I visited the beautiful city of Cannes in the south of France a few years ago for a day. I took a trip on the little train of Suquet to visit the historic centre of Cannes. These are a few clips of video footage i took while there. Cannes is a city located in the French Riviera. It is a busy tourist destination and host of the annual Cannes Film Festival. It is a commune of France located in the Alpes-Maritimes department. The city is also famous for its various luxury shops, restaurants, and hotels. On 3 November 2011 it played host to the G20 organisation of industrialised nations. Cannes has a Mediterranean climate and the city enjoys 12 hours of sunshine per day during summer (May to September), while in winter (December to February) the weather is mild. Both seasons see a relatively low rainfall and most rain is during October and November, when 110 mm falls. Cannes summers are long and warm, with summer daytime temperatures regularly hitting 30 °C (86 °F), while average temperatures are about 25 °C (77 °F). Temperatures remain high from June to September, the busiest time of the year. Despite the hot daytime temperatures, a Mediterranean breeze keeps summer evenings comfortably cool. Temperatures drop below 10 °C (50 °F) for only three months of the year (December to February). The spring and autumn are also warm, although more suited to those who prefer slightly cooler weather. Landmarks The Promenade de la Croisette is the waterfront avenue with palm trees. La Croisette is known for picturesque beaches and for restaurants, cafés and boutiques. La Suquet, the old town, provides a good view of La Croisette. The fortified tower and Chapel of St Anne house the Musée de la Castre. The Man in the Iron Mask was imprisoned on the Île Sainte-Marguerite. Museums The Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Provence houses artifacts from prehistoric to present, in an 18th century mansion. The Musée de la Castre has objects from the Pacific Atolls, Peruvian relics and Mayan pottery. Other venues include the Musée de la Marine, Musée de la Mer, Musée de la Photographie and Musée International de la Parfumerie. The villas of Cannes Nineteenth-century Cannes can still be seen in its grand villas, built to reflect the wealth and standing of their owners and inspired by anything from medieval castles to Roman villas. Lord Brougham's Italianate Villa Eléonore Louise (one of the first in Cannes) was built between 1835 and 1839. Also known as the Quartier des Anglais, this is the oldest residential area in Cannes. Another landmark is the Villa Fiésole (known today as the Villa Domergue) designed by Jean-Gabriel Domergue in the style of Fiesole, near Florence. The villas are not open to the public. Villa Domergue may be visited on appointment.

Cros de Cagnes in Cagnes-sur-Mer, French Riviera

04:10
Cagnes-sur-Mer coastline covers 3,5 kilometres of long pebbled beach. It is these pebbles that give the Mediterranean Sea its deep shade of blue. The water temperature is so mild, that it is possible to bathe in the sea all year round ! The six new private beaches offer the additional high-quality services : restaurants, sun-bed rental, parasols... The Cros-de-Cagnes is, first of all, a recreational seaside resort offering relaxation, beach activities, water sports (to practice all year round) and a wide range of welcoming local shops and restaurants. Originally an artisan fishing village, Cros-de-Cagnes evolved into a modern seaside resort dedicated to sea-lovers. Even though today water-based recreation is its primary attraction, the fishing tradition is still alive. The modernity mixes up with tradition around the picturesque fishing port, the yellow ochre couloured chapel, the "pointu" boats, along the streets named after flowers and St Pierre's square with its "boules" players. The road along the seashore has been completely renovated and the new "Promenade de la Plage" has been a total success - a place to discover and enjoy. Despite the evolution of the « village like state of mind », the Cros-de-Cagnes kept its traditions and famous fishing port. The village is now characterised by its juxtaposition of modernity and traditions. The Ancient port is being kept as it has always been but the nautical activities practicable all year long, beaches restaurants and commercial activities bring dynamism and modernity to this historical place. Cagnes-sur-Mer on Ranskan kaakkoisosassa Välimeren rannalla sijaitseva kunta. Ranskan Rivieraan kuuluvasta Cagnes-sur-Meristä on matkaa Nizzan kaupungin keskustaan noin 15 kilometriä. Noin 50 000 asukkaan Cagnes-sur-Mer on tunnettu eri alojen taiteilijoiden suosimana paikkana. Heitä on kaupungissa asunut 1900-luvun alkuvuosista lähtien, jolloin ranskalainen taidemaalari Pierre-Auguste Renoir muutti Cagnes-sur-Meriin viimeisiksi elinvuosikseen. Lisäksi kaupungissa on vaikuttanut useita amerikkalaisia kirjailijoita. Nykyään kaupungissa asuu muun muassa suomalainen taiteilija Johanna Oras.
Visualising Plastic In the Mediterranean

