The Complete "One Ocean" Shamu Show at SeaWorld (voted best on YouTube)

20:48
The complete "One Ocean" Shamu killer whale show One Ocean at SeaWorld San Diego. June 2017 SeaWorld San Diego has now replaced "One Ocean" with a new Orca show, Orca Encounter. Park officials said it’s more educational than theatrical when compared to the previous orca show, One Ocean. “The way they've trained them was very interesting,” said Linda Beckwith, who watched the show. One Ocean was discontinued earlier this year after a documentary film criticized the park’s treatment of captive orcas. SeaWorld Trainers in the Water with Killer Whales (The Complete 2009 Shamu "Believe" Show)

21:39
This is a previous SeaWorld Shamu show called "Believe" I filmed at SeaWorld San Diego, California on March 3, 2009. This video is dedicated to Dawn Brancheau an experienced female trainer who, on February 24, 2010, drowned at SeaWorld Orlando by the orca "Tilikum". Following this event, trainers no longer go into the water with the orcas at SeaWorld parks shows. Tilikum was the subject of the controversial film Blackfish. #Blackfish. 10 MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN CREATURES IN THE WORLD

10:17
10 Most Dangerous Water Animals In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] There are many different types of creatures that live in streams, lakes, seas and oceans. And while many of these creatures are harmless, there are many that are incredibly dangerous if you happen to have an encounter with them. These dangerous animals lurk beneath the surface of the water in a world vastly different than ours, and must be deadly to survive. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the most dangerous water creatures. 10. Australian Box Jellyfish – This creature is not one to be messed around with if you happen to swim into a swarm of them. And while they may seem harmless, the Australian box jellyfish is considered to be the most venomous marine animal in the world. They have tentacles that are covered with tiny darts called nematocysts, and they are loaded with poison. 9. Flower Urchin – Beautiful but deadly, these sea urchins are extremely venomous. They look like a bouquet of small flowers; to which they get their name from. They feed on invertebrates, sponges, and dead fish, and have well developed jaws for grinding up their prey. 8. The Saltwater Crocodile – Evolving around 200 million years in the Mesozoic epoch, crocodiles have far outlived the dinosaurs. The Salt water crocodile is the world’s largest reptile, and they have been known to grow up to 27 feet long and weigh 2,465 lbs. 7. Textile Cone Snail – Mother nature teaches us that anything in nature that is beautiful, is most likely deadly, and a warning to predators and humans to not touch or disturb them. This holds true for the Textile Cone Snail. 6. The Sea Snake – These highly venomous marine snakes are closely related and belong to the same family as the cobra. There are two independently evolved groups: the true sea snakes which are related to Australian terrestrial elapids, and the sea kraits which are related to Asian cobras. 5. The Lionfish – Lionfish are skilled hunters, using specialized bilateral swim bladder muscles to provide exquisite control of location in the water column, allowing the fish to alter its center of gravity to better attack prey. The lionfish then spreads its large pectoral fins and swallows its prey in a single motion. 4. The Stingray – Stingrays are a group of rays, which are cartilaginous fish related to sharks, and are one of the oceans deadliest creatures. Most stingrays have one or more barbed stingers on their tails, which are used exclusively for self-defense. 3. Blue-Ringed Octopus – This octopus has some of the most striking colors of any ocean creature. They get their name from the brightly blue colored rings on its body. 2. Needlefish – These strange looking creatures are very slender, and have a single dorsal fin, placed far back on the body. Needlefish are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 37 mph. Since Needlefish swim near the surface, they often leap over the decks of shallow boats rather than going around. 1. The Moray Eel - Most attacks stem from disruption of a moray's burrow to which they react strongly, but an increasing number of accidents also occur during hand feeding of morays by divers, an activity often used by dive companies to attract tourists.

How Deep Is the Ocean In Reality?

