Newcomb's Paradox - What Would You Choose?

05:34
Newcomb’s paradox has been dividing people for the last 50 years, with answers to the problem split almost equally. At the heart of the paradox lies a conflict between two principles of decision theory: the expected utility principle, and the dominance principle. Choosing to open both boxes, or just the second box, are both rational choices. But what would you choose? AUDIOVISUAL - Untold Secrets of the Kybalion - Disentangling the Paradox

FULL DOCUMENTARY ARCHIVE @ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfSYKeRdvVE6NJduaAvJohGd3fcw7AnvA Viper TV Film Production. COPYRIGHT RESERVED. 1. Principle of Mentalism The Principle of Mentalism is the idea of everything – that the thought is always first. “All is mental”: When anyone of us applies their senses, he/she first forms a mental image of the target and after that, the physical image. The thought is before action, reaction, behavior or deed. Even a thought – no matter whether it is true or false – is the essence of a person, which psychology calls the identity. The universe is created in the mind of God and because we are able to think alike, man is an image of God. Universe is God’s identity and thus God is the All. 2. Principle of Correspondence The Principle of Correspondence embodies the idea that there is always a correspondence between the laws of phenomena of the various "planes" of being and life. As above, so below; as below, so above. This principle states that there is a harmony, agreement and correspondence between these planes, delineated as: 1) The Great Physical Plane, 2) The Great Mental Plane, and 3) The Great Spiritual Plane. (Kybalion) 3. Principle of Vibration The Principle of Vibration embodies the idea that motion is manifest in everything in the Universe, that nothing rests, and everything moves, vibrates, and circles. This principle explains that the differences between different manifestations of Matter, Energy, Mind, and even Spirit, are the result of only different "vibrations". The higher a person is on the scale, the higher the rate of vibration will be. Here, The All is said to be at an infinite level of vibration, almost to the point of being at rest. There are said to be millions upon millions of varying degrees between the highest level, The All, and the objects of the lowest vibration. Mental Transmutation is described as the practical application of this principle. To change one's mental state is to change vibration. One may do this by an effort of Will, by means of deliberately "fixing the attention" upon a more desirable state. (Kybalion) 4. Principle of Polarity The Principle of Polarity embodies the idea that everything is dual, everything has two poles, and everything has its opposite. All manifested things have two sides, two aspects, or two poles. Everything "is" and "isn't" at the same time, all truths are but half-truths and every truth is half false, there are two sides to everything, opposites are identical in nature, yet different in degree, extremes meet, and all paradoxes may be reconciled. (Kybalion) 5. Principle of Rhythm The Principle of Rhythm embodies the idea that in everything there is manifested a measured motion, a to and fro, a flow and inflow, a swing backward and forward, a pendulum-like movement. This principle explains that there is rhythm between every pair of opposites, or poles, and is closely related to the Principle of Polarity. It can be seen that this Principle enables transition from one pole to the other, and not necessarily poles of extreme opposites. (Kybalion) (Also musical rhythm, seasonal change, sin- and cos-curves in mathematics etc.) 6. Principle of Cause and Effect The Principle of Cause and Effect explains that there is a cause for every effect, and an effect for every cause. It also states that there is no such thing as chance, that chance is merely a term indicating extant causes not recognized or perceived. (Kybalion) Thus there is no Chaos in Cosmos, but only a lack of Knowledge. 7. Principle of Gender The Principle of Gender embodies the idea that gender is manifested in everything: everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles: Gender manifests on planes. The batteries have male and female poles, as do the Earth. (Kybalion) The mental gender of a person is not male or female, but rather seeks a balance all the time. The spiritual gender of a person is the key to self-illumination. The spiritual gender contains 1) masculine Knowledge (also Truth, eternal Father etc.), which is symbolized as Tree of Knowledge, and 2) feminine Life (also Cycle of Life, Cycle of Dharma, Mother Nature etc.), which is symbolized as Tree of Life. What is the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle? - Chad Orzel

View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/what-is-the-heisenberg-uncertainty-principle-chad-orzel The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle states that you can never simultaneously know the exact position and the exact speed of an object. Why not? Because everything in the universe behaves like both a particle and a wave at the same time. Chad Orzel navigates this complex concept of quantum physics. Definition: Russell's paradox

01:53
Russell's paradox is a standard way to show naïve set theory is flawed. Naïve set theory uses the comprehension principle. This states that 'given any property there exists a set containing all objects that have that property'. Russell's paradox demonstrates the looseness of this definition leads to a contradiction. Consider the set defined by the property: 'The set of all sets which don't contain themselves.' You will see in the video that this leads to a contradiction.

