Join (SQL)

21:02
An SQL join clause combines records from two or more tables in a database. It creates a set that can be saved as a table or used as it is. A JOIN is a means for combining fields from two tables by using values common to each. ANSI-standard SQL specifies five types of JOIN: INNER, LEFT OUTER, RIGHT OUTER, FULL OUTER and CROSS. As a special case, a table can JOIN to itself in a self-join. A programmer writes a JOIN statement to identify the records for joining. If the evaluated predicate is true, the combined record is then produced in the expected format, a record set or a temporary table. Sample tables Relational databases are often normalized to eliminate duplication of information when objects may have one-to-many relationships. For example, a Department may be associated with many different Employees. Joining two tables effectively creates another table which combines information from both tables. This is at some expense in terms of the time it takes to compute the join. While it is also possible to simply maintain a denormalized table if speed is important, duplicate information may take extra space, and add the expense and complexity of maintaining data integrity if data which is duplicated later changes. All subsequent explanations on join types in this article make use of the following two tables. The rows in these tables serve to illustrate the effect of different types of joins and join-predicates. In the following tables the DepartmentID column of the Department table (which can be designated as Department.DepartmentID) is the primary key, while Employee.DepartmentID is a foreign key. Note: In the Employee table above, the employee "John" has not been assigned to any department yet. Also, note that no employees are assigned to the "Marketing" department. SQL tutorial for beginners | Part 4 | Basic SELECT statement

09:27
Today we will start with the basic SELECT statement after setting up the Oracle Live-SQL environment. What is SQL? SQL (Structured Query Language) is a standardized programming language that's used to manage relational databases and perform various operations on the data in them. Initially created in the 1970s, SQL is regularly used not only by database administrators, but also by developers writing data integration scripts and data analysts looking to set up and run analytical queries. The uses of SQL include modifying database table and index structures; adding, updating and deleting rows of data; and retrieving subsets of information from within a database for transaction processing and analytics applications. Queries and other SQL operations take the form of commands written as statements -- commonly used SQL statements include select, add, insert, update, delete, create, alter and truncate. SQL became the de facto standard programming language for relational databases after they emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Also known as SQL databases, relational systems comprise a set of tables containing data in rows and columns. Each column in a table corresponds to a category of data -- for example, customer name or address -- while each row contains a data value for the intersecting column. SQL standard and proprietary extensions An official SQL standard was adopted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 1986 and then by the International Organization for Standardization, known as ISO, in 1987. More than a half-dozen joint updates to the standard have been released by the two standards development bodies since then; as of this writing, the most recent version is SQL:2011, approved that year. Step 5-Data Source All of the Administrative tools would be displayed in a separate window. We have to setup our database connection, so for that click ODBC Data Sources option. Step 6- Adding System DSN A window will open up having different tabs in it. Choose System DSN tab and then click Add button on right. Step 7- Choosing ODBC option A window will open up having the list of ODBC drivers in it. As we have to configure our ODBC driver for MySQL, choose My SQL ODBC Driver option and click on Finish. Step 8-Configuring the Connection With that done, the odbc mysql configuration window will open up. In that window, give the data source a name, if MySQL instance is installed in the same pc in which we are setting up the ODBC driver, give "localhost" as a name of TCP IP server and leave the port as default. Give the appropriate user name for which you have granted access to your database, here let us assign "root" in user as it has access to all the databases by default and leave password field blank as root is configured with empty password by default. After that, we have to choose the required database which we want to be linked through this connection from the databases drop down menu in the bottom. After that, click OK button. Step 9- Connection Appeared In List The connection would appear in the System DSN Connections list. This connection basically contains the information of the server on which MySQL is installed and the database which has to be used. And this is how MySQL ODBC driver is setup in windows.
How to delete duplicate records from a table in oracle

02:01
Let c how to remove duplicates from a table..I have one table here 'student' It has two duplicate records. 3 joe 4 robert These two records has duplicates. So I have to remove them. I can remove them using rowid functionality using one subquery. You can give different column names in GROUP BY clause. to identify the duplicate record. You can give just primary key values also. Duplicate rows are deleted now... Query used in video: delete from student where rowid not in (select min(rowid) from student group by sno, sname); Thanks for watching...:)

SQL tutorial for beginners | Part 3 | Primary key & foreign key

07:21
In today's SQL tutorial we will learn more about the primary key and the foreign key which are both crucial parts of sql tables. A primary key is a special key which uniquely identifies each record in a table. It is very important in the relational database to have a unique identifier in each row of a table and primary key is just the thing you need to uniquely identify a tuple within a table. A tuple represents a set of value attributes in a relational database. A primary key may refer to a column or a set of columns in a relational database table used to implicitly identify all records in the table. The primary key must be unique for each record as it acts as a unique identifier and it should not contain Null values. Each database must have one and only one primary key. A foreign key refers to a field or a collection of fields in a database record that uniquely identifies a key field of another database record in some other table. In simple terms, it establishes a link between records in two different tables in a database. It can be a column in a table that points to the primary key columns meaning a foreign key defined in a table refers to the primary key of some other table. References are crucial in relational databases to establish links between records which is essential for sorting databases. Foreign keys play an important role in relational database normalization especially when tables need to access other tables. SQL tutorial for beginners | Part 7 | BETWEEN, AND, ORDER BY

07:28
The SQL BETWEEN condition allows you to easily test if an expression is within a range of values (inclusive). The values can be text, date, or numbers. It can be used in a SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statement. The SQL BETWEEN Condition will return the records where expression is within the range of value1 and value2. The SQL ORDER BY clause is used to sort the data in ascending or descending order, based on one or more columns. Source: https://bit.ly/2Fkr6fR What is SQL?