17:26
A whopping 94% of all life-forms on Earth are aquatic. Such a huge number of living beings who can't survive without water is understandable. After all, more than 70% of our planet's surface is covered with water. The World Ocean includes the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean. There's enough water in the oceans to fill a 685-mile-long bathtub! One of the main nagging questions people have been asking for ages is "How deep is the ocean in reality?" Let’s find an answer to it. TIMESTAMPS Sunlit zone 1:21 Twilight zone 6:17 Midnight zone 10:19 The abyss 13:17 Trench zone 14:25 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -The Sunlit zone stretches from 14.5 ft, that is is the depth of a standard Olympic diving pool, to 561 ft under the water’s surface, where RMS Carpathia found her last dwelling. This ship became famous after her participation in the rescue of the Titanic survivors. -At 656 ft, the twilight zone begins. That's where you can see the giant oarfish. At a depth of 1,453 ft, you could reach the height of the Empire State Building if somebody powerful enough decided to submerge it under the water. The giant squid lives as deep as 2,952 ft below the surface. This is where the Twilight zone ends. -At a depth of 3,608 ft, there's the deepest volcano recorded by scientists. At 12,795 ft below the water’s surface, there are Air France flight 447 black boxes. Airbus A330 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 2009. This is where the Midnight zone ends. -At a depth of 13,123 ft, the midnight zone ends, and the abyss lies ahead. 18,897 ft is the bottom of the abyss and the depth at which you can find the deepest shipwreck. SS Rio Grande sunk in 1941 in the South Atlantic and was discovered only in 1996. -At a depth of 19,685 ft, the abyss ends and gives way to the trench zone. At a depth of 36,070 ft, you will reach the very bottom of the ocean in its deepest point known to man: Challenger Deep. Happy 14th Birthday, Nakai! (Seen during One Ocean at SeaWorld San Diego)

Nakai had a birthday celebration during One Ocean as he soloed Side by Side and was presented with ice and jello treats afterwards, which he also shared with Shouka, Ikaika, Corky, and Keet! Shout out to my friend Nate who helped me film this as I took pictures! You might notice a cake the trainers were unable to pop out in the video. They got it out after the show and gave it to Nakai, Ikaika, and Shouka! This is an educational killer whale show geared towards visiting school groups that usually happens on certain weekdays at the earliest Shamu show but any guests are welcome to sit in. I think this show is a little better for schoolkids than San Diego's version which I uploaded a few weeks ago. This particular show was a bit of a hot mess (see highlights below for why) but it was a refreshing break from One Ocean and fun to watch anyway! 1:25 - Katina, Makaio, Nalani bows 3:28 - Poor kid gets stage fright 7:50 - Kayla lined up with the stage showing the length of a blue whale 8:12 - Not the best fast swims 10:03 - Nalani thrash slideout 12:00 - All orcas splashing at slideout 13:55 - Makaio and Katina side breaches 14:55 - All orcas pod swim 16:35 - Kayla and Malia high jump and Makaio and Katina center bow 17:24 - Nalani and Kayla bail out of a front flip 18:22 - Katina, Nalani, and Makaio slideout Kayla, Katina, Nalani, Makaio, Trua, and Malia (Killer Whales) at SeaWorld Orlando on 1/27/17. Learn 5 Oceans of the Earth ~ Quick Guide

