Ships in storms can be so creepy to look at. Just look at those terrifying monster waves from those incredible videos. Those ships in rough seas sure look creepy. I wouldn't want to be in a ship in storm at sea.

Thousands of shipping containers are lost from cargo vessels each year. Many of these containers eventually sink to the deep seafloor. In 2004, researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) discovered a lost shipping container almost 1,300 meters (4,200 feet) below the surface of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. In the first ever survey of its kind, researchers from MBARI and the Sanctuary recently described how deep-sea animal communities on and around the container differed from those in surrounding areas. The red dots seen in some of the underwater footage are lasers mounted on the remotely operated submersible. The lasers are 29 cm apart and allow the scientists to estimate animal size. From amazing art to a mysterious train, these are 13 of the most bizarre underwater discoveries. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 10. The Cancun Underwater Museum has over 500 underwater sculptures dedicated to the Art of Conservation. The unique attraction offers divers a spectacular view of the statues that can be seen from a glass bottom boat. The museum began its venture in Cancun in 2009 and was completed in 2013. Each figure was made from a PH neutral cement, coral, seaweed and algae. The reason for this is to help benefit and protect coral reefs. Coral reefs can be created from sunken ships that fall to the bottom of the ocean floor. Creating statues are used to help save the ocean by creating a new way to grow coral reefs. 9. MS Zenobia was a Swedish ferry boat that sank on her maiden voyage in 1980 near Larnaca, Cyprus. After passing through the Strait of Gibraltar in route to Athens Greece the captain began to notice problems associated with steering. Once they arrived at Larnaca, the problem occurred again and the computerized pumping system was forcing additional water into the adjacent ballast tanks because of a software error. A few days after the ferry sank and sank in Larnaca Bay. Now it is a favorite dive site for visitors in Cyprus. 8. From land, the swimming whole Angelita looks like an average swimming hole. It is located in the Yucatan in Mexico. Divers have to plunge down to nearly 100 feet underwater to see the river. The “Underwater River,” is a cenote that is just an optical illusion produced by a cloud of hydrogen sulfide intermingling with the surrounding saltwater. 7. USS Oriskany is nicknamed the “Mighty O”. Was one of the small amount of Essex-class aircraft carriers finished only after World War II for the United States Navy. The ship was called for the Battle of Oriskany through the Revolutionary War. The aircraft carrier saw years of combat through both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars before the carrier was purposely sunk to become part of the world's largest artificial coral reef. 6. Several miles off New Jersey’s coast there lie an unanticipated site below the ocean’s surface. Two trains were found in 1985 but no one knows for sure how they got there. The most excepted theory behind how the locomotives got there is that in the 1850's the trains were being transported from the place they were built to their new home which was likely a rail yard. Because the locomotives were small, they could have been pushed overboard into the sea. Now the trains give an interesting spot for divers. 5. Yonaguni Monument is located off the coast of the Ryukyu Islands, in Japan. The monument is connected to a large rock mass in the ocean and believe to have been deposited over 20 million years ago. The main monument is a rectangular formation which measures 490 by 130 ft. The rock formation is made out of moderate to very fine sandstones and mudstones. Scientist who have studied the formation have concluded that some of the features could be manmade. One scientist believes that the site could be fragments of the legendary lost continent of Mu. 4. The SS President Coolidge was an ocean liner from the U.S. The large ship saw its nautical days finish after yielding to mines near the large military base on Espiritu Santo. Now the ship is used as a dive site. Divers can see a mostly intact cruise liner and a military ship. They can swim through numerous parts of the ship. There are guns, cannons, Jeeps, a stunning statue of "The Lady", chandeliers, and a mosaic tile fountain. Coral grows around the ocean liner where the divers can view sea creatures such as reef fish, barracuda, sea turtles and moray eels. 3. The Titanic, was the world’s largest cruise ship sank on her maiden voyage on April in 1912. The ship was touted as “unsinkable” and was supposed to be one of the safest ships ever built in history. She collided with an iceberg, and nearly half of the passengers lost their lives due to the inadequate supply of life boats on board. 2. The Lion City is a real life Atlantis located in China. The city was purposely flooded to make way for a build hydroelectric power station in 1959. Unfortunately, the city was forgotten but remains largely intact for being underwater for fifty years. Currently, there are plans in the works for divers because they like to use the metropolis to use as a tourist site. 1. SS Thistlegorm merchant ship that was sunk during World War II in the Red Sea. She set to sell for Alexandria, Egypt when two bombs were dropped on her from above. The bombs struck the stern of the ship, and it quickly sank. The ship and holds everything from vehicles, motorcycles, ammunition and other weaponry. Now the SS Thistlegorm is used as a recreational diving site.

