Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PMCC) can be easily evaluated on many scientific calculators but in this video I show you the formula in case this function is not available. The coefficient is given by the letter r and represents the strength of fit of a set of observations on a scatter diagram to a straight line. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PMCC) can be easily evaluated on a Casio fx991-EX ClassWiz calculator as this video demonstrates. The coefficient is given by the letter r and represents the strength of fit of a set of observations on a scatter diagram to a straight line. The line of best fit is also displayed in this video of called the regression line for y on x. The correlation coefficient is a really popular way of summarizing a scatter plot into a single number between -1 and 1. In this video, I'm giving an intuition how the correlation coefficient does this, without going into formulas. If you need to calculate the correlation coefficient for some data, you can find the formula here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearson_product-moment_correlation_coefficient#For_a_sample This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/)

In this video I show you how to do hypothesis testing for zero correlation from a population by taking a sample of observations from the population calculating the product moment correlation coefficient (PMCC) for the sample and comparing it to a critical value found from tables. I look at three scenarios, which involve 1 tail and two tail tests. Go to http://www.examsolutions.net/ for the index, playlists and more maths videos on exam solutions and other maths topics.

This video covers how to calculate the correlation coefficient (Pearson’s r) by hand and how to interpret the results. Here we use the 'definitional formula' for calculating the correlation, as it is the easier of the two methods. It also makes more sense intuitively than the computational approach to calculating the correlation coefficient. Where does the correlation coefficient, r, come from? This video explains how it is calculated and gives a brief example of a hand calculation. There are many other formulas that you can use to calculate r, some are actually easier than this, however, I feel that this formula is the best for understanding where the r value comes from.... You will always use technology to find this value, but it is nice to know where it comes from....
