----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Starting out with Python, Third Edition, Tony Gaddis Chapter 3 Programming Challenges -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Magic Dates The date June 10, 1960, is special because when it is written in the following format, the month times the day equals the year: 6/10/60 Design a program that asks the user to enter a month (in numeric form), a day, and a two- digit year. The program should then determine whether the month times the day equals the year. If so, it should display a message saying the date is magic. Otherwise, it should display a message saying the date is not magic. Starting out with Python. Third Edition. Elana Hashman - The Black Magic of Python Wheels - PyCon 2019

26:23
"Speaker: Elana Hashman If you’ve ever `pip install`ed a Python package with C extensions on Linux, it was probably a painful experience, having to download and install development headers for libraries you’ve never even heard of. Maybe you’ve given up on pip and have switched to Conda. But it doesn’t have to be this way! The Python Packaging Authority has been working hard to solve this problem with a new distribution format for compiled Python code, called “wheels.” In this talk, we’ll descend into the practice of PEPs 513 and 571: arcane scrolls that can equip Python developers with spells to pre-compile applications and libraries in a way that allows most Linux end users to run them directly. I’ll show you how to hex compiled artifacts and source code into the wheel format, harness application binary interfaces (ABIs) to use external libraries, brave the eldritch horrors of the dynamic linker, and bind these all together in the manylinux environment. Come learn to harness the black magic of Python wheels, and you too can spare your users pain… for a price. Slides can be found at: https://speakerdeck.com/pycon2019 and https://github.com/PyCon/2019-slides"

PyCon Canada 2015: https://2015.pycon.ca/en/schedule/33/ Talk Description: * My talk will start out with a brief explanation of what Jupyter is (the project formerly known as IPython Notebook) and how to launch it. * I will demo how to run a few lines of Python in Jupyter, and how to create text cells with Markdown and LaTeX. * I will then demo some of the built-in 'cell magic' extensions like running bash commands and displaying plots inline. * I will then show some additional off-the-shelf extensions like the SQL and Graphviz ones, and show how to export a notebook to web-based slides. * I will then show how one can build and use a useful new cell magic extension (an interactive HTTP client) in Python, using Jupyter's built-in web-based text editor.

Installation and Setup of Operating System (Raspbian) - Raspberry Pi and Python tutorials p.2

16:12
In this Raspberry Pi tutorial, we're going to install and setup our operating system, Raspbian Assuming you've got your board, and an SD card, you're ready to carry on. Being a full computer, the Raspberry Pi uses an Operating System. While you can run headless (from a command line, no desktop), you can also have a GUI desktop if you like. There are quite a few choices for Raspberry Pi operating systems, but most people choose Raspbian, which is a Debian-based operating system that is optimized specifically for the Raspberry pi. This operating system is also most likely to support other packages that you may already be familiar with from other Linux distributions, so it makes for a good starting OS. Denis Akhiyarov, Xavier Dupré - Python for NET or NET for Python

40:29
For long time .NET developers wanted to tap into the rich libraries from SciPy and PyData communities. Bridging .NET and CPython runtimes is the easiest approach to solving this problem. Python for .NET (pythonnet, Python.NET) makes this possible by wrapping CPython C-API from C# in .NET and Mono runtimes. This also allows two-way interoperability between both runtimes on Windows, Linux, and OSX (MacOS), and even Linux subsystem on Windows! This presentation is going to show how to use Python code from .NET and .NET assemblies from Python. Particular importance in Python.NET is given to installation options: Python wheels, conda and nuget binaries, docker images, and even distribution with WinPython. The deployment is also simplified with tools such as PyInstaller and cx_freeze. This presentation will show how to install and deploy Python.NET apps using these tools. In this talk we are going to show how to call numpy, scipy, pandas, matplotlib, sympy, and pyomo from .NET without much boilerplate code. The second part will show how to use .NET from Python, particularly C# magic cells (clrmagic) in ipython kernel with Jupyter Notebooks. The Python.NET tutorial was converted to Jupyter Notebook and C# code cells that are embedded within the same notebook. This presentation will show few demos with REPL experience both from C# and Python using IPython, scriptcs, and Visual Studio. All libraries used in this presentation are open-source and available on all major platforms. Python for .NET is a library developed since 2003, which "graduated" from Zope, moved to SourceForge and eventually to GitHub, where it became widely used and adopted. This talk will also demonstrate clrmagic - Jupyter extension, built on top of pythonnet and developed by authors of this presentation. Python.NET is built with a number of open-source technologies. It uses pycparser, ply, and clang (gcc and MSVC also work) for parsing internal CPython structures. .NET types are exposed to Python with Unmanaged Exports (DllExport) open-source "compiler" on Windows. On other platforms, C-API of Mono and CPython are used to "bootstrap" both runtimes. Python.NET is used by financial algorithmic trading platforms, engineering companies, and few open-source projects: QuantConnect Lean, pywebview, Pybee Beeware Toga cross-platform UI toolkit. Python.NET enables large .NET applications to embed numerical Python libraries without boilerplate code and without sacrificing for performance. www.pydata.org PyData is an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the United States. PyData provides a forum for the international community of users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. The global PyData network promotes discussion of best practices, new approaches, and emerging technologies for data management, processing, analytics, and visualization. PyData communities approach data science using many languages, including (but not limited to) Python, Julia, and R. PyData conferences aim to be accessible and community-driven, with novice to advanced level presentations. PyData tutorials and talks bring attendees the latest project features along with cutting-edge use cases.