02:06
Please see my POPULAR ENGLISH WORDS playlist http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-rmNKGsfF5XEUWvibWVk9lhhWciGFRpr The surface of the planet is approximately 71% water and contains (5) five oceans, including the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, Pacific and Southern. An ocean (from Ancient Greek Ὠκεανός (Okeanos); the World Ocean of classical antiquity[1]) is a body of saline water that composes much of a planet's hydrosphere.[2] On Earth, an ocean is one or all of the major divisions of the planet's World Ocean -- which are, in descending order of area, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern (Antarctic), and Arctic Oceans.[3][4] The word sea is often used interchangeably with "ocean" in American English but, strictly speaking, a sea is a body of saline water (generally a division of the World Ocean) that land partly or fully encloses.[5] Earth is the only planet that is known to have an ocean (or any large amounts of open liquid water). Saline water covers approximately 72% of the planet's surface (~3.6x108 km2) and is customarily divided into several principal oceans and smaller seas, with the ocean covering approximately 71% of the Earth's surface.[6] The ocean contains 97% of the Earth's water, and oceanographers have stated that only 5% of the World Ocean has been explored.[6] The total volume is approximately 1.3 billion cubic kilometres (310 million cu mi)[7] with an average depth of 3,682 metres (12,080 ft).[8] The ocean principally comprises Earth's hydrosphere and therefore is integral to all known life, forms part of the carbon cycle, and influences climate and weather patterns. It is the habitat of 230,000 known species, although much of the ocean's depths remain unexplored, and over two million marine species are estimated to exist.[9] The origin of Earth's oceans remains unknown; oceans are believed to have formed in the Hadean period and may have been the impetus for the emergence of life. Extraterrestrial oceans may be composed of water or other elements and compounds. The only confirmed large stable bodies of extraterrestrial surface liquids are the lakes of Titan, although there is evidence for the existence of oceans elsewhere in the Solar System. Early in their geologic histories, Mars and Venus are theorized to have had large water oceans. The Mars ocean hypothesis suggests that nearly a third of the surface of Mars was once covered by water, and a runaway greenhouse effect may have boiled away the global ocean of Venus. Compounds such as salts and ammonia dissolved in water lower its freezing point, so that water might exist in large quantities in extraterrestrial environments as brine or convecting ice. Unconfirmed oceans are speculated beneath the surface of many dwarf planets and natural satellites; notably, the ocean of Europa is believed to have over twice the water volume of Earth. The Solar System's gas giant planets are also believed to possess liquid atmospheric layers of yet to be confirmed compositions. Oceans may also exist on exoplanets and exomoons, including surface oceans of liquid water within a circumstellar habitable zone. Ocean planets are a hypothetical type of planet with a surface completely covered with liquid seehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean

World Oceans Day Presentation at SeaWorld San Diego 6-8-18

SeaWorld did a few presentations today for World Ocean's day. There was one at dolphin stadium! I decided to film it because there was only going to be one ever. The first part has pilot whales and second has dolphins. However the main point of this is pollution. The sad part is no one would go if it didn't have animals. 0:00 to 10:00 Argo and 9Lives (Shadow/Niner) 11:30 Not the exact order but the groupings should be correct: Zana, Koa, Sandy, Corona, Bullet, Beaker, Constance, Kali, Captain, Melanie, Bodie, Avalon, Cocoa, Lanikai, Venus, Malibu ©Ruka Share but please do not use

