Rembrandt Lighting
How to Start Your Production Company ENROLL TODAY: https://geni.us/course-signup My Camera Gear: http://geni.us/jordankit Rembrandt lighting is popular in the photography world. It's a simple setup that can achieve a very emotional and cinematic look. It's one light angled at a 45* to hit the subject's face on one side. It casts a shadow on the nose creating a triangle on the cheek. Use diffusion to soften the light. When positioning your subject, it's easier to move them than it is to move the light. Also, you can fill it the opposite side of the subject using a fill light or a reflector board (B-Board). Play around with the image. SEND US YOUR QUESTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS!! Beauty Lighting 101 | 3 Commercial Lighting Techniques
Stay tuned to the end for a chance to win a prize! When shooting beauty commercials you will have to light a variety of different skin tones and utilize a variety of different styles. By learning the fundamentals of beauty lighting, you'll be able to create flattering light on anyone's face. Director and DP Valentina Vee shows us how to light for beauty for 3 different styles and skin tones. Lighting for beauty commercials encapsulates a variety of different scenarios, and the key is to match the style of your visuals to the desires of the client. You can create everything from creating a bright, high-key look to highlight skin tones, to a cinematic, low-key style, that accentuates your talent's features. Beauty lighting can require intricate lighting designs, allowing you to express your inner creativity, while also giving you the opportunity to please your clients. In this video, Valentina discusses the importance of soft light and tailoring your style to your client's needs, while also acknowledging, that you can still achieve beautifully cinematic results without soft light. The commercial look requires the softest, and brightest lighting design, while the 80s vintage look utilizes a warmer, hazier quality. Lastly, the avant-garde look throws caution to the wind and incorporates hard light, slashes, and intense color contrast to create cinematic imagery. By mastering beauty lighting you'll be able to create stunning portraits and commercials, that highlight both the talent's and the client's desired features. These techniques don't only apply to commercial cinematography, but also grant you the ability to light faces of any kind. The skills learned from beauty lighting are linked to being able to tailor the look and style of the lighting to the needs of the story. Snoot Basics - Lighting Tutorial
**Go to http://theslantedlens.com/giveaway/ to enter for a chance to win a Rosco V-Hazer Fog Machine! Enter daily 'til 01/31.** Today on The Slanted Lens, we are going to answer the age old question, “What is a snoot?” We are still at the YouTube Space and going strong but before we get to our film noir setup, let’s take a look at what a snoot is. A snoot is a funny name for a piece of equipment that fits over a studio light or portable flash and allows the photographer to control the direction or area of coverage of the light. In film, we use black wrap to create snoots – basically black aluminum foil that can be formed into a funnel and molded to the light. So what is the area of coverage of a snoot? This is a hard question to answer since there are many different sizes from different manufacturers and you can make your own. The one I have is fairly average so let’s look at how it compares to a grid. I shot an image of our subject against a white wall with the light eight feet away and a second on set. The area of coverage is very narrow and the fall out is very sharp. There is a certain amount of fill in the dark areas when we shot on the white wall but I don’t think the snoot was sealed well enough to the instrument. Images using a snoot usually have a very concentrated area of light with no fill in the shadows. Compare this to a shot with the same setup using a 10 degree grid. The edges are softer with the grid, the light falls off much faster and there is a hot spot in the middle. The quality of light with a snoot is a little bit harder than a grid. It is a very directional light with little or no fill from light bouncing off the sides of the reflector. Because the snoot is so far out in front of the reflector, it has negated any side bounce. We got some great images with snoots and a hazer. This type of look is very compelling to me. Take a look at a few of the edited