Oracle SQL Tutorial 10 - Whitespace, Case Sensitivity, and Comments

07:48
SELECT "Hello World" FROM DUAL The first thing you should know about writing queries is that this SQL is not whitespace sensitive. That means we can space this out however we wish. The only requirement is that you do not separate keywords out with spaces. They must be as one entity. Another gotcha is that when you are inside of quotes, whitespace becomes very important. That means if inside of a string you put a character and then 10 spaces, every single one of those spaces is going to part of that string: SELECT "Hello World" FROM DUAL The next thing you should notice is the capitalization. When we type SQL, by convention we capitalize all keywords. I personally really like this because you can easily see the difference between keywords and words that we created or use. But obviously we could capitalize the letters in the quotes. Keep in mind that this is a convention, meaning you do not have to follow this. Oracle is also case insensitive in that SELECT and select both do the same thing. Strings, once again, care about casing. Take this, for example: SELECT 'true' FROM DUALWHERE 'Hello' = 'Hello' And compare the results to this: SELECT 'true' FROM DUALWHERE 'Hello' = 'hello' Only the first one outputs the value true. Once we get into creating database objects such as tables with columns, those are not case sensitive either. That means instead of selecting from DUAL, you can select from DuAl Finally, I shall introduce you to comments. Comments allow you to tell the database engine that you want it to ignore a certain part of your code and not execute it. This is helpful if you want to document your code. It is also useful if you want to have multiple SQL statements open in one tab, but don't want to hover over the one you want to execute. You can comment out the ones you are not using and uncomment them when you are done. Using – will comment out the rest of the line, Using /* */ will comment everything between. This can even be used over multiple lines. But now, let's move onto the important stuff… CREATING TABLES!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HELP ME! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Oracle 12c Database New Features - Pluggable Database - Video 1

17:25
Oracle 12c Database New Features - Pluggable Database - Video 1 1. Pluggable Database * Oracle 12c introduces a new feature called 'Pluggable Database'. Here Oracle Metadata and user data are totally separated into two sections. One is Container DB (or CDB) which will hold Oracle Metadata. The other is Pluggable DB (or PDB) which will hold user data. How does a Pluggable Database work? In the regular database, Oracle's metadata and user's application data are integrated. For beginners, Oracle Metadata is the data that is present when you install a new Oracle Database (without any sample schemas). Even though it can be called as an empty database, it still has data provided by Oracle. This data is needed by the database to function. For example, the objects owned by SYS, SYSTEM are mostly metadata. Then user data is entered into that database. They will go under multiple user schemas. Now the database is being used by the users. Now a situation arises so that we need to create another database on the same server. Why? Let us say that you need to provide data to two clients. And you don't want one client to other's data. And your data is contained in an extensive set of application schemas. In this case, making a copy of those applications schemas into a different set of names and making them reside in the same database is very difficult. So, you provide two separate databases. This also ensures that there is no security violation. So, we install another new database, which comes with Oracle Metadata. Then we load the user data. In this method, which is currently being used (Year 2013), there will be a need for more memory for both the database instances. There will be two SGAs, two sets of smon, pmon and other background processes running. Then if we need to copy one database to another, we need to rely on extensive procedures which includes exporting the data from the source database first, then removing the data at the target and then finally loading the data in there. After that, we need to take care of the user security and object privileges etc. So, if you want to provide data for multiple tenants, that is multiple clients, then with the current set of features (till Oracle 11g), we have to create multiple databases. That is, one database for one client. In otherwords, there is no multi-tenancy. Multi-Tenancy is becoming an important requirement in cloud infrastructure, these days. You would like to have the ability of providing data to multiple clients from the same database system with full confidence in security. This can be achieved in Pluggable Database. In a Pluggable Database, Oracle basically separates its metadata entirely from the user data. Metadata is stored in a section called Container DB. Then the user data are stored in Pluggable DBs. It also stores user metadata in the Pluggable DB. By the way, what is user metadata? For example, earlier, the list of user accounts that exist in a database is tightly inegrated with Oracle Metadata. Now, with the separation of Container DB and Pluggable DB, the user accounts must exist in the Pluggable DB. So, the Pluggable DB not only contains user data, but also some user metadata. So, what are the benefits? * Multi-Tenancy - We can bring in two Pluggable DBs under one Container DB. Both will be totally segregated, but yet controlled by one instance. This is an important feature for SaaS (Software as a Service) platforms, Cloud, On-Demand and Vendor Managed Application solutions. * Easy cloning/copying. Now the cloning and copying the databases across servers would be much easier. Just clone a Pluggable DB and plug-it-in in a different server. * Very easy upgrades and patching.

