A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket will launch the Arabsat 6A communications satellite from Kennedy Space Center's historic Launch Pad 39A. Liftoff window begins at 05:35 p.m. EST (22:35 GMT). We love ❤ Space Do you? Courtesy of SpaceX www.spacex.com/ www.spaceofficial.com SPACE & UNIVERSE Network Three Falcon 9 boosters strapped together, the behemoth will lift off from historic Pad 39A here at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The upcoming mission, dubbed Arabsat 6A, will launch a large communications satellite for Saudi Arabian corporation Arabsat. Built by Lockheed Martin, the satellite is an advanced commercial communications satellite, designed to provide internet and communications services to residents of the Middle East, Africa and parts of Europe. If all goes according to plan, the two side boosters will touch down in unison on their designated landing pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, while the central booster will land at sea, on one of the company’s two drone ships. Falcon Heavy is the most powerful rocket flying today, but it has only one spaceflight under its belt so far. The reusable rocket first launched on Feb. 6, 2018, ferrying Elon Musk's cherry-red Tesla Roadster. Fetching a price between $90 million and $150 million per launch, Falcon Heavy has already been certified by the U.S. Air Force to fly national security payloads. ▰ Music Playlist http://bit.ly/2UFqYyy --- Livechat: Special characters, links will be automatically blocked. History's Mysteries - Drake's Secret Voyage (History Channel Documentary)

43:08
Narrated by David Ackroyd Sir Francis Drake (c. 1540 – 28 January 1596) was an English sea captain, privateer, slave trader, naval officer and explorer of the Elizabethan era. Drake carried out the second circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition, from 1577 to 1580, and was the first to complete the voyage as captain while leading the expedition throughout the entire circumnavigation. With his incursion into the Pacific Ocean, he claimed what is now California for the English and inaugurated an era of conflict with the Spanish on the western coast of the Americas, an area that had previously been largely unexplored by western shipping. ~ Summary from Wikipedia
Travel by cruise ship to Panama Canal (HD)

09:07
Travel by cruise ship to Panama Canal , Visit Panama Canal, Panama Canal Tours, Panama Canal Vacation Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube The Panama Canal is a 77.1-kilometre (48 mi) ship canal in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean. The canal cuts across the Isthmus of Panama and is a key conduit for international maritime trade. There are locks at each end to lift ships up to Gatun Lake, an artificial lake created to reduce the amount of excavation work required for the canal, 26 metres (85 ft) above sea level. The current locks are 33.5 metres (110 ft) wide. A third, wider lane of locks is currently under construction and is due to open in 2016. France began work on the canal in 1881, but had to stop because of engineering problems and high mortality due to disease. The United States took over the project in 1904, and took a decade to complete the canal, which was officially opened on August 15, 1914. One of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, the Panama Canal shortcut greatly reduced the time for ships to travel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, enabling them to avoid the lengthy, hazardous Cape Horn route around the southernmost tip of South America via the Drake Passage or Strait of Magellan. The shorter, faster, and safer route to the U.S. West Coast and to nations in and around the Pacific Ocean allowed those places to become more integrated with the world economy. It takes between 20 and 30 hours to traverse the canal. During construction, ownership of the territory that is now the Panama Canal was first Colombian, then French, and then American. The US continued to control the canal and surrounding Panama Canal Zone until the 1977 Torrijos–Carter Treaties provided for handover to Panama. After a period of joint American–Panamanian control, the canal was taken over by the Panamanian government in 1999, and is now managed and operated by the Panama Canal Authority, a Panamanian government agency. Annual traffic has risen from about 1,000 ships in 1914, when the canal opened, to 14,702 vessels in 2008, the latter measuring a total of 309.6 million Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System (PC/UMS) tons. By 2008, more than 815,000 vessels had passed through the canal; the largest ships that can transit the canal today are called Panamax. The American Society of Civil Engineers has named the Panama Canal one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

How did early Sailors navigate the Oceans? | The Curious Engineer

06:21
Do you know how the early sailors navigate the oceans? The technology today makes it real easy to navigate the oceans. But it's very interesting to know how the early sailors managed to navigate without it. There's a lot of history on it. I tried my best to compile some important and interesting parts of it into this video. Trip to Antarctica 2016 (HD)