01:28
Like many of us, Project Everyone are concerned about plastic in our oceans. They needed an animation that would bring the scale of the problem home to an audience at Cannes Lions Festival 2018. Instead of using a modelling of waste or 'litter' itself we chose to use a 'duck' as a friendly unit of plastic, and one just about everyone has experience of handling, which makes it useful for physical insight. The film gives a sense of the rate we are adding plastic to the sea in real-time and in a day. On average, 170 ducks a second - all day, every day. We spaced the ducks so that a day's plastic litter fits neatly in the bay. Viewers can combine a close-up view that provides a sense of the density of ducks with a sense of a familiar area. Real-time, combined with area per day, gives two different insights of making sense of the rate of plastic waste. A large stretch of Europe's Atlantic coastline was hit by high tides, including Portugal and the Spanish region of Galicia. At least one person is now known to have died in Spain with two others still unaccounted for. Sailing USA to Bermuda - HR54 Cloudy Bay, Nov 2018

43:38
After being weather bound in Norfolk VA for 8 days, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) left Norfolk on the tail end of yet another large weather system. Sailing to Bermuda started on a bright but cold November day, with strong offshore winds over a flat sea. So we sailed very fast down the Virginia coast, passed Kitty Hawk, and out into the Atlantic. We were among several other yachts all making the same break-for-it southwards, in this weather window. Crossing the Gulf Stream was a bit lumpy but thankfully with lighter following winds. We watched the water temperature rise from 15DegC to 26DegC in just a few hours. We could then pack our thermal jackets and wooly hats away in a very deep locker! After 8 hours of motor sailing the wind came around in front of us and put us hard on the wind for the rest of the trip, excepting the last afternoon where we had a beam reach into the island. Arriving just after dark, we edged our way through the town cut to St. George’s, where we cleared customs then tied up on the town dock …. and slept! 16-20 Nov2018 To better understand the storyline of the video, we invite you to read our daily articles on the blog:Day 1 – https://www.sailcloudybay.com/leaving-norfolk-va-and-usa/ Day 2 – https://www.sailcloudybay.com/day-2-sailing-into-summer/ Day 3 – https://www.sailcloudybay.com/day-3-to-bermuda-sailing-hard-on-the-wind-and-waves/ Day 4 - https://www.sailcloudybay.com/day-4-to-bermuda/ Day 5 - https://www.sailcloudybay.com/day-5-arriving-at-st-georges/

First heatwave advisory issued in Seoul, most regions suffer hot weather on Friday

01:40
서울 올해 첫 폭염주의보 발령...낮 동안 오존도 주의 It seems summer has come early here in Korea, with this year's first heatwave advisory being issued for Seoul today. Many southern regions are also suffering under scorching conditions coupled with high ozone levels. Yoon Jung-min starts us off. Most regions in South Korea, particularly the capital Seoul, experienced high temperatures and bad levels of ozone during the daytime on Friday. A heatwave advisory was issued in the capital for the first time this year with temperatures soaring to 33 degrees Celsius. Ozone advisories were issued in all 25 of Seoul's districts. "It's so hot and hard to walk along the street." "It's unexpectedly hot, which makes me sweat and get tired even after a short walk." "Korea is having unusually high temperatures for May and bad ozone levels. Many citizens are wearing short-sleeved tops and even carrying parasols to keep them out of the sun." Most other parts of the country also experienced scorching weather, including Gyeonggi-do Province, southern regions of Gyeongsang-do Province, Jeolla-do Province, and eastern Gangwon-do Province. The Korea Meteorological Administration issues heatwave advisories when daily highs above 33 degrees Celsius are expected to last for more than two consecutive days. There were also high levels of fine dust across the country. High temperatures are expected to linger until this weekend. The weather agency advised citizens, especially children and the elderly, to stay indoors to avoid the heat and bad ozone levels. Yoon Jung-min, Arirang News. The arctic blast which is spreading south and towards the east is threatening lives, forcing businesses and schools to close and sending electricity and oil consumption soaring. Medics are warning that the dangers of subzero temperatures go well beyond frost bite. "So frostbite, obviously, we're worried about skin: fingers, toes, ears, noses, that kind of thing. But being out in the cold temperature, letting the core temperature fall, can actually be life threatening; can stop one's heart, it can stop one's breathing, and lead to death," warned Dr. Ryan fey of Hennepin County Medical Centre. 12 volt hot water system for boats - Sailing A B Sea (Ep.072)

