One Light Portrait Lighting for AWESOME Portraits & Headshots

05:40
I want to show you how you can create some awesome light for portrait photography and headshots using just ONE Flash! Great portrait lighting is not the result of owning lots of lights. Great studio lighting comes from learning to see light. In this photography lighting tutorial, I am going to walk you through different portrait lighting set-ups that you can do with just one light. The light can be a studio monolight or a simple speedlight, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. I’ll also show you how to use simple reflectors and light modifiers like softboxes and beauty dishes to enhance the quality of the light that you create for your portraits. This is the first in a series of studio lighting tutorials that I will post using 1, 2, 3 and 4 lights. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - MENTIONED PRODUCTS Flashpoint 320M 150ws Monolight: http://amzn.to/29cyNq0 LumoPro LP180 Speedlight: http://amzn.to/298tDv1 Neewer Adjustable Posing Stool: http://amzn.to/29jXFeS Photoflex Litedome 24" x 32" Softbox: http://amzn.to/296dNxO Impact Medium Softbox (24 x 32"): http://amzn.to/29czWxW Fotodiox 43-Inch Shoot Through White Umbrella: http://amzn.to/294oGzN Flashpoint 22" Soft Reflector, Beauty Dish for Monolights: http://amzn.to/298vhN3 Cowboystudio 22 in Speedlight Beauty Dish Mount: http://amzn.to/29cBqIi Newer Reflector Holder: http://amzn.to/29Pa5Kw 24X36 1/8" White Foam Core Backings: http://amzn.to/29P9uc7 SUBSCRIBE so that you don’t miss NEW VIDEOS! https://tog.chat/ytsubscribe PATREON Help me HELP YOU: https://tog.chat/patreon or donate via PayPal: https://tog.chat/paypal MY WEBSITE & BLOG http://www.JoeEdelman.com WANNA SEE MY GEAR? https://joeedelman.fyi/gear SHOP FOR TOGSWAG℠ http://www.togswag.com LET'S CONNECT! - Like & Follow on FACEBOOK: http://tog.chat/facebook - Follow on TWITTER: http://tog.chat/twitter - Follow on INSTAGRAM: http://tog.chat/instagram - Check my boards on PINTEREST: http://tog.chat/pinterest - Connect on LINKEDIN: http://tog.chat/linkedin - Connect on GOOGLE+: http://tog.chat/googleplus FTC Disclosure: No sponsors have paid for or provided equipment or material shown in this video #ishootpeople #joeedelman

2 Light Glamour Lighting Setup - A Studio Lighting Tutorial with Glamour Lighting

04:51
This glamour lighting setup is simple. Two lights and one medium sized softbox. I placed one 320ws strobe on camera left just behind the box and aiming into the corner of the room. This strobe was dialed up almost to full power, and I used a light amber gel to give me just a little color to the light as it lit the wall and the box. This is another one of my keep it simple stupid lighting tutorials. It only requires two lights and a medium sized softbox - and yes - you can do it with speedlights or monolights. This shot was made as part of a glamour session for a new model who came to me to add some flavor to her portfolio. She had already done a few photo sessions and the agencies were telling her that her photos were too much like fashion shots. This model is only 5’4” tall which means she won’t be shooting fashion AND modeling agencies are ok with some swimsuit shots if they are more PG than R rated. So the goal was to create a shot to show that this young lady is in great shape and is very comfortable with herself. As is often the case, new models struggle with hand placement and I know that many of you as photographers have the same struggles when it comes to telling a model what to do with her hands. I can’t teach you that in this video, but I will tell you that I am going to be doing some videos on that topic soon and some of my older videos do touch on that subject. For now, let me just tell you that when in doubt - about what to do with hands - give the model something real to do - hold something - touch something, etc. - while it may not get you a perfect hand - it will get you closer to something that looks natural and is not a distraction in your photo. With that in mind, I wanted to create a setting that would allow me to do something other than have the model put her hands on her hips or play with the outfit she was wearing, and I couldn’t go too dramatic with the pose because remember - the purpose of the shot was to show her figure and personality. I decided to use my all-purpose box that I showed you in this video as a second wall and I placed it along another white wall in my studio, with the model sandwiched between the two. Rembrandt Lighting

05:11
DOWNLOAD RESUME/CV TEMPLATE: http://geni.us/jpa-resume-template My Camera Gear: http://geni.us/jordankit Rembrandt lighting is popular in the photography world. It's a simple setup that can achieve a very emotional and cinematic look. It's one light angled at a 45* to hit the subject's face on one side. It casts a shadow on the nose creating a triangle on the cheek. Use diffusion to soften the light. When positioning your subject, it's easier to move them than it is to move the light. Also, you can fill it the opposite side of the subject using a fill light or a reflector board (B-Board). Play around with the image. SEND US YOUR QUESTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS!! DIY Fluorescent Photography Studio Lighting with T8 Bulbs - Make your own kino flo portrait lighting

