But one of the richest men in the world has made his fortune through the most traditional business you can think about - selling clothes. In fact, in the summer of 2017, the shares of his company soared and for a couple of hours and he held the title of the richest man in the world. But Gates claimed back his position later on the same day. Without any formal education except for the first few years in school, he has built the largest clothing company in the entire world. It all started in Spain. Back then child labor was normal. So Amancio left school at the age of 13 to start working as a delivery boy in a local shirtmaker shop. Where he learned to make clothes by hand. He loved his job and started excelling at it, so much that by the time he was 24, he was appointed as a manager. Not bad for the 1960s, right? Ortega realized that only the wealthy residents could afford their clothes so he started working on his own designs that are more affordable. He started producing pretty similar designs but at a much lower cost targeting the rest of the residents. His strategy work out and he successfully sold all of his designs and used the earnings to open his first factory in 1963 Finally, in 1975, he decided to establish his own brand and named Zara. Zara’s strategy was absolutely simple, sell quality products for a reasonable price so that everyone could afford them. This strategy seems so obvious, why others didn't use it. When Ortega was working in that shirtmaker store. He realized that how the cost of the garments significantly increase when they move from designers to factories to stores. He learned the importance of delivering products directly to consumers without third-party distributors. So Zara started doing everything by itself. This reducing the cost But Ortego’s ambitions didn't stop there, it was time to go international. He established his first store outside Spanish borders in Portugal, in 1988. And a year later In New York. And since then the company has been unstoppable. Ortega realized he can't target all the segments of the market through Zara. So he acquired many different brands such as Pull&Bear, Bershka, Massimo Dutti and so on. And formed them all under a holding company - Inditex. But Zara is the biggest of them, it accounts for over 60% of total sales. Unlike other brands, Zara didn't waste money on advertisements. It knew that as long as there are quality clothes for affordable prices, people are going to buy them, so they kept opening new stores instead. By the year 2000, Zara had stores all around North America and Europe. So it was time to invade Asia and the rest of the world. Inditex has over 7000 stores now. What also sets them apart is that, since everything is done in-house. Zara can design a product and get them into stores in less 2 weeks compare to 6 month which is industry average. Ortega followed just in time production strategy. That means they made their supply chain so effective that they could supply their stores in less than 48 hours. Which means, they don't need to order more than they need and if something is selling too good. They know that they can have it back on the shelves in 48 hours. That provided Zara with absolutely unique advantage. This incredible success story started with a 13-year-old kid who simply had a dream and didn't have any formal education. It seems like nothing is impossible as long as you are patient, dedicated and hard working. But in today’s world with the rise of the internet, the first thing you have to do when you start a project is to register your domain. How Zara Took Over The Industry Using Fast Fashion

04:02
Today, we’re going to look at the history of Zara, its parent company Inditex, and the fashion industry in general, to see how it became possible to create such a high churn rate in the fashion industry. An average American will throw away 77 pounds of clothing every year. And that’s true across the majority of the western world. That is two suitcases of clothes, just dumped. Zara’s first store opened in 1975, in a city called A Coruna in northern Spain. Owners Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera had wanted to name it after a favorite Greek film called Zorba the Greek, but a bar on their street had already beat them to the punch, so they settled for Zara, since they had already had the letters made for the sign. Inditex was set up in 1985 as holding company for Zara and the manufacturing plants. They went on to set up and take-over many other high-street brands that follow Zara’s format; such as Pull and Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius. They now have over 6000 stores globally. Zara’s early business model was to create similar copies to high end lines but at an affordable price. As they expanded through Spain, Ortega pushed the idea of instant fashion, where Zara could react incredibly quickly to new trends so they could put new lines on the shelves in a fraction of the normal time. -----------------Support the channel: Support this channel: https://www.patreon.com/alexberman SUBSCRIBE for more videos like this: http://youtube.com/alxberman?sub_confirmation=1 Check out our Digital Agency Marketing Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/hr/podcast/digital-agency-marketing-1/id1200614219?mt=2&ls=1 Need lead generation or marketing support for your agency? Zara (retailer)

13:48
Zara (Spanish: [ˈθaɾa]) is a Spanish clothing and accessories retailer based in Arteixo, Galicia, and founded in 1975 by Amancio Ortega and Rosalía Mera. It is the flagship chain store of the Inditex group, The world's largest apparel retailer, the fashion group also owns brands such as Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear, Uterqüe, Stradivarius and Bershka. It is claimed that Zara needs just two weeks to develop a new product and get it to stores, compared to the six-month industry average, and launches around 10,000 new designs each year. Zara has resisted the industry-wide trend towards transferring fast fashion production to low-cost countries. Perhaps its most unusual strategy was its policy of zero advertising; the company preferred to invest a percentage of revenues in opening new stores instead. This has increased the idea of Zara as a "fashion imitator" company and low cost products. Lack of advertisement is also in contrast to direct competitors such as Uniqlo and United Colors of Benetton. This video is targeted to blind users. Zara Case: Chapter 1