16:08
Antarctica trip 2016, Antarctica Tourism, Antarctica Travel Guide, Antarctica vacations Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Antarctica is a land of extremes: it is the coldest and driest continent on Earth and has the highest average elevation. As the fifth largest continent in the world, Antartica is also the most Southern, overlying the "South Pole". Scarcely touched by humans, the frozen land boasts breathtaking scenery, broken by only a handful of scientific bases and a "permanent" population of scientists numbering only a few thousand. Visitors to Antarctica generally must brave rough sea crossings aboard ice-strengthened vessels, but those who do are rewarded with amazing scenery and tremendous and unique wildlife. Destinations ============= The primary destinations for those visiting Antarctica will either be a research base (for those working on the frozen continent) or the Antarctic Peninsula or Ross Sea area (for those visiting by ship). Other destinations are reachable only by those blessed with extreme motivation and (most importantly) funding. South Pole — needs no introduction Southern pole of inaccessibility — the furthest place in Antarctica from the Southern Sea (in other words the hardest place to get to in the world), home to an abandoned Soviet station, which although covered by snow, still bears a visible gold Lenin bust sprouting from the snow and facing Moscow (if you can find a way inside the building, then there's a golden visitor book to sign) Mount Erebus — world's southernmost active volcano, on Ross Island right next to ~Mount Terror!~ Anver Island / Anvord Bay — if any part of Antarctica is "touristy," this is it, home to Palmer Station (U.S.), the museum at Port Lockroy, Cuverville Island, and the only two cruise ship stops on the continent: Paradise Bay and Neko Harbor South Shetland Islands — another set of major attractions on the Antarctic Peninsula cruise ship circuit, including: penguins and hot springs at Deception Island, Hannah Point, Half Moon Island, Aitcho Islands, Artigas Base (Uruguay), and the ever friendly Polish researchers at Arctowski Station McMurdo Sound — McMurdo Station (USA) and Scott Base (New Zealand) on the mainland near Ross Island Mawson's Huts — the small encampment of Sir Douglas Mawson's ill-fated Australian Antarctic Expedition, of which he was the sole survivor, at Cape Denison, Commonwealth Bay

STRANGEST Discoveries Made In Mediterranean Sea!

09:19
From the Lost Egyptian Underwater city to a cargo ship that had 200 million dollars worth of cargo HERE ARE THE STRANGEST DISCOVERIES MADE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 6. Abandoned Naval Mines Due to extensive naval battle in some areas across the world, underwater mines were constructed as a sneaky way to sink a ship. But just because these are abandoned and pretty old, that doesn’t mean they’re not still dangerous. The oceans can be a dangerous place out there. The Mediterranean still contains active underwater mines which can go off from fishing boats or basically anything. Many were left from world war II or from the fascists to protect naval harbors. It’s not exactly clear how many naval mines are left over in the mediterranean sea and finding out is a risky business. The italian Navy still continues to remove deadly underwater mines especially in areas near naples.. In anycase, some of these abandoned mines, are still lurking around near Italy and can weigh up to 1000 pounds each. Some even believe that underwater mines might detonate ships from migrants coming from the south and might have been the cause why one with 300 people on board went missing.. So watch out! 5. First Boat Making Tools Thanks to this discovery found on the island of Crete, archaeologists can prove that sea travel took place at least 130,000 years ago. The previous known time people were able to trave l by boat was around 60,000 BC. Stone age tools like these axes were found in ancient shelters that some believe were used to construct some of the first boats used for transportation. They’re very similar to the tools used by our ancient ancestors known as the Homo Erectus. Since the island of Crete has been separated from the mainland of Greece for quite some time now, this leads archaeologists to believe that the only way settlers were able to get here was by some type of boat. How advanced were these boats they had, and what other places were discovered that we might not know about? 4. MS Zenobia A large ferry hit the seas in 1979 and on its very first voyage or maiden voyage, it capsized completely and sank less than a year later off the coast of Cyprus! It seemed as though there was possibly a problem with the steering. 200 million dollars worth of cargo was destroyed and it’s a rather embarrassing disaster for the Swedes despite there being no casualties. However not all is lost from the ship. It’s become a massive scuba diving hotpot, rated for being within the top 10 best scuba diving spots. Swimmers only need to make it down about 138 feet or so to witness the wreck underwater. Many scuba divers are given the chance to explore the mysterious wreckage. This photo here shows part of the seaweed covered propeller which only got to make one good trip. Here we see some trucks that have fallen all the way to the bottom and will never get the chance to hit the streets again. Some unique challenges are presented to even some of the most experienced divers out there, with little entrances into the ship 3 Caesarea Sunken Treasure Over 2600 coins dating back over 1000 years were discovered off the coast of Israel by scuba divers near the port city of caesarea. It’s the largest treasure trove found off of Israels mediterranean coast. The coins were originally minted in Egypt and Northern Africa and belonged to the Fatimid Caliphs Al Hakin and Al Zahir. The total weight of all the gold was roughly 16.6 pounds but historically priceless. No one is exactly sure why such a large amount of coins were discovered all in one place but it’s likely they were from taxes collected by the Egyptian government. Other theories would indicate that the hoard was possibly from a merchant ship that bartered with coastal cities along the mediterranean. It’s now considered to be a national treasure after everything was authenticated. The coins turned out to be in remarkable condition despite being at the bottom of the sea for over 1000 years. 2. Mv Panagiotis The Navagio Beach, also lovingly known as “The Shipwreck Beach” lies in an enchanting pool of Ionian Sea water, and it’s been named by some as “the most beautiful beach in the world”. The wrecked ship that famously lies on it’s shore was a ship suspected of selling contraband cigarettes. It was trying to get past the Greek Navy when it crashed into a rock during bad weather in 1980. It gives it a touch of character, wouldn’t you agree?? It looks sugary sandy from above, but the beach is actually covered in pebbles. It’s the most famous beach in Greece and unfortunately, it can only be accessed by boat. Tourists certainly enjoy coming to this one and expect to see some other beachgoers here. 1...