CASE Function( IF..THEN..ELSE) in SQL ORACLE Query With Example

04:03
ORACLE/PLSQL: CASE STATEMENT The Oracle/PLSQL CASE statement has the functionality of an IF-THEN-ELSE statement. Starting in Oracle 9i, you can use the CASE statement within a SQL statement. The syntax for the Oracle/PLSQL CASE statement is: CASE [ expression ] WHEN condition_1 THEN result_1 WHEN condition_2 THEN result_2 ... WHEN condition_n THEN result_n ELSE result END --------- ARGUMENTS: expression is optional. It is the value that you are comparing to the list of conditions. (ie: condition_1, condition_2, ... condition_n) condition_1 to condition_n must all be the same datatype. Conditions are evaluated in the order listed. Once a condition is found to be true, the CASE statement will return the result and not evaluate the conditions any further. result_1 to result_n must all be the same datatype. This is the value returned once a condition is found to be true. NOTE: If no condition is found to be true, then the CASE statement will return the value in the ELSE clause. If the ELSE clause is omitted and no condition is found to be true, then the CASE statement will return NULL. You can have up to 255 comparisons in a CASE statement. Each WHEN ... THEN clause is considered 2 comparisons. Lets apply this function on emp table. Emp table has 3 dept numbers like 10,20 and 30. So if I want to display the different dept names based on ID, I have to use IF THEN ELSE condition. IF deptno=10 THEN "DEPT1" ELSE deptno=20 THEN "DEPT2" ELSE deptno=30 THEN "DEPT3" This entire IF block can be achived using CASE. CASE deptno WHEN 10 THEN 'DEPT1' WHEN 20 THEN 'DEPT2' WHEN 30 THEN 'DEPT3' ELSE 'NO DEPT' END; Query used in Video: select empno,ename,deptno,CASE deptno WHEN 10 THEN 'DEPT1' WHEN 20 THEN 'DEPT2' WHEN 30 THEN 'DEPT3' ELSE 'No Dept' END from emp;

In case you miss the SQL functions intro video you can find the link in the description below. First let's see what these functions are. Upper (): This function takes a parameter converts it into uppercase and returns the new string. Initcap (): this function also takes parameter and converts the initial letter of or parameter into uppercase and returns the new string. Lower (): This function takes a parameter converts it into lowercase and returns the new string. Ok let's do some practical For this practical we will be using 2 tables First is dual table Which is a dummy table provided by oracle? And I have created another table again by the name of example. This will be our second table. Let's start with SQL function upper ( ); SELECT upper('hello world') FROM dual; As you can see I have used "hello world" completely in lowercase as parameter to SQL upper function. Execute it. Here, our result has given us a completely new hello world string which is in uppercase. Similarly you can also use SQL upper function to perform other DML Let's try This time we will work on our second table EXAMPLE; insert into example values (upper('manish')); first parentheses for values and second for SQL function upper. Let's check the result. As you can see here inserted value is in upper case. Lets compare it with simple insert query Insert into example values ('manish'); Execute it, i think now it's clear that when we perform simple insert DML the inserted value will be the same you provide. Similarly let's try SQL function initcap(); SELECT initcap('hello world') FROM dual; As you see here in result the initial letters of string hello world are in uppercase. Let's do the insert query insert into example values (initcap('hello world')); initial letters of string also are in uppercase. Let's try SQL function lower(); This time we have to write our hello world in all caps. SELECT lower('HELLO WORLD') FROM dual; Execute String totally in lower case. Similarly you can user SQL function lower in other DML like insert and all.

00:48
"Shares of database software rivals Oracle (ORCL) and SAP (SAP) are lower as the high-profile intellectual property case between the two goes to the jury. A lawyer for SAP said that Oracle CEO Larry Ellison pulled numbers ""out of the air"" when he estimated SAP owed billions of dollars in damages, Reuters reported. Oracle's lead attorney said the case is about the importance of protecting intellectual property in the software industry, Reuters reported. Oracle shares are down 2.76%, or $0.77, to $27.28. SAP shares are down 1.44% to $48.69."