TEDxRC2 - Fiona Terry - The Paradox of Humanitarian Aid

10:08
Well-known author and long-time relief worker, Fiona Terry, has spent most of the last 20 years involved in humanitarian operations in different parts of the world including northern Iraq, Somalia, the Great Lakes region of Africa, Liberia, Sudan, Sierra Leone and Myanmar. Terry holds a Ph.D. in international relations and political science from the Australian National University. She is the author of "Condemned to Repeat? The Paradox of Humanitarian Action," which won the 2006 Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order. More recently, she has been teaching at Duke University in North Carolina. She's currently based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Through the prism of her long experience on the ground, Terry explores the virtues, challenges and responsibilities of providing neutral humanitarian aid in her TEDxRC² talk. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Even though Albert Einstein (together with collaborators in the EPR Paradox paper) wanted to show that quantum mechanics must be incomplete because it was nonlocal (he didn't like "spooky action at a distance"), John Bell managed to prove that any local real hidden variable theory would have to satisfy certain simple statistical properties that quantum mechanical experiments (and the theory that describes them) violate. Since then, GHZ and others have managed to extend the theoretical work, and Alain Aspect performed the first Bell test experiment in the late 1980s. Toroflux paradox: making things (dis)appear with math

24:23
Today is all about geometric appearing and vanishing paradoxes and that math that powers them. This video was inspired by a new paradox of this type that Bill Russel from Bakersfield, California discovered while playing with a toroflux. Other highlights to look forward to: a nice new visual proof of Cassini's Fibonacci identity which forms a core of a very nice Fibonacci based paradox, the classic Get-off-the-the-Earth puzzle, and much more. Here is the link to Daniel Walsh's blog post on the toroflux: http://danielwalsh.tumblr.com/post/20687530490/playing-with-a-flowing-torus As usual thank you very much to Marty for all his nitpicking, Michael for his help with filming the video and Danil for looking after the Russian subtitles. Today's t-shirt I got from here: https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/2138490-funny-this-fibonacci-joke-is-as-bad-as-the-last-tw The piece of music at the end is: English_Country_Garden from the free YouTube music library. There is a bit of a visual typo at 6:19: The pieces are fine but the grid in the background is not. Here is what it's supposed to look like http://www.qedcat.com/misc/8grid.png According to the the wiki page the inventor of the toroflux Jochen Valett who is German :) . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toroflux Enjoy! burkard

Dacher Keltner: "The Power Paradox: The Promise and Peril of 21st Century Power" | Talks at Google

56:16
For the past 20 years Dacher Keltner has studied human emotion, power, and the structure of human social life. Building upon hundreds of scientific findings, his work as a scientific consultant on Pixar's film "Inside Out", and work to improve the criminal justice system, this talk will detail five basic principles about human power that he captures in his new book, "The Power Paradox: How We Gain and Lose Influence." These ideas will answer timeless questions such as how we get power and why it so often unleashes sociopathic tendencies, and how power is dramatically changing in this 21st century (thanks in part to entities like Google). He will point to a future of more positive power, and ways to remedy the ills of power, such as inequality.

Singularity Principle (FULL MOVIE)

01:27:40
Synopsis: Singularity Principle is a feature length science-fiction film about the consequences of renegade experiments into Parallel Universes. Co-written and directed by Austin Hines and by physicist Dr. David Deranian, the film pays particular attention to accurate scientific detail and uses the fascinating science of parallel universes to bring audiences a story that will both illuminate and entertain. The story starts off with the disappearance of noted scientist Professor Jack Brenner (John Diehl) during a fateful parallel universe experiment. Jack's protege, Dr. Peter Tanning (Michael Denis) is being interrogated by Dr. Lawrence Cason (William B. Davis) of a clandestine Black-Ops Agency to learn about the experiment and to find out what happened to Jack Brenner. Lawrence makes it clear that he wants to know everything about the experiment, including how parallel universes can be manipulated. The story unfolds with Peter describing the events of the experiment up to the fateful day where Jack Brenner disappears. Lawrence pushes Peter relentlessly to tell what happened but also recounts his own past with Jack Brenner. This is all in an effort to persuade Peter to work for the Agency, continuing his research for the Agency's interests which involve controlling gateways to, and the people in, other universes. The filmmakers of Singularity Principle are excited to be working with Big Screen Entertainment Group for the promotion and distribution of this ground breaking science-fiction film on Parallel Universes.

