Why the secret to success is setting the right goals | John Doerr

11:52
Our leaders and institutions are failing us, but it's not always because they're bad or unethical, says venture capitalist John Doerr -- often, it's simply because they're leading us toward the wrong objectives. In this practical talk, Doerr shows us how we can get back on track with "Objectives and Key Results," or OKRs -- a goal-setting system that's been employed by the likes of Google, Intel and Bono to set and execute on audacious goals. Learn more about how setting the right goals can mean the difference between success and failure -- and how we can use OKRs to hold our leaders and ourselves accountable. TED - 8 secrets of success by Richard St. John [transcript, listening skills, 윤현우]

02:27
(transcript below) This is H.Jay Yun (윤현우) Visit here at http://cafe446.daum.net/_c21_/bbs_list?grpid=1ONcc&mgrpid=&fldid=RTi2 to watch more various video clips such as recent English news, commercials, movie trailer, and English dramas and transcripst as well. I am an English instructor of Jung-chul Language Institute(정철어학원) in South Korea. My name is H.Jay Yun(윤현우) I offer latest news, commercials, movie trailer, and English dramas on my cafe and in my classes. Anyone who wanna learn English can come and join ! :D -- transcript -- So here we are, seven years, 500 interviews later, and I'm gonna tell you what really leads to success and makes TED-sters tick. And the first thing is passion. Freeman Thomas says, "I'm driven by my passion." TED-sters do it for love; they don't do it for money. Carol Coletta says, "I would pay someone to do what I do." And the interesting thing is: if you do it for love, the money comes anyway. Work! Rupert Murdoch said to me, "It's all hard work. Nothing comes easily. But I have a lot of fun." Did he say fun? Rupert? Yes! TED-sters do have fun working. And they work hard. I figured, they're not workaholics. They're workafrolics. Good! Alex Garden says, "To be successful put your nose down in something and get damn good at it." There's no magic; it's practice, practice, practice. And it's focus. Norman Jewison said to me, "I think it all has to do with focusing yourself on one thing." And push! David Gallo says, "Push yourself. Physically, mentally, you've gotta push, push, push." You gotta push through shyness and self-doubt. Now it's not always easy to push yourself, and that's why they invented mothers. Serve! Sherwin Nuland says, "It was a privilege to serve as a doctor." Now a lot of kids tell me they want to be millionaires. And the first thing I say to them is: "OK, well you can't serve yourself; you gotta serve others something of value. Because that's the way people really get rich." Ideas! TED-ster Bill Gates says, "I had an idea: founding the first micro-computer software company." Persist! Joe Kraus says, "Persistence is the number one reason for our success." You gotta persist through failure. You gotta persist through crap! Which of course means "Criticism, Rejection, Assholes and Pressure." do the eight things, and trust me, these are the big eight things that lead to success. Thank you TED-sters for all your interviews!

Own Your Behaviours, Master Your Communication, Determine Your Success | Louise Evans | TEDxGenova

18:31
This speech is a call to action. We spend about eighty percent of our day at work, the rest is at home. If we have a bad day at work we are likely to take that negativity home with us and vice versa. It is of paramount importance that we create healthy environments in the spaces that most affect our lives by giving of our best and receiving the like in return. The 5 Chairs is a powerful and systematic method which helps us master our own behaviours and manage the behaviours of others. To be a good leader is to contribute to the success and happiness of everyone, at work and at home, on a conscious level. The 5 Chairs offer 5 Choices. Which will you choose? Behavioral Coach, Corporate Trainer, Author of ‘5 Chairs 5 Choices’. Louise Evans heads up her own organization in Florence, Italy from which she offers international leadership development, cross-cultural transitional coaching and personal development programmes for individuals and teams working in international contexts. She is English but has lived and worked in Germany, France and for the last 30 years in Italy. Three things have always been important in her life - people, travel and the performing arts - all three of which she combines in her daily work. Having travelled to seven-five countries and experienced culture shock three times, Louise brings multiple perspectives to the present moment to help people connect across their differences. Louise believes deeply in people’s ability to grow and transform. What she values most is helping people strengthen their self-awareness and their understanding of others so that they bring their best selves into the world in every situation. Enter the cult of extreme productivity | Mark Adams | TEDxHSG