NetData Case Studies Slow Oracle

11:04
There are a number of tools on the market that claim to allow you to analyze Data Bases.  I have many customers that own these tools and sometimes they work great.  Especially if it's what I call a "Low Hanging Fruit" problem, such as a slow SQL call like a SELECT or INSERT etc.   What happens when it's not so obvious?  This is where deep packet analysis is needed.  In the following case study we will look at a chronic problem that far too many of my customers experience and how to quickly resolve that issue.  This particular problem was lasting for months.  More memory was added, servers upgraded, content switches added/upgraded yet the problem still persisted.

Oracle of the Maritimes by Neko Case Album: Hell-On Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/2NauYKZdZVifVqQl7fQyWL Oracle of the Maritimes Lyrics: I planned a dream inside a dream With your uncle A fisherman who died The oracle of the maritimes Too cloudy to see fireworks We would ride A chest of drawers into the waves His granite hand held mine I asked him how to tell you How much I could love you 'Cause I've never been so sure of anything Sometimes I feel so beautiful It's strange for a tomboy Bruises up her legs Your big hand holds my face Sometimes I feel so ugly I'm afraid, worry nesting in my hair Shedding like a Christmas tree Surely there's a real woman coming to erase me There's no way I could tell you How much I could love you 'Cause I've never been so scared of anything And I'm not even wearing underwear In no way exotic, I just forgot to And I'm too much for people, so I gauge And shout my thoughts at you from a distance And that's no way to tell you How much I could love you Though I've never been so sure of anything He let go of my hand And passed me an oar The oracle of the maritimes He said "Come on, sweet girl, let's find you an ocean That goes with your eyes" He said "Come on, sweet girl, let's find you an ocean That goes with your eyes" #Neko_Case #Hell-On #Oracle of the Maritimes Important: We don't own any of the songs. 03:53
Sometimes there is a situation when we need to add new column conditionally with select statement. At that time a concept of case when then is very useful. In this video I have taken an example of student grade. Table contain two column student name and student grade If grade is A then I want result very good with new column Grade Status and if grade is D then I want result Fail with column Grade Status. How to achieve this task we will learn in this video. If you have any doubt you can mail me on [email protected] Don't forget to subscribe my channel.

Happy as Larry: Why Oracle won the Google Java Android case

08:53
Comment One piece of paper. Just one lousy piece of paper. That's the difference between success and a potential $8.8bn payout. Google's lucky streak finally ran out this week. Its defense for using Oracle's copyrighted Java code in Android – without paying the database giant a penny in royalties – collapsed in a US Federal appeals court, just as I predicted it would in 2016. Why was I so confident back then that Oracle would prevail? Copyright can be incredibly detailed and complicated, nightmarishly so when there are overlapping bundles of rights, as in music. But the principles of intellectual property are always straightforward, and this is what judges must ultimately consider. And this was a very straightforward case. Google didn't have that one vital bit of paper. Google had copied Sun Microsystems' Java – it took the technology then built useful new bits on it for Android – without a license. Internally, Google's Android team knew they should get a license and said so, but Sun, which at the time was in its Kumbaya era under its ponytailed CEO Jonathan Schwartz, hadn't got round to getting Google's signature on the paperwork. Then Oracle supremo Larry Ellison acquired the rights to Java, and Larry is emphatically not a Kumbaya sort of person. A piece of paper is required to keep someone like Larry at bay, and Google didn't have that piece of paper. Appeals court judges tend to uphold rulings on intellectual property, not because of some evil conspiracy, but because that's what the law requires judges to do. A court cannot hinder copyright law. Don't like it? That's OK. Change the law. The judges considered the merits of Google's defense, and the defense alone, and you should too. Discount all the diversions raised by the PR folk, the academic activists, the lobby groups, and that Random Concerned Fella on Twitter with an Opinion. I'm afraid too few people did that, as the speculation was ier than the facts. Specifically, the alarm was raised far and wide that an Oracle win would set back fair use, or lead to the copyrighting of software-to-software interfaces (otherwise known as APIs). Once again, it's helpful to turn to the law. Here's how I explained it a couple of years ago. APIs have always fallen under copyright, but just because you have something copyrightable does not mean you will ever assert it successfully. In US copyright law, the creative expression is what's copyrightable. You can attempt to assert copyright over a few words – which is really what SCO was attempting to do with Unix – but if it's not a substantial and original expression, you'll fail. And you shall pay for your self-indulgence. So Oracle was on firm ground, as Java ticked the boxes required: it was, to use the technical terms, an original work of authorship fixed in a tangible medium of expression. Firm ground is something Google wasn't on. After a few trips round the houses – it had tried to throw out Oracle's copyrightability claims – Goog