What is the Holographic Principle?

03:00
When Stephen Hawking elegantly described the relationship of quantum mechanics with black holes, he inadvertently opened the door to a radical possibility: that our universe, as we know it, is like a hologram. Science historian Peter Galison and leading physicists Brian Greene and Cumrun Vafa explain how the resilient nature of information combined with the behavior of event horizons suggests that the three dimensions of reality we observe may in fact be a two-dimensional information structure "painted" on some sort of cosmological horizon. Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle Explained

04:12
Heisenberg's uncertainty principle tells us that it is impossible to simultaneously measure the position and momentum of a particle with infinite precision. In our everyday lives we virtually never come up against this limit, hence why it seems peculiar. In this experiment a laser is shone through a narrow slit onto a screen. As the slit is made narrower, the spot on the screen also becomes narrower. But at a certain point, the spot starts becoming wider. This is because the photons of light have been so localised at the slit that their horizontal momentum must become less well defined in order to satisfy Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. I based this video on one by Prof. Walter Lewin of MIT: http://bit.ly/100Wk2K Henry (MinutePhysics) has previously made a video about Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle where he treats it as less spooky and more a consequence of waves: http://bit.ly/TV3xO5 Sixty Symbols has a great video on Planck's constant: http://bit.ly/11upebY Thanks to the University of Sydney for hosting this experiment, especially to Tom and Ralph for their assistance getting it working. ⭐️ 6. The Divine Paradox * The Kybalion

18:51
The Kybalion was first published in1908 by the Yogi Publication Society and is based upon ancient Hermeticism, though many of its ideas are relatively modern concepts arising from the New Thought movement. The book early on makes the claim that it makes its appearance in one's life when the time is appropriate. The Seven Principles. Principle of Mentalism. The Principle of Mentalism embodies the idea that "The All is Mind, The Universe is Mental" Principle of Correspondence. The Principle of Correspondence embodies the idea that there is always a correspondence between the laws of phenomena of the various "planes" of being and life. As above, so below; as below, so above. This principle states that there is a harmony, agreement and correspondence between these planes, delineated as: The Great Physical Plane The Great Mental Plane The Great Spiritual Plane Principle of Vibration. The Principle of Vibration embodies the idea that motion is manifest in everything in the Universe, that nothing rests, and everything moves, vibrates, and circles. Principle of Polarity. The Principle of Polarity embodies the idea that everything is dual, everything has two poles, and everything has its opposite. All manifested things have two sides, two aspects, or two poles. Everything "is" and "isn't" at the same time, all truths are but half truths and every truth is half false, there are two sides to everything, opposites are identical in nature, yet different in degree, extremes meet, and all paradoxes may be reconciled.[9] Principle of Rhythm. The Principle of Rhythm embodies the idea that in everything there is manifested a measured motion, a to and fro, a flow and inflow, a swing backward and forward, a pendulum-like movement.[10] This principle explains that there is rhythm between every pair of opposites, or poles, and is closely related to the Principle of Polarity. It can be seen that this Principle enables transition from one pole to the other, and not necessarily poles of extreme opposites. Principle of Cause and Effect. The Principle of Cause and Effect explains that there is a cause for every effect, and an effect for every cause. It also states that there is no such thing as chance, that chance is merely a term indicating extant causes not recognised or perceived. The Principle is clarified in the chapter Causation. Principle of Gender. The Principle of Gender embodies the idea that gender is manifested in everything. The authors state that this does not relate explicitly to the commonly understood notion of sex, but rather "... to beget; to procreate, to generate, to create, or to produce..." in general. Gender is manifested as the Masculine and Feminine principles, and manifests itself on all planes. Mental Gender is described as a Hermetic concept which relates to the masculine and feminine principles. It does not refer to the physical gender of someone, nor does it suggest that someone of a certain physical gender necessarily has the same mental gender. Ideally, one wants to have a balanced mental gender. The concept put forth in The Kybalion states that gender exists on all planes of existence (Physical, Mental, and Spiritual), and represents different aspects on different planes. It is also stated that everything and everyone contains these two elements or principles. The Masculine principle is always in the direction of giving out or expressing, and contents itself with the "Will" in its varied phases. The Feminine principle is always in the direction of receiving impressions, and has a much more varied field of operation than the Masculine. The Masculine conducts the work of generating new thoughts, concepts, and ideas, including the work of the imagination.Must be a balance in these two forces. Without the Feminine, the Masculine is apt to act without restraint, order, or reason, resulting in chaos. The Feminine alone, on the other hand, is apt to constantly reflect and fail to actually do anything, resulting in stagnation. With both the Masculine and Feminine working in conjunction, there is thoughtful action that breeds success, which points out that both the Feminine and the Masculine fulfil each other.