color images after the faces and floor were retouched. Snoots are a hard light that create a lot of contrast, which is great for black and white images. It wouldn't be film noir if the images didn't look good in B&W, so take a look at the final images after I took them into Silver Efex. These past two lessons on grids and snoots have been a great exercise for me and has helped me understand the difference between these two pieces of equipment. Grids are harder and more diffused on the edges while a snoot is more directional and keeps a constant exposure throughout the light pattern. Snoots do have the advantage of being any size you want them to be when using black wrap to create them. Grids only have four sizes. They both have a place on set, though, and I hope you learned as much as I did. Keep those cameras rollin' and keep on clickin'. Mike Corsentino // Lighting Techniques Low Key
Great lighting is as much about adding light as it is about subtracting it. Low-key lighting is essentially lighting that creates a dramatic difference between the highlights and shadows in an image, also known as chiaroscuro. Typically two- to three-point lighting is used, consisting of a main light, background light or accent light(s) and sometimes a fill light or reflector. Using multiple points of light helps create a layered quality to the lighting and adds depth to your image. This stye of lighting has been historically favored by master painters and is now embraced by film makers and photographers alike. The rapid transitions between highlight and shadow have a sculpting effect that creates volume, contour and drama as it falls on a subject or object. Modifying & Shaping the Light Low-key lighting is all about controlling, containing, directing and shaping light so it falls exactly where you want it without any unintended spill onto surrounding areas in the image. To do this effectively a variety of light-shaping tools are employed, from simple to sophisticated. Because I wanted a rapid fall-off of light and a specular quality for the highlights in these portraits, I choose a Mola Demi 22" beauty dish with no diffusion as the modifier for my key light. This lightweight and easily portable light shaper creates a snappy quality of light that's perfect for a wide variety of lighting styles. If you haven't checked out beauty dishes yet I encourage you to do so. I'm using a 500 WS Profoto D1 Air strobe as my main light. The good news is with an accessory bracket the Mola Demi can also be used with Speedlites, which I've done on other occasions as well. To create the rim/accent light on the left and right sides of the images I used two 500 WS Profoto D1 Air strobes. One fitted with a standard reflector and 20o honeycomb grid attached and the other with a small octabank. With the D1s, grids can be attached directly to the light head; however for these portraits I used the older style grid that requires an intermediate reflector. I did this to create a punchier quality of light with the accent light. Grids are essential light-shaping tools and definitely fall into my desert island, lighting-modifier category. Again these are worth looking into when you can. They're available in hard discs and fabric panels known as "egg crates."

The Most Emulated Portrait Lighting Set-Up. A quick look at Tim's highly effective camera room.
Yes, there are many other styles, moving in and out of vogue, and some work well especially well for single subjects. The Tim Kelly Lighting Style thinks much larger and ultimately more complexly powerful. "We light the entire set with a unified direction of light, handling individuals, couples and groups with essentially the same set up. Any background, any clothing, it's easy to get the right light and the look you want". Tim Kelly lighting as created around 1985 and absolutely mastered in his 1988 Park Avenue studio. What seems pretty common today was actually a HUGE departure from the norm in the late '80's. Even though it was laughed at for years, Tim was immediately sponsored by Kodak, Larson, Photogenic and others to teach his new lighting technique and bring it to the height of popularity. Over three decades later, it's influence is still felt in the photographic portrait industry. Kelly is a lighting master who employs all tools, techniques and styles as needed, though certainly is most famous for the beauty of his personally designed look. Please watch, Studio Lighting, Lighting 101 and Mastering the 4x6 Soffbox, all found on our channel.