jQuery datatables stored procedure for paging sorting and searching

14:36
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/08/jquery-datatables-stored-procedure-for.html In this video we will discuss implementing a stored procedure that can perform paging sorting and searching. In our upcoming videos we will discuss writing a generic handler that calls this stored procedure. The generic handler will convert the data to JSON format. The JSON formatted data can then be consumed by the jQuery datatables plugin. All the processing, that is, paging, sorting and searching is done on the server side. If the dataset is small you can retrieve all the data at once and all the processing (i.e paging, searching, sorting) can be done on the client-side. We discussed this in Part 106 for jQuery tutorial. However, if the dataset is large (i.e if you have millions of records), loading all data at once is not the best thing to do from a performance standpoint. With large dataset, we only want to load the correct set of rows (sorted, paged and filtered data ) that want to display on the page. So all the processing ((i.e paging, searching and sorting) should be done by the server. So in this and our upcoming videos we will discuss performing server side processing. SQL Script to create the table and populate it with test data Create table tblEmployees ( ID int primary key identity, FirstName nvarchar(50), LastName nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(20), JobTitle nvarchar(20) ) Go Insert into tblEmployees values('Mark', 'Hastings','Male','Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Maria', 'Nicholas','Female','Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Robert', 'Stephenson','Male','Sr. Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Mary', 'Quant','Female','Sr. Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('John', 'Stenson','Male','Sr. Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Gilbert', 'Sullivan','Male','Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Rob', 'Gerald','Male','Sr. Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Ron', 'Simpson','Male','Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Sara', 'Solomon','Female','Sr. Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Rad', 'Wicht','Male','Sr. Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Julian', 'John','Male','Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('James', 'Bynes','Male','Sr. Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Mary', 'Ward','Female','Developer') Insert into tblEmployees values('Michael', 'Niron','Male','Sr. Developer') SQL Server stored procedure paging sorting and searching create proc spGetEmployees @DisplayLength int, @DisplayStart int, @SortCol int, @SortDir nvarchar(10), @Search nvarchar(255) = NULL as begin Declare @FirstRec int, @LastRec int Set @FirstRec = @DisplayStart; Set @LastRec = @DisplayStart + @DisplayLength; With CTE_Employees as ( Select ROW_NUMBER() over (order by case when (@SortCol = 0 and @SortDir='asc') then Id end asc, case when (@SortCol = 0 and @SortDir='desc') then Id end desc, case when (@SortCol = 1 and @SortDir='asc') then FirstName end asc, case when (@SortCol = 1 and @SortDir='desc') then FirstName end desc, case when (@SortCol = 2 and @SortDir='asc') then LastName end asc, case when (@SortCol = 2 and @SortDir='desc') then LastName end desc, case when (@SortCol = 3 and @SortDir='asc') then Gender end asc, case when (@SortCol = 3 and @SortDir='desc') then Gender end desc, case when (@SortCol = 4 and @SortDir='asc') then JobTitle end asc, case when (@SortCol = 4 and @SortDir='desc') then JobTitle end desc ) as RowNum, COUNT(*) over() as TotalCount, Id, FirstName, LastName, Gender, JobTitle from tblEmployees where (@Search IS NULL Or Id like '%' + @Search + '%' Or FirstName like '%' + @Search + '%' Or LastName like '%' + @Search + '%' Or Gender like '%' + @Search + '%' Or JobTitle like '%' + @Search + '%') ) Select * from CTE_Employees where RowNum ] @FirstRec and RowNum [= @LastRec end Finally test the stored procedure