The problem is simple: You can take Box A, which contains $1,000, *and* Box B, which contains either $0 or $1,000,000, or you can just take Box B. The right choice seems obvious -- but there’s a catch. Before you play, an omniscient being has predicted whether you’d take both Box A and Box B or *only* Box B. If he’s predicted that you’ll take both, he’s put $0 in Box B. If he predicts that you’ll only take Box B, he’s put $1,000,000 inside. So… what do you do? I explore the two approaches to this problem, one based on the math of expected utility and the other based on a logical dominance principle. Newcomb’s Paradox raises questions about free will and determinism as it explores whether a problem with no solution might be easier than a problem with two perfectly valid contradictory solutions. *** SOURCES *** “Newcomb's Problem And Two Principles Of Choice,” by Robert Nozick http://faculty.arts.ubc.ca/rjohns/nozick_newcomb.pdf Newcomb’s Paradox poll results from The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/science/alexs-adventures-in-numberland/2016/nov/30/newcombs-problem-which-side-won-the-guardians-philosophy-poll *** LINKS *** Grandayy Links YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/grandayy Twitter: https://twitter.com/grandayy Vsauce2 Links Twitter: https://twitter.com/VsauceTwo Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/VsauceTwo Hosted, Produced, And Edited by Kevin Lieber Instagram: http://instagram.com/kevlieber Twitter: https://twitter.com/kevleeb Research And Writing by Matthew Tabor https://twitter.com/matthewktabor Huge Thanks To Paula Lieber https://www.etsy.com/shop/Craftality Get Vsauce's favorite science and math toys delivered to your door! https://www.curiositybox.com/ Select Music By Jake Chudnow: http://www.youtube.com/user/JakeChudnow MY PODCAST -- THE CREATE UNKNOWN https://www.youtube.com/thecreateunknown

Paradox of Modern Management - biz-development.com

03:34
http://www.biz-development.com/PerformanceManagement/2.37.paradox-of-modern-management.htm The modern management in business is often in contradiction in its own principles. Modern companies declare principles of efficiency, organizational simplicity, lean resource management and cost efficiency. But in reality companies often act contradictory to the principles of lean, simplicity and efficiency. Administration, bureaucracy, bulky reporting and parallel "development„ structures are draining the net productivity of the company. Resources of the company are being spent on countless reports, analysis and investigation of trivial things.

The result of absolute gravitational collapse of a massive body: a point of hypothetical infinite density surrounded by an event horizon. At that horizon time is frozen and the fabric of space itself cascades inwards at the speed of light. Don’t get me wrong; the math is complicated. But the objects themselves are simple. In fact every black hole in the universe, no matter how it formed or what happened to it afterwards, can be perfectly described with only three properties. How do art and morality intersect? Today we look at an ethically questionable work of art and discuss R. G. Collingwood’s view that art is best when it helps us live better lives. We’ll go over Aristotle’s concept of catharsis and how it can resolve the problem of tragedy. We are also exploring the paradox of fiction and the debate between autonomism and moralism. Karl Popper, Science, & Pseudoscience: Crash Course Philosophy #8

08:57
The early 1900s was an amazing time for Western science, as Albert Einstein was developing his theories of relativity and psychology was born, as Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis took over the scientific mainstream. Karl Popper observed these developments firsthand and came to draw a distinction between what he referred to as science and pseudoscience, which might best be summarized as science disconfirms, while pseudoscience confirms. While the way we describe these disciplines has changed in the intervening years, Popper’s ideas speak to the heart of how we arrive at knowledge. -- PBS Digital Studios wants to get to know you better! Paradox Principle: Luke 6:27 - Just a Minute meditations