Do you want to see how to create images where the fabric of the dress is thrown into the air? Check out the video to find out! I hope you'll enjoy the video! I'm planning on sharing videos in which I show you my typical work-week as a photographer. I will give you tips & tricks concerning photography, photo shoots, backdrops, studio props, camera settings (iso, aperture, shutter speed, white balance), photoshoot outfits, photoshoot make-up etc. Ik zal videos maken over camera instellingen (iso, sluitertijd, diafragma, wit-balans), studio achtergronden, fotoshoot outfits, fotoshoot make-up enz. IMPORTANT If you are interested in photographing newborn babies yourself I would highly recommend you to first learn about photography in general. Master you camera, photograph in the Manual mode, learn about aperture, iso, shutter speed, white balance, light and composition. Take photos of your friends (adults or very patient older kids) and make sure you don't have to think about your camera anymore when photographing babies. Learn about editing as well. Please, don't experiment photographing Newborn babies without training. Attend a workshop by an experienced and professional photographer with an expertise in Newborn Photography. Learn about the anatomy of babies and invest in good quality cameras, lenses and props. Babies are extremely vulnerable and small and their safety and comfort should be your highest priority. Start with simple poses and make sure you know and understand that many 'pinterest poses' are composites. Please, don't try this at home. If you want beautiful photos of your own Newborn Baby, I highly recommend you to hire a professional and experienced photographer who is trained and specialised in Newborn Photography. #fenna_and_photography #photoshoot #photography #fotograaf #fotografie #fotoshoot #photographer #behindthescenes #photoshootprops #photostudio #newbornphotography #nikon #nikonnederland #newbornphotoshoot #newbornphotographer #babyphotographer #babyphotography #babyphotoshoot #newbornfotograaf http://www.wonder-fotografie.nl http://www.facebook.com/wonderfotografie https://www.instagram.com/wonderfotografie https://www.instagram.com/fenna_and_photography/ Music: Keep Walking by Rodrigo Vicente https://www.hooksounds.com Still Back by ZAYFALL https://soundcloud.com/zayfallmusic

DIY Fluorescent Photography Studio Lighting with T8 Bulbs - Make your own kino flo portrait lighting
This is a DIY fluorescent studio lighting photography set-up that is perfect for portrait photography and beauty shots and headshots. You can build it yourself for under $400 dollars. I began using this DIY fluorescent lighting technique nearly 15 years ago, long before kino-flo’s and Peter Hurley became popular. I have been asked to describe it so many times that I decided it was time to put together a few tutorials to show how to build it and how to use it. So for under $400.00 you have a 4 light studio lighting set-up that is suitable for still AND video photography and unlike my previous set-up these units can be hung from a glide track or stand mounted in other a horizontal or vertical position. They are more energy efficient, brighter and they make no noise that will interfere with your sound recordings. How well do they light? All of my narrative was shot using this DIY set-up. I almost forgot the best part…. little to no flicker! You can shoot portraits and headshots at shutter speeds higher then 125th of a second with no adverse effects! Small space living: my NYC studio apartment
My favorite renter-friendly things I use to decorate my apartment: https://amzn.to/2CokXh8 Want to see what I'm up to day to day? Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eyspace/ The first thing I do when moving into a new apartment is to switch out all the incandescent light bulbs for LED light bulbs. They last longer and consume less energy so you save money in the long run. I like to buy dimmable ones because they can be used with any type of light switch. I've also recently started using smart LED bulbs you can control with your smart phone but they also work with Alexa or Google Assistant. Wall mounted switch and plug-in receiver : https://amzn.to/2t9XvRf My life changed for the better when I discovered wall mounted switches and plug-in receivers and I've used these in just about every home I've lived in since! They give you the ability to add a light switch anywhere to control plug-in lamps. You simply plug the receiver into an outlet and then plug your lamp into the receiver. Then you place the light switch anywhere you want in the room. Easy Plug-in Dimmer Switch: https://amzn.to/2liFRWZ Having light switches with dimmers makes it easy to change the mood of a space - it's fairly easy to switch out regular switches to dimmable ones, but an quick alternative is to use plug-in dimmer switches instead. You simply plug the lamp into the switch, plug the switch into an outlet and you’re done! Just be sure you select the right one depending on wether you have incandescent or LED lightbulbs. Thanks to these things and many DIY projects, I completely transformed my small NYC studio apartment into a functional, stylish & livable space, & then transformed it back to its original state: It was a wonderful place to call home for the past 3 years - no only was it the inspiration for "Engineer Your Space", it was also the source of many of the projects you've seen on the show. But it's now time for a change, and before I make the move to my new home in sunny California, I want to take you on a tour of my rental apartment. You'll see how I made small space living work for me using DIY home décor projects to make my small studio apartment a beautiful and functional place to live and work. One of the main things I did was create distinct areas like an entryway and a bedroom that are visually separate from the rest of the apartment using bookcases and a hanging wall divider from IKEA. From removing closet doors to making my own custom lighting, there is no shortage of DIY projects in my studio apartment. All of these projects were easy to build in my apartment, easy to take apart, and left the apartment exactly the way it was when I moved in, ensuring I got my safety deposit back! I hope you enjoy the tour of my apartment and that you can use some of these studio apartment ideas to decorate your rental like you own it! Want to see what I'm working on next?