For 450 years, no one knew where the Swedish warship Mars, named for the Roman god of war, sank in the Baltic Sea. The largest vessel of its time went down in a fierce battle in 1564 with more than 800 people aboard. Its discovery in 2011 yielded an astonishingly well-preserved ship, including the seamen who went down with it. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Breathtaking... Nearly 20 years after first finding the sunken remains of the R.M.S. Titanic, marine explorer Robert Ballard returned in June 2004, helped by the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration to study the ship's rapid deterioration. The Titanic team worked aboard NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown from May 30 through June 9, spending 11 days at the wreck site, mapping the ship and conducting scientific analysis of its deterioration. The team used Institute for Exploration (IFE) remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) Hercules and Argus to conduct a sophisticated documentation of the state of Titanic was not possible in the 1980s. This "look, don't touch" mission used high-definition video and stereoscopic still images to provide an updated assessment of the wreck site at a depth of 3,840 meters (12,600 feet). As the nation's ocean agency, NOAA has a vested interest in the scientific and cultural aspects of the Titanic and in its appropriate treatment and preservation. NOAA's focus is to build a baseline of scientific information from which we can measure the shipwreck's processes and deterioration, and then apply the knowledge we gain to other deepwater shipwrecks and submerged cultural resources. View video footage captured by the Little Hercules remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and camera platform during the April 26, 2012, ROV dive from NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer during the Gulf of Mexico Expedition 2012. The dive was conducted at site 15577 -- a recently mapped but never-before-seen shipwreck in the western Gulf of Mexico. The dive revealed the remnants of a copper-sheathed sailing ship, likely from the early to mid-19th century. While most of the wood has since disintegrated, the oxidized copper sheathing remained along with a variety of artifacts. These included plates, glass bottles, guns, cannons, the ship's stove, navigational instruments, and anchors. This was a spectacular dive that represented a truly remarkable find. Ever since I can remember I have drawn and painted and told people when I grow up I want to be an artist. It started when I was three years old and scribbled throughout Mums, not quite out of reach, phone-pad. Reinforced itself when I completed my BA - Fine Art Painting from the Victorian College of the Arts and continues to this day. I mainly work with oil paint on canvas applied with palette knives and brushes. My second favourite combination of mediums being watercolours and ink on heavy paper. The main themes that I love to paint and explore in my work are being at the beach, walking through the City, being anywhere while it rains, relaxing at a cafe, or watching boats on the water. This is mainly completed using an Impressionistic approach to appearance, I also experiment in a geometric heavy style borrowing from cubism. People play an important part in my work and are as important as the landscape they find themselves in, this allows me to create narrative and direction for the flow through the image. In 2006 I began working full time as an Artist. Every time I paint I try to better understand why I do what I do and choose the things that I paint, and endeavour to connect to my ideas in a stronger way. Many ships filled lost treasure, gold and jewelry were lost at sea. Some of this lost underwater treasure is still there today, so get your diving equipment and start the hunt. SUBSCRIBE for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR At number 16, we start with a shipwreck that didn’t even require scuba gear to reach. In 1533, The Portuguese ship Bom Jesus vanished off the Namibian coast without a trace. In 2008 the remains of the ship were found, buried in the sand, shipwrecked by a violent storm. Nicknamed “The Diamond Shipwreck” because, well, there’s a diamond mine close by, it is the oldest shipwreck ever discovered on