01:05
Paradox Principle: Luke 6:27 In Luke 6:27 we read, "but I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who spitefully use you. To those who would listen, He lays down some ground rules. Jesus asked the disciples to do four things to be set of people. Jesus takes for granted that as we live as Christians in this world there are going to be people who hate you, who curse you, who use you in ways you don't feel comfortable and who consider you as enemies. Jesus gives some principles to deal with them. He asks us to love them and bless them. These are things which are of the heart. No one sees them but it comes as an overflowing of the love of Christ in you. He gives us some actions to do as well. He tells us to do good to those people in return for the bad they are doing. What's more? He's asking us to love them to that extent, to pray for them. Pray for those who misuse you, who mistreat you and who are being spiteful towards you. Are there any such people around you towards whom you need to show the kingdom principles? May God enable you to love them bless them do good to them and pray for them. -Dr. John Website: http://borivaliassembly.net Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/assemblyatborivali Twitter: https://twitter.com/cba_borivali

Scott Diaz - The Paradox of Principles EP (Grand Plans)

00:31
Scott Diaz drops the third release on his newly-founded Grand Plans label this April bringing with him three fine slices of real deep house backed by a remix from Manchester's Studioheist. The UK born artist Scott Diaz began to make noise back in 2011 with early releases on his own Connected label. His garage-tinged grooves quickly found the now Philadelphia-based producer appearing on labels like Low Steppa's Simma Black and Jay-J's Shifted Music and Grant Nelson's Freeze Dried. This new EP on Scott's own Grand Plans label shows again the sincere talent the Brighton-born musician has running through his veins. We highly recommend his remix of Lovebird's anthem 'Want You In My Soul' or the very fine remix of Hardsoul's 'Back Together'. This new EP opens with 'Mistreated' a quick-hitting house shuffle that oozes with soulful piano improvisations, gospel styled vocals and rich string washes. From the off we know we're going love this. Next it 'Take It Back' is a more stripped back, deep house groove with stubborn drum lines flavoured by dusty Rhodes lines and glass percussive strikes. The vocals from KE steal the show though, reminiscing about dj and house movements in the early 90's that will strike a chord with older heads out there. There is also an instrumental version of this track included. 'I Sold My Soul' is a tasty jackin' groove that reminded us straight away of early Mood II Swing vibes like 'Do It Your Way'. Driven by delicious organ grooves and live sampled drum hits, this infectious sound is finished by a conversational vocal sample that intrigues and captures the mind. The duo of Andy Cain & Scott Lee aka Studioheist take on 'Mistreated' next taking the track on a more refined house journey that see's poignant piano stabs coupled with nice breakdowns and reworked drum and bass lines. This is seriously good. Overall this is dare we say one of the finest EP's we've heard in the last few weeks and we can't wait to see it land in the right hands to shine on dance floors worldwide. Release date is set for Friday 21 April 2017 via Grand Plans.