09:03
This is a DIY fluorescent studio lighting photography set-up that is perfect for portrait photography and beauty shots and headshots. You can build it yourself for under $400 dollars. I began using this DIY fluorescent lighting technique nearly 15 years ago, long before kino-flo’s and Peter Hurley became popular. I have been asked to describe it so many times that I decided it was time to put together a few tutorials to show how to build it and how to use it. So for under $400.00 you have a 4 light studio lighting set-up that is suitable for still AND video photography and unlike my previous set-up these units can be hung from a glide track or stand mounted in other a horizontal or vertical position. They are more energy efficient, brighter and they make no noise that will interfere with your sound recordings. How well do they light? All of my narrative was shot using this DIY set-up. I almost forgot the best part…. little to no flicker! You can shoot portraits and headshots at shutter speeds higher then 125th of a second with no adverse effects! Family Living Off Grid in Camper Trailer & Tree House Style Studio

07:17
Jeff McIntyre and his family spend as much time as they can living in the 1920's style, off-grid camp they created on a 400 acre piece of land that includes 2 private lakes. This mini documentary tours their "cookie" which is a treehouse-style artist studio that doubles as a cookhouse. They use solar powered studio lights and a propane lamp for lighting, a wood stove for heat and stovetop cooking, and a propane oven for baking. The family converted an old trailer by gutting the inside and re-purposing it as a master bedroom complete with wood-panneled walls, a queen-sized bed and bunk beds for the kids. Thanks for watching! The Basics of a One Light Setup: A Lighting Tutorial

07:12
Sign up for a free business call with Jay P. http://bit.ly/1riRM7M In today's TSL lesson we are going way back to the very basics of a one light setup to light a face. Our talent Tiffany Taylor is beautiful and it's very easy to demonstrate on her face. Everything in the world is a ball, a cube or a cylinder. The human face is nothing more than a ball with features. Let's look at how to light the face and background to create separation and interest with a single light source. We are using a Dynalite continuous light source for our portraits because we are shooting on the Canon 1DC and will pull still images from the video footage. This was an interesting process and one we will talk about in our next lesson at length. Let's look at the basics of a one light setup. Enter our giveaway- http://theslantedlens.com/giveaway -Jay P. Mike Corsentino // Lighting Techniques Low Key

05:36
Great lighting is as much about adding light as it is about subtracting it. Low-key lighting is essentially lighting that creates a dramatic difference between the highlights and shadows in an image, also known as chiaroscuro. Typically two- to three-point lighting is used, consisting of a main light, background light or accent light(s) and sometimes a fill light or reflector. Using multiple points of light helps create a layered quality to the lighting and adds depth to your image. This stye of lighting has been historically favored by master painters and is now embraced by film makers and photographers alike. The rapid transitions between highlight and shadow have a sculpting effect that creates volume, contour and drama as it falls on a subject or object. Modifying & Shaping the Light Low-key lighting is all about controlling, containing, directing and shaping light so it falls exactly where you want it without any unintended spill onto surrounding areas in the image. To do this effectively a variety of light-shaping tools are employed, from simple to sophisticated. Because I wanted a rapid fall-off of light and a specular quality for the highlights in these portraits, I choose a Mola Demi 22" beauty dish with no diffusion as the modifier for my key light. This lightweight and easily portable light shaper creates a snappy quality of light that's perfect for a wide variety of lighting styles. If you haven't checked out beauty dishes yet I encourage you to do so. I'm using a 500 WS Profoto D1 Air strobe as my main light. The good news is with an accessory bracket the Mola Demi can also be used with Speedlites, which I've done on other occasions as well. To create the rim/accent light on the left and right sides of the images I used two 500 WS Profoto D1 Air strobes. One fitted with a standard reflector and 20o honeycomb grid attached and the other with a small octabank. With the D1s, grids can be attached directly to the light head; however for these portraits I used the older style grid that requires an intermediate reflector. I did this to create a punchier quality of light with the accent light. Grids are essential light-shaping tools and definitely fall into my desert island, lighting-modifier category. Again these are worth looking into when you can. They're available in hard discs and fabric panels known as "egg crates."