Fin Whale The fin whale is the second largest creature on Earth after the blue whale. It has been severely affected by commercial whaling and now it is rare to see one. If you have seen one, consider yourself lucky! They can grow as long as 89 feet (27 m) in length and can weigh between 40 to 80 tons! The maximum ever recorded weighed in at 114 tons!! They can live to be over 100 years old if left alone. The fin whale’s body is built for speed and it can even go faster than the fastest ocean steamship. It’s capable of speeds of up to 37 km/h but can go short bursts of even 47 km/h, earning it the nickname “greyhound of the sea”. Fin Whales have a very unique coloring with the right underside of their jaw, right lip, and the right side of their baleen being a yellowish-white, while the left-side is gray, making them look asymmetrical. Fun fact, fin whales and blue whales make the lowest frequency sounds of any animals. When they were first recorded by submarines, scientists thought they were tectonic plates grinding. Kind of makes you wonder about what is causing other mysterious ocean sounds! 9.) Portuguese Man of War While this is often considered a jellyfish, the Portuguese man-of-war is actually not an “it” but a “they”! It is made up of a colony of organisms called polyps that work together known as a siphonophore. While the tentacles can extend 165 feet (50 m), the average is about 30 feet (9 m) long. Still nothing to scoff at!! Also known as “the floating terror”, their body is between 5 inches to a foot wide (13 cm- 130 cm). They are usually found in groups of about a thousand or more, and have no independent means of movement. They either drift on the currents or catch the wind, so even though you should be super careful of jellyfish, they aren’t ever out to get you on purpose! The tentacles on a man-of-war are extremely venomous and very painful if you get stung but they are rarely deadly. The venom is typically used to paralyze their prey, such as small fish and other smaller creatures. Also keep in mind that a man-of-war does not need to be alive in order to give off a powerful sting, even if it has washed up on shore and looks dead, it can still sting you! The Portuguese man-of-war floats around the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Indian and Pacific. So keep an eye out if you are swimming around these areas! 8.) Giant Clam The giant clam is the largest living bivalve mollusk on earth. (Bivalve mollusks include clams, oysters, and mussels). Native to the warm waters of Australia's Great Barrier Reef, giant clams are capable of growing an average of 4 feet (1 m) in length and weighing close to 500 pounds (250 kg)! However, some species of clams have been known to grow as long as 6 feet. The large majority of a giant clam’s mass is in its shell, with the soft parts accounting for only approximately 10% of the weight. Giant clams are now endangered because they apparently are also quite delicious and have been hunted for centuries for its healthy protein. The giant clam has one chance to find its perfect home because once it chooses its spot, it stays there for the rest of its life. They can live up to 100 years or more, as long as they are in the wild. Most of the giant clams you see today have been raised in captivity and are really popular in large aquariums. Giant clams achieve their enormous proportions by consuming the sugars and proteins produced by the billions of algae that live in their tissues. This symbiotic relationship protects the algae and they are responsible for the unique coloration. No two giant clams are alike! 7.) Great White Shark According to National Geographic, great white sharks are the largest predatory fish in the world. They grow to an average of 15 feet (4.6 m) in length. However, there have been some who have grown to 20 feet (6 m) in length! In fact, the largest Great White Shark ever recorded in the wild was estimated to be 26 feet long, which is more than half the length of a basketball court. Combine this with a bunch of teeth, and this is why people get so scared. They are known to weigh up to 5,000 pounds (2268 kg). The heaviest Great White Shark ever recorded in the wild was estimated to weigh in at a whopping 7,328 pounds. . Most MYSTERIOUS Ocean Facts!