02:27
https://fashionbuyingmerchandising.com/2017/03/28/zara-case-study/ A customer-funded organization Inditex has funded its fast growth largely on its client's cash. How is that possible? In accounting, this is referred to as “negative working capital”. Inditex delays payment to its vendors in a way that, by the time they pay the bill, the goods have already been sold in the stores. This means that Inditex has very little money “stuck” as goods and has a healthy cash flow to finance its expansion. The scarcity model Fast-fashion is based on newness—but every style is retailed in limited supply. The average product sells out in under two months. Zara´s sales on full price account for 85%, while the industry average is between 60% to 70%. The store’s elevated layout and visual merchandising inspire a sense of exclusivity. Zara has educated its clients to know that, if they don’t buy what they like today, it will be gone tomorrow. This motivates Zara’s clients to come back more often. In a study, shoppers visited the average store once every 3 months, but Zara’s customers came back 17 times a year. High traffic in the stores makes advertising unnecessary. Why aren’t others copying the model? First, Innovation in the business model is not directly visible to competitors. Copying a business model is much harder than imitating product design. Business model innovations are in the brand’s DNA. It can be hard for any business to change who they are.

Zara and Tommy Hilfiger stores at Select CityWalk: Indian retail story

01:10
Zara is a Spanish clothing and accessories retailer based in Arteixo, Galicia, and founded in 1975 by Amancio Ortega and Rosalía Mera. It is the flagship chain store of the Inditex group; the fashion group also owns brands such as Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear, Uterqüe, Stradivarius and Bershka. It is claimed that Zara needs just two weeks to develop a new product and get it to stores, compared to the six-month industry average, and launches around 10,000 new designs each year. Zara has resisted the industry-wide trend towards transferring fast fashion production to low-cost countries. Perhaps it's most unusual strategy was its policy of zero advertising; the company preferred to invest a percentage of revenues in opening new stores instead. This has increased the idea of Zara as a "fashion imitator" company and low cost products. Lack of advertisement is also in contrast to direct competitors such as Uniqlo and United Colors of Benetton. Zara was described by Louis Vuitton Fashion Director Daniel Piette as "possibly the most innovative and devastating retailer in the world." Zara has also been described as a "Spanish success story" by CNN. As of 2007, Zara stores have men's clothing and women's clothing, each of these subdivided in Lower Garment, Upper Garment, Shoes, Cosmetics and Complements, as well as children's clothing (Zara Kids). Currently their sizing on women's clothing goes to a US size 12 or a UK size 14 or extra large. Tommy Hilfiger, under the leadership of founder Tommy Hilfiger and Chief Executive Officer Fred Gehring is a brand distributed in over 90 countries and is one of the worlds leading designer lifestyle brands. Tommy Hilfiger's "classic American cool" lifestyle delivers "preppy with a twist" designs that appeal to a diverse range of consumers globally, as does its accessible, premium position. Tommy Hilfiger offers a wide range of high quality apparel, accessories and lifestyle products and the brand enjoys strong global brand awareness. Tommy Hilfiger sells products under two principal brands called Tommy Hilfiger- which is targeted at the 25 to 45 year old consumer and Hilfiger Denim- which is targeted at the 20 to 35 year old consumer. Tommy Hilfiger product include sportswear for men, women and children; footwear; athletic apparel ; bodywear; eyewear; sunwear; watches; handbags; men's tailored clothing; men's dress furnishings; accessories, socks, small leather goods; fragrances; home and bedding products; bathroom accessories and luggage. The Hilfiger Denim product line consists of Jeanswear and footwear for men and women; bags; accessories; eyewear and fragrance and is positioned as being more "fashion forward" and casual than the Tommy Hilfiger label. Select Citywalk is a premier shopping mall located in the Saket District Centre, in Saket, New Delhi. The 1,300,000 sq ft retail development is spread over 6 acres and includes a multiplex, serviced apartments, offices and public spaces. The mall was developed by Select Infrastructure, a joint venture between the Select group and the Aarone group. It opened to the public in October 2007. Select Citywalk is Delhi's most exciting Shopping & Entertainment Destination blending in a modern, cutting edge shopping experience with the irresistible charm of a laid back walk through the city square. The mall is enhanced with water bodies, plants, trees & beautiful lighting, giving Visitors and Shoppers a rich & soulful experience, a novel urban space for relaxation & entertainment. Zara Owner Inditex Up on Profit, Sales Increase; More Stores and Online Expansion Planned for 2015

01:49
European stocks were mixed on Wednesday as investors awaited the U.S. Federal Reserve’s policy statement and, closer to home, details of Britain’s 2015 budget on the back of the latest U.K. labor market statistics. In Madrid, Inditex SA was up after Europe’s largest retailer and owner of the Zara clothing chain posted a 5% rise in 2014 net profit and in same-store sales, driven by new store openings and expansion of its online sales platform. In London, Standard Chartered, which rallied on ratings upgrades from Barclays and Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. And in Amsterdam, oil platform leasing firm SBM Offshore rallied after signing a memorandum of understanding with Brazilian authorities investigating a bribery scandal linked to state-owned Petroleo Brasileiro SA, known as Petrobras.