In this episode of Sailing A B Sea we are one of five lucky yachts chosen by Green Yachting to receive a Solar Green package which is a 12 volt hot water heater for boats. In exchange for the 12 volt hot water heater for boats we were asked to make a video about our complete installation process. If we'd had the right tools on board and discounting the time taken to have the electrical cables cut and connections fitted we estimate that the complete installation of the 12 volt hot water heater for boats would have taken approximately 4 hours. #SailingABSea https://www.green-yachting.online/ https://www.green-yachting.online/shop-1 The information contained in this video is for general information purposes only and we make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the completeness, accuracy, reliability, suitability or availability with respect to the products, services, or related graphics contained within the video for any purpose. Toulon, Var, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France, Europe

01:03
Toulon is a city in southern France and a large military harbour on the Mediterranean coast, with a major French naval base. Located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region, Toulon is the capital of the Var department in the former province of Provence. The Commune of Toulon has a population of 165,514 people (2009), making it the fifteenth-largest city in France. It is the centre of an urban area with 559,421 inhabitants (2008), the ninth largest in France. Toulon is the fourth-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast after Marseille, Nice and Montpellier. Toulon is an important centre for naval construction, fishing, wine making, and the manufacture of aeronautical equipment, armaments, maps, paper, tobacco, printing, shoes, and electronic equipment. The military port of Toulon is the major naval centre on France's Mediterranean coast, home of the French Navy aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle and her battle group. The French Mediterranean Fleet is based in Toulon. During World War II, after the Allied landings in North Africa (Operation Torch) the German Army occupied southern France (Case Anton), leading to the scuttling of the French Fleet at Toulon (27 November 1942). The city was bombed by the Allies in November of the following year, with much of the port destroyed and five hundred residents killed. Toulon was captured by the Free French Forces of General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny on 28 August 1944. In 1974 Toulon became again the préfecture, or administrative centre, of the Var. Five years later the University of Toulon opened. Toulon was one of four French cities where the extreme-right Front National won the local elections in 1995. The Front National was voted out of power in 2001. The old town of Toulon, the historic centre located between the port, the Boulevard de Strasbourg and the Cours Lafayette, is a pedestrian area with narrow streets, small squares and many fountains. Toulon Cathedral is located here. The area is also home of the celebrated Provençal market which takes place every morning on the Cours Lafayette, which features local products. The old town had decayed in the 1980s and 1990s, but recently many of the fountains and squares have been restored, and many new shops have opened. The Old Town of Toulon is known for its fountains, found in many of the small squares, each with a different character. The original system of fountains was built in the late 17th century; most were rebuilt in the eighteenth or early 19th century, and have recently been restored. Mount Faron (584 metres) dominates the city of Toulon. The top can be reached either by a cable car from Toulon, or by a narrow and terrifying road which ascends from the west side and descends on the east side. The road is one of the most challenging stages of the annual Paris–Nice and Tour Méditerranéen bicycle races. At the top of Mount Faron is a memorial dedicated to the 1944 Allied landings in Provence (Operation Dragoon), and to the liberation of Toulon. Beginning in 1678, Vauban constructed an elaborate system of fortifications around Toulon. Some parts, such as the section that once ran along the present-day Boulevard de Strasbourg, were removed in the mid-19th century, so the city could be enlarged, but other parts remain. One part that can be visited is the Porte d'Italie, one of the old city gates. Napoleon Bonaparte departed on his triumphant Italian campaign from this gate in 1796. Toulon has a Mediterranean climate, characterised by abundant and strong sunshine, dry summers, and rain which is rare but sometimes torrential; and by hot summers and mild winters. Because of its proximity to the sea, the temperature is relatively moderate. The average temperature in January, the coldest month, is 9.3 °C (49 °F), the warmest of any city in metropolitan France. In January the maximum average temperature is 12.7 °C (55 °F). and the average minimum temperature is 5.8 °C (42 °F). The average temperature in July, the warmest month, is 23.9 °C (75 °F)., with an average maximum of 29.1 °C (84 °F). and an average minimal temperature of 18.8 °C (66 °F). According to data collected by Météo-France, Toulon is the city in metropolitan France with the most sunshine per year: an average of 2,856 hours a year from 1999 to 2008, compared with 2,695 hours a year for Nice and 2,472 hours for Perpignan. The reason is the wall of mountains that largely protects Toulon from the weather coming from north. Average rainfall is 665 millimetres per year. The driest month is July with 6.6 mm (0.26 in)., and the wettest is October, with 93.9 mm (3.70 in). It rains on less than 60 days per year (an average of 59.7 days) and the amount of precipitation is very unequal in the different seasons.