11:50
Check out these top unexplained mysteries of the deep ocean. From strange sounds captured in the deep sea by hydrophones such as the bloop, the train, and julia, to gigantic whirlpools, biggest underwater falls and the milky bioluminescent sea phenomenon. Are deep sea monsters living deep in the ocean? Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "12 Historical Treasures In The Middle East DESTROYED!" video here: https://youtu.be/Nt9mWUpTp1U Watch our "Most HAUNTED Places In The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/h9elrDhft9w Watch our "Most DANGEROUS Religious Cults Ever!" video here: https://youtu.be/VTD1qabI3v0 9. Underwater Falls Voted one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. On the Southwestern tip of the island you will find a fascinating illusion. When viewed from above, a runoff of sand and silt deposits creates the impression of an ‘underwater waterfall’. But did you know there are actually real underwater waterfalls? Seven waterfalls have been discovered deep underwater. The tallest waterfall on Earth is not Angel Falls, but an underwater waterfall called Denmark Strait Cataract located in the Atlantic ocean between Greenland and Iceland. It is the world's highest underwater waterfall, with water falling almost 11,500 feet and carries 175 million cubic feet of water per second. It is caused due to temperature differences in the water on either side of the strait. Cold water is denser than warm water. And the eastern side of the strait is a lot colder than the western side. So when the waters meet, the cold water sinks below the warmer water, creating a strong downward flow, which is considered a waterfall. And it's not just waterfalls that are under the ocean. There are huge secret rivers, complete with rapids and islands that flow down the sea shelves out into the desert plains creating river banks and flood plains. Here's a picture of the river Cenote Angelita under the sea of Mexico. These salty rivers carry sediments and minerals and could be vital in sustaining life. The world's sixth largest river, by volume, is below the Black Sea. It is 350 times larger than the Thames and 150 feet deep in places. 8. Milky Sea Phenomenon For over 400 years, sailors told tales of a mysterious event that takes place far out in the Indian Ocean. They would come across miles and miles of milky glowing waters, sometimes stretching as far as the eye could see. In 2005, a group of scientists led by Dr. Steven Miller of the Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey, Calif., decided to take a closer look at this story to see if it was true. They managed to register about 235 observations and get a satellite image that showed an area of low lighting in the Indian Ocean about the size of Connecticut. Their samples that they collected indicated the presence of a type of bioluminescent bacteria in the water, known as Vibrio harveyi. This isn't the same kind of bacteria that you might see in waves that use their bright light to ward off predators. This bioluminescent bacteria may actually use light to attract fish, since its favorite place to live is inside a fish's gut. Scientists' guess is that since they only emit a very faint light on their own, they have to gather together to make an impact. Their collective glow can grow to massive, milky sea proportions when their numbers swell to a huge amount -- think 40 billion trillion. They may also congregate to colonize algae. Sounds like a party! It is still only a guess since Dr. Miller and his colleagues haven't determined exactly what causes the bacteria to gather. 7. Unexplained sounds Of course dark, creepy fog can make you jump at anything that goes bump in the night. But what about things that go "bloop" in the sea? With names like "The Bloop," "Train" and "Julia," the sounds have been captured by hydrophones, or underwater microphones, monitored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The decidedly nonspooky nicknames for these sounds do little to dispel the mystery surrounding them. In 1997, NOAA hydrophones 3,000 miles apart picked up one of the loudest sounds ever recorded off the southern coast of South America: the Bloop (which sounds exactly like its name, a bloop). The Bloop mimics marine animal sounds in some ways, but if it were some kind of sea creature it would have to be almost the size of the Eiffel tower for that sound to be heard from 3,000 miles away. So what made the sound? It's anyone's guess but deep-sea monsters aside, NOAA holds the most likely explanation for The Bloop is that it was the sound of a large iceberg fracturing. Sure.... Another weird noise known as Julia sounds almost like someone whining or maybe even singing under water. The eastern equatorial Pacific autonomous array (the fancy name for the network of hydrophones) picked up this strange sound that lasted 15 seconds in 1999.

Electric Ocean At SeaWorld!

25:24
After about a month, Brennan and I made a special nighttime trip out to SeaWorld to finally experience Electric Ocean this summer! This is one of my favorite summer events going on in Orlando, because of the brand new shows, the food, and the fireworks. We got to check out Sea Lions Tonite, POP, Shamu's Celebration: Light Up The Night, and Ignite, all in the span of three hours at SeaWorld. I hope to definitely be back on a less rainy night to check out the shows we missed, and maybe ride some rides we haven't ridden in a while!

Deepest Part of The Oceans - Full Documentary HD

Measuring the Greatest Ocean Depth The Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench is the deepest known point in Earth's oceans. In 2010 the United States Center for Coastal & Ocean Mapping measured the depth of the Challenger Deep at 10,994 meters (36,070 feet) below sea level with an estimated vertical accuracy of ± 40 meters. If Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth, were placed at this location it would be covered by over one mile of water. The first depth measurements in the Mariana Trench were made by the British survey ship HMS Challenger, which was used by the Royal Navy in 1875 to conduct research in the trench. The greatest depth that they recorded at that time was 8,184 meters (26,850 feet). In 1951, another Royal Navy vessel, also named the "HMS Challenger," returned to the area for additional measurements. They discovered an even deeper location with a depth of 10,900 meters (35,760 feet) determined by echo sounding. The Challenger Deep was named after the Royal Navy vessel that made these measurements. In 2009, sonar mapping done by researchers aboard the RV Kilo Moana, operated by the University of Hawaii, determined the depth to be 10,971 meters (35,994 feet) with a potential error of ± 22 meters. The most recent measurement, done in 2010, is the 10,994 meter ( ± 40 meter accuracy) depth reported at the top of this article, measured by the United States Center for Coastal & Ocean Mapping.