Snoot Basics - Lighting Tutorial

06:42
**Go to http://theslantedlens.com/giveaway/ to enter for a chance to win a Rosco V-Hazer Fog Machine! Enter daily 'til 01/31.** Today on The Slanted Lens, we are going to answer the age old question, “What is a snoot?” We are still at the YouTube Space and going strong but before we get to our film noir setup, let’s take a look at what a snoot is. A snoot is a funny name for a piece of equipment that fits over a studio light or portable flash and allows the photographer to control the direction or area of coverage of the light. In film, we use black wrap to create snoots – basically black aluminum foil that can be formed into a funnel and molded to the light. So what is the area of coverage of a snoot? This is a hard question to answer since there are many different sizes from different manufacturers and you can make your own. The one I have is fairly average so let’s look at how it compares to a grid. I shot an image of our subject against a white wall with the light eight feet away and a second on set. The area of coverage is very narrow and the fall out is very sharp. There is a certain amount of fill in the dark areas when we shot on the white wall but I don’t think the snoot was sealed well enough to the instrument. Images using a snoot usually have a very concentrated area of light with no fill in the shadows. Compare this to a shot with the same setup using a 10 degree grid. The edges are softer with the grid, the light falls off much faster and there is a hot spot in the middle. The quality of light with a snoot is a little bit harder than a grid. It is a very directional light with little or no fill from light bouncing off the sides of the reflector. Because the snoot is so far out in front of the reflector, it has negated any side bounce. We got some great images with snoots and a hazer. This type of look is very compelling to me. Take a look at a few of the edited color images after the faces and floor were retouched. Snoots are a hard light that create a lot of contrast, which is great for black and white images. It wouldn't be film noir if the images didn't look good in B&W, so take a look at the final images after I took them into Silver Efex. These past two lessons on grids and snoots have been a great exercise for me and has helped me understand the difference between these two pieces of equipment. Grids are harder and more diffused on the edges while a snoot is more directional and keeps a constant exposure throughout the light pattern. Snoots do have the advantage of being any size you want them to be when using black wrap to create them. Grids only have four sizes. They both have a place on set, though, and I hope you learned as much as I did. Keep those cameras rollin' and keep on clickin'. Studio Portrait Lighting with Smith Victor CooLED lights & Smith Victor 19" Bi-Color LED Ring Light

11:34
This week I am going to show you some cool studio portrait lighting with the Smith Victor CooLED Series of LED studio lights. There are three Smith Victor CooLED models - the CooLED 20, CooLED 50 and CooLED 100. All three of these studio lighting units are single chip LED's with a color temperature of 5,200k and they are dimmable through 5 steps. With all metal construction, these units are built to last. I am also going to use the newest addition to ProMarkBrands, Smith Victor LED lineup - the 19" Bi-Color Ring Light. This is not a basic ring light. With a CRI of 95 and 6000 lumens of light, this ring 19" Bi-Color ring light has fully dimmable output and adjustable color temperature from 3000k up to 5500k. First Studio Apartment Ideas - IKEA Home Tour (Episode 402)

03:00
In episode 402 of the IKEA Home Tour Series, the Squad heads to Philadelphia to help Ginelle, an aspiring 2D animator, makeover her current barebones studio apartment. As an up and coming digital designer, Ginelle needs to ensure the space in her home promotes a creative and relaxing ambience. This space serves as her office, bedroom and living room, so the Squad will have to ensure that they create an environment that is stylish as well as entertaining and relaxing. Let's see what types of studio apartment ideas they came up with. To start, the Squad chose a NYBODA coffee table for its reversible design that allows you to change the table's look and added a NYMÖ lamp shade bringing decorative light patterns to the space. By incorporating a KALLAX shelving unit into the studio apartment's layout, the Squad was able to divide the space into separate ""rooms."" Ginelle now has space for a cozy, private bedroom and a living room that will allow her to comfortably host friends and family in her new apartment. Because Ginelle’s apartment was in need of nearly everything, the team also wanted to ensure that her blank canvas was finished out with the proper necessities and color-coordinated accessories. For the seating area, the team included the SÖDERHAMN sofa in a stylish color with a plush VINDUM rug. And lastly, the Squad used a LINNMON/ALEX table with plenty of storage for her art supplies and proper lighting to ensure Ginelle that has a place to focus her creative energy. A Sci-Fi photography lighting fashion shoot - Karl Taylor Photography for Hasselblad Photokina show

06:46
A Sci-Fi photography lighting fashion shoot - Karl Taylor Photography for Hasselblad Photokina show: Hasselblad Photokina Shoot with Karl Taylor: As a professional photographer it is always a great pleasure to be commissioned for a high profile shoot, but for me, it was an exceptional honor to be commissioned to undertake this particular project. http://www.karltaylorphotography.com/blog/hasselblad-photokina-2014/ In photography, there is no bigger event than Photokina. It is the Olympics of the photographic world, it only happens every two years in the city of Cologne in Germany. Pretty much the entire photography world comes together to showcase their latest products, meet dealers, talk to the press and basically give it all they've got to show the world what they do. http://www.karltaylorphotography.com/blog/hasselblad-photokina-2014/ One of the most prestigious brands on the planet (not just in photography) always stamps its mark at the event in a dramatic fashion. Hasselblad, renowned as the premier in professional photography, is set to wow again with their imposing stand at Photokina 2014. With this in mind, I felt privileged and honored to shoot the campaign images for this iconic company and their huge Photokina stand artwork. The brief was to create stylish imagery that was edgy, impacting, befitting the brand and with a futuristic theme. This sci-fi style was needed to fit with the launch of the new digital backs for the older V system cameras and pay homage to Hasselblad's involvement in the Apollo Lunar space missions. http://www.karltaylorphotography.com/blog/hasselblad-photokina-2014/ My first thoughts were this had the potential to be a disaster. I was well aware that there is a fine line between a sci-fi theme and what could turn into a costume party! Click on this link below to read the full project article plus see the photographic results and computer generated visual of Hasselblad's incredible stand for Photokina 2014: http://www.karltaylorphotography.com/blog/hasselblad-photokina-2014/ ----------------------------------------------------- Learn more about Photography with Karl Taylor here...