18:34
In this talk Mark shares a dramatic and powerful system that takes productivity thinking to whole new and terrifying level, allowing a person to achieve almost any goal they set themselves with rapid speed. The secret to this type of exponential success? Bin your ‘affirmations’ and ‘goals’ and instead embrace fear as your friend by making irreversible decisions. Instead of hapless resolutions members of the "Lock-In" cult contract with themselves in a way that they cannot escape from (without suffering brutal consequences). The “Lock-In" system harnesses our most primal evolutionary instinct - to avoid pain - and uses it to radically supercharge our lives. Many of the most successful people in history have used its phenomenal power to create extraordinary success. Think you're hardcore enough? Then enter the Cult of Extreme Productivity Mark Adams is Vice President and Head of Innovation at VICE, which has come from humble beginnings as a print magazine to digitally transform into a 5 billion dollar youth media empire. In this talk, Mark describes the cult of extreme productivity that he became part of alongside his brother. The cult is all about making irreversible decisions that make “manifesting” your dreams the only option because not achieving it would create indescribable suffering. This is the second time Mark has done a TEDx talk. The first time his talk was banned. The Unachievable Dream Made Possible. Ted Turner's Secret To Success

04:51
It's not very often that you find one of your billionaires most colorful quotes coming from playboy magazine. This is not where I got my information from of course but as I looked into additional additional sources on his life it kit coming up over and over again but thus the life of Ted Turner. A man who loves woman and a good drink and yet is known for creating and caring deeply about the moral of the media his television channels created. But if you haven't heard about Ted let's start from the beginning to give you some backstory. Ted is an American media mogul but also an incredibly giving philanthropist. He started young in the media industry helping his dad in a billboard company. Add his dad's company Ted did everything from clean up after the workers to sales and then onto eventually owning the company after his father's suicide. His father was an abusive man regular lien manipulating, beating, and yelling at the boy Ted Turner. Despite this Ted admired his father and will forever be grateful for the lessons Robert Turner taught him. One such lesson being “You should set goals beyond your reach so you always have something to live for.” When his father told him this piece of advice it inspired the boy Ted to reach further than he ever thought possible in the world of business and sports. Ted was an extremely accomplished sailor even winning major competitions in the sport. He was inducted into america's cup Hall of Fame and National sailing Hall of fame. He also bought the Atlanta Braves at a time the Braves were in a major losing streak. He loved them anyway and was actively involved with the team eventually seeing them win a World Series. His personal life was complicated to say the least. When he was a young boy his father would come home from the bar telling the boy Turner all about his exploits with women teaching turner that a real man did not stay faithful to one woman. This philosophy got Tim into A lot of trouble and Tim was eventually married and divorced 3 times most notably to Jane Fonda a popular actress at the time. His professional life was just as colorful, Ted dabbling in many areas but sticking mainly to media. He helped create CNN, the first channel dedicated solely to news. At his height his net worth was about 6 billion and he donated 1 billion of that to a charity dedicated to supporting the United Nations and their charities. Ted towards the end of his career was taken out of his own company when his company merged with AOL. Though he lost a major portion on his fortune during this time he to this day is worth about 2.2 billion dollars so is not hurting financially in any way. His mindset though was so much fun to study, he himself being a fun charismatic man with many mindset secrets and I will list a few below. He stayed always in the present and future. This is a common trait among billionaires preferring not to dwell at all in the past not seeing much of a benefit to it. He allowed himself to dream big, not just big but huge. He let himself even when he was young to set inachievable goals. He believed by setting such large goals he never had to worry about running out of something to strive for like his father did before him. He talked of these dreams and goals frequently to those around him often times leaving those around him with the impression that he was out of his mind! He didn’t care though, he kept and keeps dreaming and then going to work for turning this big dreams into a reality.

