Brazil won one Miss World title, one Miss International, and two Miss Earth crowns.

Meet the New 2015 Brazil Carnival Queen: https://www.youtube.com/edit?video_id=YZr2ryBLSEY Here we see the warm up of the samba dancers wing ( passistas ) from Estacio de Sa Samba School. Sometimes these samba "warm up" for the samba dancers can last for more than 45 minutes or more. Some aerobics specialists said that in a samba practice, 800 calories can be spent in one hour of real samba dancing. That is a lot! Below, we define exactly what is the defintion for passista: Ok, we all know Brazil is famous for its Carnival. But famous too, for its talented Carnival samba dancers, who have a specific name in Portuguese: the "passistas". But does everybody know who are these beautiful girls and women of all ages who devote their lives to the culture of carnival and samba dancing? Do you know where they come from, where they are born and raised? Do you know their specific functions within a samba-school? And where they end up? Do you know anything about their costumes? And what do they do at the Brazilian samba schools after their period of glory is over. This article will try to explain in basic terms who after all who are Brazilian Carnival Samba dancers: The "Passistas" who enchant samba and dance lovers all over the world. Passistas typical start dancing at their community, or the samba school they are attached to, at very early ages. Of course, then they are not called "passistas", just little girls dancing and having fun, like any place on the planet. But they already try to imitate the "big girls" as they call them, and specially, the "samba queens". Some of these girls of 6-8 years old, then move up a step. At the samba-schools, older "passistas" provide "formal" classes to these girls, as part of a series of social activities that some of the larger samba-schools in Rio provide. Later, according to their interest, they are invited to participate at a "childrens´wing" either at the samba-schools parade, like Beija-Flor, Mangueira, Imperatriz, Unidos da Tijuca, which have wing just for kids ( with a special permit & presence by their parents ) or they present themselves at the infant parade, which happen Friday, the real first day of Carnival in Rio. Passistas today are very different then they were in the past: Both at the samba-school, but also out of the samba-school. It is a consensus that very few passistas are able to support themselves just with samba. Most of the samba-schools have what it´s called "Grupo Show", which are Samba Dance Group shows and spectacles offered by the samba-schools to corporate events, parties, weddings, etc.. Only the top samba dancers make it to this elite team, even within the samba-school. But even though, being part of a samba group show, many are still unable to live exclusively by the samba dance, and have to establish themselves in professions as executive assistants, saleswomen, aestheticians, etc. Many too, because of this unfortunate scenario, "flee" to other countries of the world and establish themselves there because of financial opportunities. So, it has been proven passistas still can´t live just upon their passion, which is sad. As said before, most of them live / raised next to the samba-school they are closest to, in terms of location. The great majority until today´s time in Brazil come from middle class social stata. Many see the dance, apart from the passion and love for the carnival, a chance to move up the social status and be recognized as true artists, as we really think they are. We kind of see this movement, but unfortunately only during the carnival period. Later, most of them lead their regular lives and dance for pure pleasure, health and love for the carnival culture, without much glamour. Very few of them "make it to the top" of the social strata, unfortunately, and seen as true artists. We really think this must change, and society should recognize them and VALUE them. Can the racial features of a child impact the way a parent loves and disciplines him or her? How does racial stigma play out in an Afro-Brazilian family, where one child can be born with a darker skin tone than another? Dr. Elizabeth Hordge-Freeman, Assistant Professor of Sociology with a joint appointment in the Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean at The University of South Florida, Tampa, tackles these very questions in her latest book, “The Color of Love: Racial Features, Stigma, and Affective Capital in Black Brazilian Families.” Her book is also under contract with the Federal University of São Carlos for publication in Portuguese. This talk was part of a day-long conference which held on March 4th, 2016. The lab continues its commitment to shine an academic spotlight on the rising global profile of Brazil, the world’s fifth-largest country. The GLOBAL BRAZIL LAB is a Humanities Laboratory aimed to generate new conversations between the humanities, the social sciences, and the sciences by including students in research focused on Brazilian arts, social movements, and natural environment.