Python Training | How to Install PyDev Plugin in Eclipse and How to Create a Simple PyDev Project

09:11
This Python Training from https://www.fireboxtraining.com/python demonstrates how to install the PyDev plugin for Eclipse, as well as create a Python class with a constructor and __str__ method. Hi, this is Julie Johnson with Firebox Training (https://www.fireboxtraining.com/). Today in this Python training video, I'm going to show you how to install PyDev which is a nice little plug in you can use with Eclipse used to develop Python programs. So I have right here is my Eclipse integrated development environment and the first thing we need to do to install PyDev is to go up to here to HELP and then Eclipse Marketplace. This just takes a moment and we're going to perform a little quick search here in the find box and I'll type in PyDev and then hit the search button. So you see here is the PyDev, Python IDE for eclipse and so we just hit the install button right here. We've got a couple choices here, we have PyDev for Eclipse and then we have extra Python Mylyn Integration. I really just want basic support for Python so I'll just hit Python for Eclipse and then I'll hit next. Okay here's the license agreement; quickly read through all of this and then accepted license terms and then hit finish. It'll just take a minute or two it to install you know depending on how fast your network connection is. And once it's finished installing you're going to have to restart Eclipse. Now this popped up right here "do we trust these certificates" go ahead and check this and say okay. Now we need to restart Eclipse for the changes to take effect. Go ahead and say "yes". Now I'm going to go to file new and you'll see that it says here no applicable items. You may or may not have this kind of behavior, but in case you do all you need to do is go to the default perspective. Remember perspective is just the collection of windows that's visible in your Eclipse environment it also controls what kind of projects you have access to. So it looks like I don't have any perspectives opened. So I can just go to my window here and say OPEN PERSPECTIVE and then OTHER. For right now I'll just say, oh here we go here is my PyDev Perspective, I can make that the opened one. Now here we have our PyDev Package Explorer. Now there are other windows to choose from, you'll see here that I can go to Window, Show View and we have all these other windows to choose from here. Okay so if i want to open up the console to see output from my programs I can do that. So I'm going to just create a real quick Python program, just go up to FILE, New. I'll create a PyDev project. I will just call this "First Python Project." I'm going to click on this link here to configure the interpreter that I have and I just so happen to have Python 2.7 installed directly on my C drive so it looks like it's already there, but if for some reason this is blank here you can always go to NEW and point to it. Okay so i can just hit cancel here. I'm going to stick with all the defaults on this page here and just hit finish. So here it is my project and this will automatically show up in here, I can actually collapse this. Inside of my project I'd like to create a Python class. So I can right click on here and I'll say NEW and I'll say PyDev module. I'm going to call this package "com dot firebox training" and I'm going to call the name of my class, I'll make this the Person class and I'll hit finish. Now there are all these other templates in there too. You can play around with that too so you know what the templates contain. This is just a request for you to donate and I'm just going to X out of here for now. Here we have our skeleton code. So I'm just going to create a new class that is called PERSON. It's a subclass of object. I have a Constructor so you'll see here that the IDE here automatically auto completes when I am creating functions in here. So if I want my Constructor to take a first name and last name, I can do that and I have default values of empty strings. Self simply refers to the object itself that's getting instantiated, so SELF.firstname equals first name. Okay so this has to do the attributes of the object itself this is the local variable that's getting pasted in right here. Okay I will demonstrate on more thing here I am going to show you how to create a Magic String Function which returns a string representation of our person. So in here I'm going to say return self.firstname plus a literal space plus self.lastname. Now if I wanted to provide Getters and Setters I could, but I am keeping this really simple right now. So if I wanted to now test this, I could do that by instantiating a person object like this and even though it looks like there's three arguments, really I'm going to be passing in two pieces of information because this first argument refers to the object itself that's being instantiated. Now I'm going to now print out P and we're going to now run this.