There was some great teamwork between Kasatka and Orkid in the beginning and Kalia also had a prominent part in this show! Corky and her trainer did the hug behavior during Side by Side which I haven't seen in a while. Also, Makani made a cameo at the end by mostly staying with his trainer at stage but he did do a group fluke splash and slideout. Overall, I liked this show a lot. Enjoy! DO NOT USE MY VIDEOS!!! YOU WILL BE REPORTED!!! Special Sunday Presentation, the last show of yesterday lol 630pm a special thankyou to my few subscribers. 13 thousand and more of you :) You guys are spoiled! :) well me too haha Surprise im back at starbucks woo hoo, kidding, uploading being BACK at SWF....and no I do not work for SeaWorld lol although i do stand by them, just love to see the orcas up close, few weeks after the death anniversary of our dear Tilikum, i just had to go back and see how the gangs doing, "new favorite", well other than our late Tilikum, and no one can ever replace him, a tie between Katina and Trua, and maybe a close second Kayla....i guess i really like the huge orcas, not the babies....seems like everyones alright, except, and again, i am no expert, im not a trainer or a doctor, i just love taking videos, and to my eyes(some instagram users already posted pics of her, since Sept/Oct, just a couple of months since i was here last July 2017 have to review my vids) Malia might have something... just from the way she looks, and im hoping for the best, SeaWorld doesnt need another orca passing on them, and i hope its just the same thing what Kayla had, some discoloration on her jaw area..and she doesnt seem affected nor slow moving.. nothing has changed other than her looks..she still performs as usual, SeaWorld actually made me a believer (not Justin Bieber lol) proving to me that they care a lot about these animals most especially the trainers... no question about it...or else they would have said something by now... thats why i visit them often, as often as i could really....also im not in my usual seat as i dont want to get wet and its been cold in Orlando except today and maybe the next few days...updates on the Infinity falls later on, while on the Sky Tower, which i have to add, SWF started charging again ($2) really? unless you are a season pass holder, also have a very cool vid with Trainer Megan, i believe shes the best trainer in Orlando, she should be promoted, just love her, the way she conducts herself, when she speaks to people, she really cares about what she does, and these animals, no more bad blood with trainer Mimi either, other than the Makaios dad thing, she made me a believer as well...theres also a new trainer who i thought was the heavy set lady, and lost weight, but no, its a different one.. i have to review my videos from last summer (2017) but the new trainers name is Amanda... well heres One Ocean still playing at SWF and well when SWT opens again on Feb, at SWT also lol only at SWC has stopped and has Orca Encounter....i think next year they will start Orca encounter either at SWT first, and SWF later on as Shamu Stadium still gets sort of packed even though its cold, i remember around Jan 2015 and people were saying its empty... it was raining at that time as well.... Note: all 6 Orcas were all in the show pool, as they are doing something in the E pool(no water) as workers are in there, someone said they are sanding it and will paint it again, so no orcas in B and C pools, F and G pools are open to the pilot whales... more on that later... also Dine with Shamu, er well, renaming that Dine with the Pilot whales lol then an after lunch show with Shamu lol One Song - Katina with Trainer Amanda, Kayla with Trainer Nick, Trua with Trainer Lea, Malia and Nalani were both with Trainer Joe2, and Makaio with Trainer Justin.... Frolic - Katina and son Makaio while the Nalani and Malia come in a bit, and you see the discoloration on her jaw (i really do hope its nothing) you can also see shes moving just fine... as Kayla and Trua have fun near the stage. Joe1 and Megan stand for Joe2, Amanda and Justin until they get back on stage.... Side by side - Lea and Nick sends Trua and Kayla on a perimeter lob tail swim thingy lol not sure what the behavior is called... while the four other orcas wait by the stage with their respective trainers. Splash/We're One - Katina Family, Katina, Nalani and Makaio and Kayla's sub pod, Kayla, Trua and Malia....