Cannes - Royal Regatta

03:20
Cannes is one of the most beautiful and glamorous cities at the French Mediterranean coastline. In 1850 Cannes was only a small fisher village, but today it is one of the most important places of jetset. Today Cannes is also famous for its film festival but also for other events, like the royal regatta once a year. During a visit you can easily get into a hotel, but to feel the atmosphere of the real Cannes you better should rent a holiday home or apartment in Cannes or the beautiful surrounding. Cannes combines the typical “Savoir vivre”, that means have a good time, and the modern requirements of upper-class entertainment. The climate is dominated by its location close to the sea and for sailors this can become a challenge to handle the “Scirocco” and similar fall winds resulting from this special location. All over the year you can find moderate temperatures of 15°C in average. The beach, the boulevards and the shopping miles are also a magnet for tourists from all over the world. Especially the “Boulevard de la Croisette” is famous and this catwalk is 2 kilometers long. Cannes is directly connected to the TGV net of the French railroad but can also be reached by plane. Another highlight beneath all these film events is the graveyard. It is made like a park and definitely one of the most beautiful graveyards in Europe nad it is in the middle of this astonishing city. But this park or graveyard is also important for the city, because it offers a cool place for recovery and it is the biggest park within a city in France. Google Exec Dies In Accident At Cannes Festival

00:52
A Google executive died in an accident during Cannes Festival, an ongoing weeklong event. Google has declined to release the executive's name or details of the incident out of respect for the family, which is traveling to France. A spokesperson for Google told The Guardian, which was first to report the news, "Business Insider reports the executive was a man who worked on Google's marketing team. We lost a loved and respected member of our team." This marks the second unexpected death of a Google executive. Dan Fredinburg, an adventurous spirit and head of privacy for Google X, died after an avalanche on Mount Everest caused by a devastating earthquake in Nepal in late April. http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/Jy6wnh0sAgI/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Sailing Argo Ep 19 - Beautiful and cold Easter sailing

08:29
Sailing in Northern Norway is the number one activity for us, Marena and Roger Leivseth. We love our Argo, which is a German built Bavaria 31 Cruiser, 2008. Sailing is giving us rest, peace and energy. In these beautiful surroundings it is always a pleasure to take our beloved sailboat out for a cruise. We live up north in Norway, in Fauske, just north of the Arctic circle close to the Lofoten Islands. We experience the midnight sun during summers and polar nights during the winters. Our sailing season usually starts in the end of March due to the polar nights and temperatures way below freezing during winter. We normally end the sailing season in October for the same reasons. We are very fortunate to live in these surroundings with the love for sailing. The nearby areas are lovely places to visit, both fjords, archipelagos and islands in open sea. Hopefully you want to follow along our journey so that you can experience the northern parts of Norway through our videos :-) Subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRAS2FLydKqiLDYtluePwBw? Meet Jose - Oxfam - YouTube Cannes Young Lions 48hr Ad Contest

00:58
This video has been made for Oxfam GB as part of the YouTube Cannes Young Lions Ad Contest. Please follow on twitter for updates on the life of José http://twitter.com/meetjose Meet Jose...from Honduras. He is one of the millions of people living in developing nations that are affected by climate change each year. Please sign up here: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/climateaction Let's pull together to make our voices heard and convince global leaders to take action on climate change. What outcome are we looking for from the Copenhagen Summit? Basically, two things: cuts in emissions; and cash to help poor countries. Global CO2 emissions must fall at least 80 per cent below 1990 levels by 2050. If emissions are not cut fast enough, and global warming is allowed to exceed 2°C (the average temperature has already risen by almost 0.8°C), the impact on water resources, food production, sea levels, and ecosystems is predicted to be catastrophic for millions of people. Scary stuff, to put it mildly.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Oliver Stone, Christoph Waltz attend premiere for the new HBO documentary 'Ice on

