VNC Over SSH - Complete Guide using Windows Client and Linux Server

10:26
Welcome back to P&T! Today I'm going to show you how to use VNC to remote control a Linux Machine from a windows machine using ssh encryption for free! Get ready to pause and reload things because this gets confusing even for me :p It is worth noting that some things I have done in here you might need to do a little differently depending on your version of Linux. Also I had to cut some content that I poorly explained and here it is: you need ssh server installed which is on things like CentOS already but you'll need to install it in Ubuntu using: sudo apt-get install ssh you'll also need a vnc server and client on your client machine that allows loop-back, I recommend tightVNC because it is what I used. To skip messing with any config files you'll need xfce desktop Finally I recommend using the vnc server built in to your particular linux distro unless you just can't get it to work. Let me know if anyone has trouble, we can try to figure it out and make better documentation that the endless Linux forums and videos from 10 years ago!

Install Easysoft Limited Oracle ODBC Driver on Linux

06:16
Installing the Easysoft Limited Oracle ODBC Driver on a non-Window platform We created a video where we do this install and get data back in 52 seconds (http://youtu.be/HDoVDcu5c3c), but we thought it would be worthwhile taking a more leisurely look at how to install our Oracle ODBC Driver on to a non Windows platform (this could be Linux, AIX or Solaris for example). Prerequisits: Activated Easysoft Account (Free) Downlaoded and extracted Oracle ODBC Driver (Free) A non Windows platform to install the Driver on, I'm using Linux Access to Oracle About 5 minutes of spare time to do the install (maximum amount of time needed). So you don't have to watch all the processes and because you'll have some of this set up anyway, I've downloaded the Oracle ODBC Driver onto my Linux box. I've also downloaded the Oracle Instant Client basic and SQL Plus, and these have already been set up. We recommend you simply accept the default locations. If you are installing as a non-root user or you wish to install in a non-default location then I've left a link in the summary below to explain what you need to do. Read : http://www.easysoft.com/support/kb/kb01009.html That will explain what to do if you are installing as a non-root user or you wish to install in a non-default location. During installation we will need your Name, Company Name, Email Address, Tel and Fax number. All these details help us to help you in case of a support call. We hope you can see from this video just how easy these Drivers are to install Easysoft Limited can help you with your data access ... for our full range of ODBC and JDBC Drivers, Bridges and Gateways visit http://www.easysoft.com Be sure to let us know if you have any comments or questions. Until next time, thanks again and we'll see you again soon.

How To Download The RuneScape Client (on Linux)

03:21
In this video, HikariKnight will show you how to install the Runescape client on an Ubuntu Based Linux system which works with launchpad PPA repositories. The terminal commands used in the video are: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:hikariknight/unix-runescape-client sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install unix-runescape-client For instructions on how to install the client on other Linux Distributions, please read the instructions from this forum post: http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/forums.ws?25,26,99,61985129,goto,323#3221 If you do have the dependencies covered then you can also use the Any Linux/Unix install which do not require superuser permissions to install. Open the terminal and paste in: wget $(echo -e "\x68\x74\x74\x70\x3a\x2f\x2f" )dl.dropbox.$(echo -e "\x63\x6f\x6d" )/u/11631899/opensource/Perl/unix-runescape-client.tar.gz && tar -vxzf unix-runescape-client.tar.gz && ~/runescape/install-desktop-icons Then press enter. Q: Why use a native Linux client instead of running the Windows Client through wine? A: Better performance and the native client is built to work good with the Linux system and also contain fixes which will try make the client much more stable on the system. However if you do want to run the Windows client through wine, then MrMonkeySpork have a nice guide on how to do it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEtUlY0BdB8 Q: Why use the client at all, it is a browser game? A: Sadly there are some issues that cannot be fixed with the OpenJDK/icedtea plugin for the web browsers on Linux, and sometimes the Oracle version of java might have its own issues. Currently Java7/OpenJDK7 do not work properly on the web client due to a linking issue from java7 not being compiled properly by OpenJDK-Team and Oracle. The client is able to "bypass" this linking issue by using LD_LIBRARY_PATH to link the java libraries properly, this is just 1 example on an issue we cannot resolve in the browser. Q: Do i need java for the Unix client, if so which java do i need? A: Any java version which meet the Runescape requirements will work, this video shows how to install the client on a Ubuntu machine that do not have java installed and will therefore install openjdk for you in order for the client to work. Q: I want to use a different java than openjdk, and i want to install the client without installing openjdk. Is that possible? A: Yes, replace the command "sudo apt-get install unix-runescape-client" with "sudo apt-get install runescape" this will install only the core files for the client but not install openjdk, just make sure you add the java binary to the "~/.config/runescape/share/settings.conf" file as the preferredjava, examples can be found in the same folder as settings.conf once you have tried to launch the client for the first time. If you need any Linux related tech support on Runescape, please post in the Linux - Community thread on the forums: http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/c=nKYgEDSePVA/forums.ws?25,26,99,61985129,goto,323 Or check out the Known Issues section of the Linux article on the official Runescape wiki: http://services.runescape.com/m=rswiki/en/Linux_Known_Issues

Tutorial: Identity Management with FreeIPA

27:14
Fraser Tweedale https://linux.conf.au/schedule/30130/view_talk FreeIPA is an integrated identity management solution providing centralised user, host and service management, authentication and authorisation in Linux/UNIX networked environments, with a focus on ease of deployment and management. It is built on top of well-known Open Source technologies and standards including 389 Directory Server, MIT Kerberos and Dogtag Certificate System. This hand-on workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to FreeIPA including server deployment and administration, client machine enrolment, and configuring server software to use FreeIPA's centralised identity and policy store. Participants will: - Install a FreeIPA server and replica - Enrol client machines in the domain - Create and administer users - Manage host-based access control (HBAC) policies - Issue X.509 certificates for network services - Configure a web server to use FreeIPA for user authentication and access control There will be a number of elective units which participants can choose, based on their progress and particular use cases: - OTP two-factor authentication - Advanced certificate management: profiles, sub-CAs and user certificates - OpenSSH key management - Federated identity with Ipsilon - User self-service secret management - ...and more! If you are planning to attend the workshop please note that *some preparation is strongly advised*. Preparation steps are outlined at https://github.com/freeipa/freeipa-workshop#preparation. In brief, it amounts to "install Vagrant and VirtualBox, and download the VM image" so that you are ready to ``vagrant up`` at the start of the workshop. The `libvirt' provider is also supported.