The deep ocean is the final frontier on planet Earth

14:49
The ocean covers 70% of our planet. The deep-sea floor is a realm that is largely unexplored, but cutting-edge technology is enabling a new generation of aquanauts to go deeper than ever before. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: http://econ.trib.al/rWl91R7 Beneath the waves is a mysterious world that takes up to 95% of Earth's living space. Only three people have ever reached the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean. The deep is a world without sunlight, of freezing temperatures, and immense pressure. It's remained largely unexplored until now. Cutting-edge technology is enabling a new generation of aquanauts to explore deeper than ever before. They are opening up a whole new world of potential benefits to humanity. The risks are great, but the rewards could be greater. From a vast wealth of resources to clues about the origins of life, the race is on to the final frontier The Okeanos Explorer, the American government state-of-the-art vessel, designed for every type of deep ocean exploration from discovering new species to investigating shipwrecks. On board, engineers and scientists come together to answer questions about the origins of life and human history. Today the Okeanos is on a mission to investigate the wreck of a World War one submarine. Engineer Bobby Moore is part of a team who has developed the technology for this type of mission. The “deep discover”, a remote operating vehicle is equipped with 20 powerful LED lights and designed to withstand the huge pressure four miles down. Equivalent to 50 jumbo jets stacked on top of a person While the crew of the Okeanos send robots to investigate the deep, some of their fellow scientists prefer a more hands-on approach. Doctor Greg stone is a world leading marine biologist with over 8,000 hours under the sea. He has been exploring the abyss in person for 30 years. The technology opening up the deep is also opening up opportunity. Not just to witness the diversity of life but to glimpse vast amounts of rare mineral resources. Some of the world's most valuable metals can be found deep under the waves. A discovery that has begun to pique the interest of the global mining industry. The boldest of mining companies are heading to the deep drawn by the allure of a new Gold Rush. But to exploit it they're also beating a path to another strange new world. In an industrial estate in the north of England, SMD is one of the world's leading manufacturers of remote underwater equipment. The industrial technology the company has developed has made mining possible several kilometers beneath the ocean surface. With an estimated 150 trillion dollars’ worth of gold alone, deep-sea mining has the potential to transform the global economy. With so much still to discover, mining in the deep ocean could have unknowable impact. It's not just life today that may need protecting; reaching the deep ocean might just allow researchers to answer some truly fundamental questions. Hydrothermal vents, hot springs on the ocean floor, are cracks in the Earth's crust. Some claim they could help scientists glimpse the origins of life itself. We might still be years away from unlocking the mysteries of the deep. Even with the latest technology, this kind of exploration is always challenging. As the crew of the Okeanos comes to terms with a scale of the challenge and the opportunity that lies beneath, what they and others discover could transform humanity's understanding of how to protect the ocean. It's the most hostile environment on earth, but the keys to our future may lie in the deep. The vivid imagination of a young girl sets the stage for an emotional adventure to experience the power of the sea and the elegance of flight. I recorded this family video on November 4, 2010 at the Orlando, Florida SeaWorld with a Canon HV30. Tilikum is the subject of the documentary film Blackfish. SeaWorld in San Diego is fighting AB 2140, the "California Captive Orca Welfare and Safety Act," would end performance-based entertainment for all 10 orcas in the state.