Whether the return is negative, or positive, failure or success, is all up to what you give out. Many authors and celebrities such as, Wayne Dyer, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Jim Carrey, Steve Harvey, Rhonda Byrne, and many others have testified to this amazing Law Of Attraction. How to Achieve Your Most Ambitious Goals | Stephen Duneier | TEDxTucson

17:53
How you define Stephen Duneier depends on how you came to know him. Some define him as an expert institutional investor, while others know him as a large scale installation artist, avid outdoorsman, professor, decision strategist, coach, business leader, mindfulness extremist, author, speaker, daredevil or Guinness world record holder. In his talk, Stephen explains that what truly defines him aren't titles, but an approach to decision making that transformed him from someone who struggled with simple tasks to a guy who is continuously achieving even his most ambitious dreams. For thirty years, he has applied cognitive science to investing, business and life. The result has been the turnaround of numerous institutional businesses, career best returns for managers who have adopted his methods, the development of a $1.25 billion dollar hedge fund and a rapidly shrinking bucket list. Mr. Duneier teaches graduate courses on Decision Analysis in UCSB’s College of Engineering. His book, AlphaBrain is due for release in early 2017 from Wiley & Sons. Through Bija Advisors, he helps business leaders improve performance by applying proven, proprietary decision-making methods to their own processes. His artwork has been featured around the world and is represented by the Sullivan Goss Gallery. As Commissioner of the League of Professional Educators, Duneier is using cognitive science to alter the landscape of American education. He is the former Head of Currency Option Trading at Bank of America and Emerging Markets at AIG International. Richard Branson: Advice for Entrepreneurs

04:04
Don't miss new Big Think videos! Subscribe by clicking here: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Since Branson founded Virgin in 1970, the company has grown from a small record outlet to a global powerhouse. Can the brand continue its success without him? Question: What is your advice for entrepreneurs? Richard Branson:  I think the most important thing about running a company is to remember all the time what a company is.  A company is simply a group of people. And as a leader of people you have to be a great listener and you have to be a great motivator.  You have to be very good at praising and looking for the best in people.  People are no different from flowers.  If you water flowers they flourish, if you praise people they flourish. And that is a critical attribute of a leader. Question: What has been the most difficult part about running Virgin?Richard Branson:  There is a very thin dividing line between success and failure.  Most people who set off in business without financial backing they fail at some times in their lives. I've only just stayed at the right side of that dividing line.  For instance, just after...  You know we had a record company.  I was fed up flying on other people's airlines.  I felt that the experience of flying on other people's airlines was an unpleasant one and I decided to set up an airline.  Well our bank went into a complete panic attack and when I came back from doing the inaugural flight of Virgin Atlantic's very, very first flight from London to New York I came back to find the bank manager sitting on my doorstep and informing me that they were going to close Virgin down on the Monday and this was the Friday and that I had two days to effectively pay them off the monies that they'd loaned us and I remember pushing the bank manager out of my house, telling him he wasn't welcome, which is a dangerous thing to do to your bank manager and then spending the weekend ringing around the world to all of the distributors of our music asking if they could give us a temporary loan to get us through the following week, which they were good enough to do and by the end of the week we had changed banks and we actually managed to find a bank that was willing to lend us 30 times the overdraft facility that our bank had lent us and we managed to survive. And I think the moral of that story is actually don't think of your bank as somebody that you're beholden to.  I mean don't...  You know people just don't move from one bank to another.  Sometimes you need to be willing to step up and move your banks in the same way that you should step up and move your doctor on occasions and anyway, I learned from that lesson. Question: Can Virgin continue to be successful without you?Richard Branson: Virgin does work very well without me.  I mean I use myself to build the brand, to build the sort of three or four hundred companies around the world, but I also learned the art of delegation.  I have a fantastic team of people who run the Virgin companies, give them a lot of freedom to run the companies as if they were their own companies.  I give them the freedom to make mistakes and the Virgin brand is now maybe one of the top 20 brands in the world, well respected. And when my balloon bursts Virgin will continue to flourish. And maybe I add the icing on the cake on occasions, maybe they'll have to spend a bit more money on marketing, but fortunately Virgin is in a state where it can live on healthily without me. Recorded September 22, 2010 Interviewed by Victoria Brown

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) Video recorded at TEDx Hasselt on 26 september 2013.