the coast of Africa. Inside the Bom Jesus, 22 tons of copper were found, along with cannons, swords, elephant tusks and thousands of gold coins traced to King Joao [pronounced who-AH-oh] the 3rd. At 15, it’s the Hanneke Wrome. Discovered in south Finland near the island of Jussaro by archaeologists diving underwater, the ship had sunk in 1468 with all of its passengers and cargo. Almost 100 feet long, it is still well preserved and the woodwork still shows the craftsmanship of the Hanseatic builders. Along with other trading goods of the time, The Hanneke was also carrying 10,000 gold coins, which are now worth around $60 million. Next, we continue with The Belitung. Discovered off the coast of Indonesia in 1998, it was an arabian ship; the first to be discovered there actually. As a trading ship, it was filled with spice jars, funeral urns, silver boxes, bowls and crystals. It was carrying treasures such as jewels, rubies and sapphires, silver and gold cups, and flasks. Soon after its discovery, the wreck was purchased by the Singaporean Government and is now a tourist attraction. A really long time ago, between 1200 and 900 B.C., while the Babylon Empire was still a thing, a ship sank off the coast of Devon, England. It was discovered in 2010 by amateur archaeologists, along with over 300 artifacts like weapons, jewelry and copper and tin ingots. It’s not exactly filled with riches like the other ships on our list, but it’s a very important discovery nonetheless. It offers a glimpse into a very distant period in our history and proves that big trade networks existed during the Bronze Age between Europe and Britain. A hurricane brought down the S.S. Central American in 1857, at number 12 on our list, along with its cargo of 15 tons of gold. The shipwreck and the lost gold led to the “Panic of 1857”, the first worldwide economic crisis, that started in the US impacted by the loss of the ship. It was discovered in 1987 and 39 insurance companies made claims to the gold and other artifacts within. When the ship sank, the same insurance companies were forced to pay damages and were now trying to get their money back. After long battles in court, the team that discovered the gold was awarded 92 percent of the treasure. Different pieces of it went up for auction, with one record-breaking sale of one gold bar for $8 million. Next, we continue with a shipwreck of the coast of Greece. Discovered in the year 1900, it was the world's first major underwater archaeological expedition, with scientists from all over the world following it closely. The recovery process took over 70 years, with the last expedition being in 1976. The shipwreck contained the famous Antikythera mechanism, believed to be the world's oldest analog computer. Because of this famous artifact, many people tend to ignore the rest of the treasure, which includes coins and jewelry, glassware, pottery, statues and even couches and beds. The entire collection of artifacts is on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Greece. At number 10 we have The S.S. Republic. Discovered off the coast of Georgia, by Odyssey, a deep sea salvage and exploration company, the ship had been submerged for more than 200 years. Believed to have sunk during a hurricane in 1865, it went down with over 50,000 US silver and gold coins and nearly 14,000 other artifacts, that include thousands of glasses, bottles, and stoneware containers. Shortly after its discovery a lawsuit was filed laying claim to the wreck. A federal judge ruled in favor of Odyssey, and in 2004 the company was legally awarded ownership of the found wreckage. The San Jose was a Spanish galleon destroyed by the British around 300 years ago. Everyone onboard was killed and the ship sank near the coast of Colombia. The ship's cargo includes gems, jewelry, gold and silver, all estimated to be worth $1 billion. Under over 1000 feet of water, deep in the ports of Cartagena, its exact location is not disclosed by the Colombian government, to keep it safe from looters and treasure hunters. A couple of divers were exploring the harbor of Caesarea National Park in Israel when they found a gold coin. It was the first of many, as they would later discover, when the Israel Antiquities Authority returned with a whole team and recovered more than 2000 gold coins