TU81: The Paradox of Masculinity with Guest Esther Perel

34:54
Source: https://www.spreaker.com/user/therapistuncensored/tu81-the-paradox-of-masculinity-with-gue Can men be BOTH Relational and Masculine?  It couldn't be a more important time for thoughtful, honest, and provocative discussion on what it means to be a man in today's culture.  Perel makes a case that men are both harmed by the existing power structures and perpetuate harm by the codes imposed on them by all of us. In 2018 there are many contentious ideas about masculinity and “the male code” including confusion by men about how to hold themselves out as safe and masculine during this time of #MeToo and Kavanaugh. Esther Perel, named by Oprah as one of the 100 Supersoul visionaries joins Therapist Uncensored’s hosts Ann Kelley and Sue Marriott in a daring discussion about the modern man at the precipice of historic mid-term elections in the United States.  Can women discuss this without "womensplaining" and what is the difference?  Well there certainly is...  Find out by hitting play! Perel also gives a glimpse into the backstory of her next Sessions Live event, the Masculinity Paradox  Second annual Sessions Live: "The Masculinity Paradox" sign up here. What is it - check it out below: Debates around patriarchy, gender equality, toxic masculinity, fatherhood and changing sexual dynamics surround us like fog, throwing us into an unusual time of transition, confusion and trouble. This one-day Sessions 2018 clinical event and workshop is built on the premise that if we support change in the emotional lives of men, it inevitably changes the lives of their partners. Drawing from psychology, trauma theory, family systems therapy, and anthropology, The Masculinity Paradox provides an essential multidisciplinary training on the current cultural crisis of gender relations -- and its unique potential to change and improve the lives of all.   Episode notes: 00-20:00 Perel discusses her interest in the topic of men as well as the ability to discuss others in general and encourages women to talk about masculinity and men to talk about femininity.  Perel previews what her “Sessions Live” events are like.  Perel reflects on under/over-representation in certain fields and how she can better provide a platform for unheard voices.  Perel’s definition of the modern man and modern masculinity as a win-or-lose mentality. Perel breaks down “the male code”. What are the pressures put on men in society and in relationships?  20:00-40:00  Expectations of change compared with ambivalence towards change. Emotional afflictions of women can be considered worse for men because society deems that they are not supposed to have these feelings.        Like this and want to hear more?  Join our email list here, subscribe to Tunes here or leave us a voicemail on our website just click the button on the right, we may read or play your review on air, please rate and review us on your favorite podcast player, it helps so much!! YOU ARE NOT GOD | The Divine Paradox (Documentary)

19:24
Are We Gods?...Not exactly ▼ ▽Help Fund This Channel on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/user?u=3120234&ty=h ▼ ▽ Merch 👕 https://teespring.com/stores/psychonaut-store In this short documentary / short film, we cover the divine paradox, natural law, THE ALL, spiritual traps and false teachers, and why we are living in the divine reality. Part I: THE ALL & Natural Law Part II: The Divine Paradox Part III: The False Prophets of "Non-duality" Part IV: This is the Divine Reality! *SPOILER ALERT* You are not God! This new age deception is a naive misinterpretation rooted in self denial that gets disguised as "non-duality". Just remember that duality is sacred, and is in fact ESSENTIAL for creation. Duality isn't some silly illusion made up by the human mind. Duality is what created the human mind in the first place. God is so far beyond our mortal minds. The very task of trying to understand God is but a fools errand that will lead you to chase your own tail until the end of time. That being said, what we can do is try to understand the Laws that have been put in place and do what we can with the level of our human understanding. I don't usually feel this strong about a philosophical position, but after experiencing some heavy falls because of certain spiritual traps, and observing others going down the solipsism route, I feel like it's almost my duty to at least share valuable knowledge I've learned on my journey. I think it's not only important to learn practical philosophies, but to learn about potential traps, since those are the ones that do the most damage. ESPECIALLY if you think it's for spiritual growth, Again, please do not take my word for it. Discover yourself what is true, and do the critical self-inquiry to weed out the bs. Many of the points in this documentary was borrowed from "The Kybalion" by the 3 Initiates. I highly recommend studying Hermeticism, as it will provide you with profound Truth and wisdom about Natural Law which is practical and verifiable. This is the real deal. The Efficiency Paradox | Niklas Modig | TEDxUmeå

18:49
During this lecture I will talk about something that I think is extremely interesting: What is efficiency? It is a term that everyone uses, but very few understand. I would argue that 98% of all organizations have an incorrect understanding of what “true” efficiency really is. We tend to over focus on individual and functional performance. We think that efficient “islands" is a good thing. The more we deliver the better! The problem is that research shows the exact opposite! The more we try to squeeze out from the different islands within our organization, the more inefficient the organization will be! So what is the conclusion? Being “busy” is BAD! We call this the efficiency paradox! During this lecture I will describe why this phenomena occurs and how we have to redefine our view on efficiency in order to deliver true customer satisfaction! I am an inspirational speaker, researcher and author. Since I was a kid I have always been striving to understand what excellence really is. What is the key behind high-performing individuals, teams or organizations? In 2006, I got an opportunity that no other researcher had been given before. I got full access to study the most efficient and productive organization in the world. I spent more than 2,000 hours inside the company studying their work patterns, routines and attitudes. Since then I have been travelling around the world speaking about my findings. I have been invited to speak in 29 different counties, and all in total I have given more than 800 lectures. My first book – This is Lean - just passed 200,000 copies sold, making it one of the most sold Lean books of all time. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
