In this video, the working principle of the Electronic Oscillator has been explained. By watching this video, you will learn the following topics: 0:42 What is Oscillator 1:04 How OScillator Works? 4:03 Barkhausen Criteria for Oscillations and mathematical derivation 8:12 Different Types of Oscillators What is Oscillator: The Oscillator is an electronic circuit, which accepts the DC voltage and generates the periodic time varying waveform of the desired frequency. How Oscillator Works: The Oscillator is an amplifier with positive feedback. When the Oscillator is turned ON, then the thermal noise is amplified by the amplifier of the oscillator. The feedback circuit in the oscillator is the frequency selective circuit. It amplifies only one particular frequency from all other frequencies. And over the period of time, the one frequency will get build up and gives the periodic oscillations at the output. Barkhausen Criteria: For sustained Oscillation, 1) the magnitude of the loop gain AB should be equal to 1 (AB =1) 2) Phase Shift introduced by the amplifier and the feedback circuit should be zero. Types of OScillator: Depending on the type of feedback circuit the oscillators can be broadly classified as 1) RC OScillator 2) LC OScillator 3) Crystal OScillator Depending on the arrangement of these R, L, C components, it can be further classified. Click to know more : https://goo.gl/81ty4A Real Life Application In this topic, Basics of Electrical Machines, the Principles of Electromechanical Energy Conversion Devices and the Relations between Electric field and Magnetic field are explained whose real life applications are immense. For example, all the DC Machines and the AC Machines are derived from these theories and are being used in possibly every field of technology. Explanation: To understand all the Electrical Machines with clarity it’s important to have basic idea of Electric Field, Magnetic Field, and the Relation between Electric Current and Magnetic Field and a very brief idea of Electromechanical Energy Conversion Principles. Electromechanical Energy Conversion Principles in layman terms is nothing but the interaction between Electrical System and Mechanical System. Electrical Energy cannot be directly converted to Mechanical Energy and vice-versa. A medium is needed in between these two systems which is known as Coupling Field. Now, this Coupling Field can be either Electric Field or Magnetic Field. The function of this field is to convert energy, for example electrical energy to mechanical energy in case of Motors and vice-versa in Generators. In Electrical machines, the coupling field which is preferred is the Magnetic Field because it can store more energy and produce more force compared to Electric Field. A classic example of Electromechanical Energy Conversion Device with Magnetic Field is a Relay. Electric Field is said to be present around a body which is positively or negatively charged, while Magnetic Field is said to be produced due to moving charges like electrons moving in a conductor in one direction (Electric Current). Relations between Electric Current and Magnetic Field: 1.A steady current produces a steady magnetic field.(Given by Hans Orsted in 1819) 2.A steady magnetic field cannot produce a current. (Failed experiment of Michael Faraday). 3.A steady magnetic field can produce current in a moving conductor loop. (Michael Faraday). 4.A changing magnetic field can produce current in a steady conductor loop. (Michael Faraday). 5.A current carrying conductor will experience force when it is present in a steady magnetic field. (Michael Faraday). The above relationships led to establishment of the most important laws of Electrical Engineering namely Ampere’s Law, Biot-Savart’s law, Faraday’s Law.

Superposition Theorem Explained (with Examples)

In this video, Superposition Theorem is explained with examples. So, in this video, first, Superposition Theorem is explained using one example of an electrical circuit and then three examples based on this Superposition Theorem has been solved. Superposition Theorem Statement: Any linear bilateral network containing more than one independent sources, the response in any of the branches ( Voltage or Current) is equal to the algebraic sum of the responses caused by each individual sources acting alone, where rest of the sources are replaced by their internal impedance. So, ideal voltage source will be replaced by a short circuit and ideal current source will be replaced by an open circuit. This Superposition Theorem is quite useful when circuit contains more than one independent AC sources with different frequencies. To apply this Superposition Theorem, the network or circuit has to be linear and bilateral. If the circuit contains any dependent source, then during the Superposition Theorem analysis, all the dependent sources are kept on. Or in another way, we can say that dependent sources are not turned off during the analysis. Linearity is defined by two principles 1.Homogenity 2.Additivity Homogenity If input is scaled by some constant factor, then output should also be scaled by same constant factor. One more very important fact to justify the homogenity is., if input is not applied to the circuit, output must have to be zero. Additivity If we will add two inputs and feed to the circuits, then total output must have to be equal as the sum of individual output which will be produced by each source individually. Superposition theorem In any linear circuit, voltage across or current through an element is the algebraic sum of voltages across or current through that element due to each independent source acting alone, when remaining sources are replaced by their internal impedances. Hence we have to determine (v’) Active voltage source only and calculate v’; when current source is replaced by ideal independent source. Voltage source ideal impedance is zero Case① Voltage source is acting alone Case② Current source is acting alone So final total voltage is Limitation of Superposition principle 1.Power calculation cannot be done by superposition principle because power is not linear function of voltage or current. 2.Superposition is not applicable if any redundant source will present in the circuit. 3.Superposition is not applicable if any non-linear component is present in circuit.