1948 MERCHANT MARINE FREIGHTER AT SEA SS ANCHOR HITCH VOYAGE TO SOUTH AMERICA 53954

16:31
Made in 1948, this educational film discusses the work of ocean freighters in the era before container ships. The featured vessel is the SS Anchor Hitch, which in addition to a cargo hold had 12 passenger staterooms aboard. The film shows the Anchor Hitch operating in the Pacific, on the way to South America. Many of the activities of the crew are seen including navigation, engine operation, radio contact, etc. At 2:50, the ship's radio antenna and directional radio system is shown being operated by a crew member. At 3:40, radar is shown in operation. At 11:50, a lighthouse is seen guarding the entrance to a harbor. Not much is known about the SS Anchor Hitch but it was apparently built by the United States Maritime Commission and considered a C1-M-AV1 type, designed for short coastal runs. This class including 65 ships designated Alamosa class for Navy "island hopping" in the Pacific. The C1 types were the smallest of the 3 original types designed by the United States Maritime Commission and were intended to be used on routes that did not call for fast ships. 173 were built between 1940 and 1945. Both the C1-A and C1-B were built with either steam geared turbine or diesel motors. We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! See something interesting? Tell people what it is and what they can see by writing something for example: "01:00:12:00 -- President Roosevelt is seen meeting with Winston Churchill at the Quebec Conference." This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k. For more information visit http://www.PeriscopeFilm.com

20 Terrifying Things Found Deep Underwater

13:19
The ocean is a deep, dark, and mysterious place. We might think we know a lot about it, but in fact only about five percent of the ocean's seafloor has been mapped. You won't believe what we actually found in the deep sea! Interested? You can also check out other amazing stories about our world and subscribe to the channel! ► http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Richest ◄ Like Mysterious Rooms You Should Never Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a40nuYaG9Us Or 20 Terrifying Facts About The Deep Web - Why It Isn’t Safe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZM3aRw0Wf8 When you take into consideration that the ocean occupies around 70 percent of the earth's surface, that leaves a huge 65 percent of the world that we're still unsure about. More men have stepped on the surface of the moon than have dived into the depths of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean. But luckily, most of our experiences with the ocean are positive ones. We can swim in the sea, wander across the shore, or sunbathe on the beach and watch the waves lap against the sand. Or, we can take exploratory trips into the water to look for special animals, we can use jet skis and speedboats to make the most of the water's free spirit, or we can simply go for a relaxing paddle. But there's a darker side to the ocean that we try not to think about. The further down into the water you go, the less we know about what to expect down there. With conditions unlike anywhere else on earth, only the toughest creatures can survive. Some of them are harmless, but some of them are dangerous. Scientists have dedicated years of research into discovering this previously-unknown portion of the world but not all of it has been successful. But some of what they have found over the years has forced them to think twice about everything we know. Before you start thinking that these experts are just lazy, you need to take into account just how severely different the pressure and atmosphere is once you're below sea level. Surroundings can be incredibly dangerous so only the bravest venture down into the unknown. Traveling Iran by train | DW Documentary