03:01
(6 Jun 2019) DICAPRIO ATTENDS LA PREMIERE FOR HBO DOCUMENTARY 'ICE ON FIRE' Leonard DiCaprio and several other famous faces attended the LA HBO premiere for the environmental documentary "Ice on Fire" Wednesday night (5 JUNE 2019). Director Oliver Stone and actors Christoph Waltz, Minnie Driver, Scott Eastwood and Tyrese Gibson were all spotted supporting the new climate change movie produced and narrated by DiCaprio. DiCaprio's father, George DiCaprio, served as one of the movie's executive producers and was all smiles at the event. The documentary is directed by Leila Conners, who first collaborated with DiCaprio on "The 11th Hour."  "Ice on Fire" focuses on the advanced research behind today's climate science and suggests ways to actually reduce the existing carbon in the atmosphere, paving the way for a reduction in the global temperature rise. DiCaprio has produced several documentaries about climate change and the environment in recent years.  Earlier this year, he worked on "Sea of Shadows," about the world's smallest whale.  Before that his previous projects include "Before the Flood," "A Plastic Ocean" and "Virunga." "Ice on Fire" premieres June 11th on HBO. The Ethics of luxury jewellery and watches uncovered: Part 1

04:10
Ethics and sustainability are increasingly important in the world of luxury watches and jewellery. The Jewellery Editor team travelled to Baselworld 2016 to find out which brands are trying to make a difference. Read more: http://ow.ly/ohqo300jM1l One of the highlights at Baselworld was the arrival of Muzo Emerald Colombia. Muzo emeralds are not of course new, they have been prized for centuries, first by the Muzo tribe and, later, by Mughal emperors, Renaissance queens and Ottoman sultans. But this year, the famous Muzo Emerald brand launched at Baselworld under new American ownership. The new management is determined to be known not just for its vibrant green emeralds, but also for operating a modern mining operation in Colombia with an ethical approach. Jason Woods, head of marketing at Muzo Emerald Colombia, says: “We take great care of the mining community and their families. They get paid fair wages, they have health insurance, they pay taxes to the Colombian Government, and become productive citizens of society.” And to offer traceability, each stone comes with its own certificate, as Jason Woods explains: “Our clients want to know that if they are buying from Muzo, they are buying a stone that is responsibly sourced. We pride ourselves on the fact that it meets all the ethical standards that we have set ourselves.” Gemfields has established itself as the world’s largest coloured gemstone producer and is committed to making transparent every step of the gemstone-extraction process, while protecting the local communities and natural landscape in which it operates. In a world where the supply chain is often murky and convoluted, this mine-to-market traceability is something to be celebrated. Sister company Fabergé uses a Gemfield Zambian emerald in its new watch and, at its unveiling, Sean Gilbertson, executive director of Gemfields, told us: “I think without a shadow of doubt that Gemfields has been the pioneer in bringing about a whole new level of transparency and professionalism to the coloured gemstone business. I have no hesitation that the future of the industry is based around an understanding of where the metals and gemstones come from.” If you’re looking for the most natural of ethical jewellery, look no further than the pearl. Pearls are a reliable barometer of conditions at sea - the slightest fluctuations in water temperature, pollution levels or an imbalance in the eco-system can be catastrophic, so it is in a pearl farmer’s best interests to leave no trace. “The pearl industry can only survive in a pristine environment as there is no other way for the oyster to be,” says Rosario Autore, founder of Australian pearl company Autore. “The environment is key, this hasn’t changed for millions of years, and the reason that Broome (where Autore has a pearl farm) is such a productive area is because it is a pristine environment with no pollution whatsoever.” Chopard was the first to make ethical jewellery from Fairmined gold when, in 2013, it launched a diamond cuff and earrings in an initiative supported and worn on the red carpet by the likes of Cate Blanchett and Marion Cotillard. Caroline Scheufele, co-president of Chopard, explains: “This is the beginning of a long journey as I think aesthetics can be ethical.” Expect to hear more on the Green Carpet project from Chopard as the Cannes Film Festival gets underway. These may be small steps but changes are afoot and I hope that we will live to see the jewellery and watch industry transformed into a shining example of ethics, sustainability and social responsibility.