42:25
Iran is opening its doors to foreigners and a train ride from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea is a great way to get to know the country and its people. The travel restrictions that are now being lifted were in place for decades. Many Iranians are hoping they will now be able to lead a freer life – and we meet many of these hospitable and welcoming people on our journey through the Middle Eastern nation. The country’s most important rail link, the Trans-Iranian Railway, runs for approximately 1400 kilometers from the Persian Gulf via Teheran to the Caspian Sea. The journey starts in Khorramshahr on the Shatt al-Arab, the river border between Iraq and Iran. Traveling past oil fields, the train reaches Shushtar. One of the top sights here is the historic hydraulic system, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After that, the train heads up into the Zagros Mountains. The journey is interrupted by a break for prayer. Breath-taking landscapes move past the train window until we reach the highest point not only of our journey but of the entire rail network: 2,200 meters above sea level between Dorud and Arak. During a brief stop in Qom, travelers can refuel with sohan, a pastry made of wheat germ, flour and sugar. The next section of the track is high-speed and we continue on to Teheran at 160 km/h. The metropolitan area is home to more than 15 million people. The last leg takes us to the north of the country. In the Alborz Mountains, we find out what role the Trans-Iranian Railway played during Stalin’s major offensive against the German army in World War II. Our oriental rail adventure ends in Bandar-e Torkaman on the Caspian Sea. _______ Exciting, powerful and informative – DW Documentary is always close to current affairs and international events. Christopher Columbus: What Really Happened

05:39
Check out my new video about the First Thanksgiving on my new channel, "Uncivil History" here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ociHVDWxDaY&t=2s Subscribe for more videos: http://goo.gl/Z8E50 An educational animation which recounts the four voyages of Columbus. Hope you enjoy! Bibliography at bottom of description AUTHOR'S NOTE: This video is meant to give a non-bias account of the events which unfolded when Columbus and his crew made contact with the people of the Caribbean. Of course, I was not able to fit everything into the video; I had to omit details, such as the fact that the Taino were not the only people that Columbus encountered (there were also the Ciguayo tribe and Carib cannibals). A second particular is that not all fault should lie directly on Columbus' shoulders. His crew of 1,200 for the second journey consisted partly of convicts and landless nobles, the worst type of people with which to build a settlement. Another fact is that Columbus grew up in societies (Genoa, then Portugal) that kept domestic slaves. I have no political agenda for making this video. I am a student of history and I have tried to give an account of Columbus' journeys that is as close as we can possibly get to the truth. I will I admit that I am not a fan of Columbus. I think he was cruel, even for his time. We cannot judge a 15th-century human from a 21st-century perspective; but even for the 15th century, he was an awful arbiter. Sources: Bergreen, Laurence. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. A Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Then 'Crack'

02:53
Donald Walsh is stepping back in time at the National Museum of the United States Navy. DONALD WALSH: "Our job was to maintain and operate the bathyscaphe. The scientists at the Navy lab would decide what kind of research projects we have and what kind of equipment we put on it to make measurements and sampling under the sea." In 1960, Mr. Walsh was a young Navy lieutenant. He co-piloted a free-diving vehicle called the Trieste to the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean. DONALD WALSH: "What better demonstration of the safety of this platform than to go to the deepest place in the ocean and come back and perfectly intact and in working order." Mr. Walsh says the Trieste looks a little like a submarine. DONALD WALSH: "Basically, it is an underwater balloon. You've got two parts to it. You've got the balloon here -- which is this long, cylindrical object -- and that's filled with a lighter-than-water substance, which is aviation gasoline. Oil floats on water, so you get, you get buoyancy or lift. And then, beneath the balloon, like a balloon up in the air, you have a cabin for the fragile humans." There was just enough room for two people: Mr. Walsh and Swiss scientist Jacques Piccard. On January 23rd, 1960, the Trieste began its historic dive. Nine and a half kilometers down, the two men heard something unusual. DONALD WALSH: "It got our attention. But we, we didn't know at the time what it was. We just knew that we're still alive and everything was functioning well. All our instruments, indicators said that the dive was progressing just fine." The sound came from a crack forming in the window. Luckily, it did not leak and the Trieste arrived in one piece at the deepest point of the Mariana Trench. Until recently, no one had returned to that part of the ocean. JAMES CAMERON: "As soon as the sub is back on deck at the end of the dive ... " In March, filmmaker and explorer James Cameron reached the Mariana Trench alone, in a vessel he designed. JAMES CAMERON: "We know very little about the species that live down there. We know very little about the distribution of the biological communities. We don't know how these animals have adapted to living under this unbelievable pressure that exists down there." Mr. Cameron's dive owe much to the dive, a half-century before, by the crew of the Trieste. I'm Shirley Griffith.
