Japanese Street Fashion - Raw, Harajuku
Meet Raw, a standout Japanese student at Tokyo's famous Bunka Fashion College. After playing sports in high school, Raw had a life-changing experience while experimenting with fashion. "Our Streets, My Style" is our original show taking you up close and personal with Japanese street style personalities. Meet the amazing people featured in the daily street snaps Tokyo Fashion has been publishing for over a decade. Raw on Instagram & Twitter https://www.instagram.com/lifecoming1/ https://twitter.com/coming1101 We first met Raw (Kota) on the streets of Harajuku back in 2017. We got to know him while he attended his first year at the most famous fashion school in Asia, Japan's Bunka Fashion College. Often wearing his own handmade (or at least hand modified) creations, he immediately struck us as someone who was more serious about fashion than the average Harajuku kid. During the summer of 2017, Raw scored an internship at the world famous Dog Harajuku boutique (known for their relationship with Lady Gaga as well as numerous other international celebrities and stylists) - establishing himself as one of the new faces worth watching in the Japanese street fashion scene. Now a second year student at Bunka Fashion College, Raw continues to focus on making his own outfits as well as expanding his skills in fashion styling and fashion promotion. He also spends time thinking about how modern social media impacts what fashion people wear, and how people present themselves on social media. Enjoy Raw's interview, and please leave comments if you have any thoughts or questions on what he has to say, on Bunka Fashion College, or on Harajuku. What Harajuku Girls Really Look Like | Style Out There | Refinery29
From Gothic Lolitas to Yoyogi Rockabillies, the Tokyo neighborhood of Harajuku is a wellspring of some of the world's most unique and extreme fashion trends. Rife with restaurants, shops, and cafes, it's a hangout 'hood for the city's youth, whose style is confined to uniforms from elementary school through to high school graduation. And, perhaps to rebel from such strict sameness, they spend their weekends seeing how far they can push the limits. One of the oldest and most pervasive Harajuku style groups is Decora, characterized by a pursuit of kawaii, or "cuteness," which is expressed in massive piles of hair clips, face bandaids, creative layering, and a mishmash of colors and textures. Don't let "cute" confuse you: There's nothing delicate or elegant about Decora. It's bright, it's loud, and it's in your face (or rather, on your face, via a Hello Kitty bandaid). Though the style can appear as frivolous as a Halloween costume, there's a real statement behind the bevy of barrettes. In the face of pervasive group-mindedness, a rigid social order, and cultural reticence, the Decora have figured out a way to break free. In the first episode of our new documentary series, Style Out There, our host Asha Leo travels to Harajuku to meet with street fashion superstars, like 90884 designer Kurebayashi, Junnyan, and Shoichi Aoki, the founder of FRUiTS magazine, to peel back the rainbow-colored stickers and uncover the depth behind Decora. Japan Fashion Haul! Spent all my $$ on vintage & street wear
Here's what I bought in Japan! The street style over there is my absolute dream so I went a bit crazy shopping in Harajuku, Tokyo, Shibuya & Osaka. Subscribe for more - http://bit.ly/1vNpDRe FOLLOW ME ON INSTA - @StealTheSpotlight Some of my top places for shopping were; In Osaka: Hep5 - This was like a better version of Shibuya 109 imo (at least if you're more into mens/streetwear) There's also cafe's and non clothing stores like a Disney and Jump shop. + there's a ferris wheel on top of the building which was awesome to look over Osaka at night. Orange Street - This street was amazing for vintage shopping!! Make sure you pay attention to any little signs because often stores are tucked away up and down stairs! Some of the side streets also have some good finds so just be on the look out for anything that catches your eye. This was one of my favourite spots - highly recommend! In Tokyo - Harajuku - Personally I found Takeshita Street too busy. It was definitely worth a look but if you get anxiety in crowds it's not the best spot for you. We spent time just wondering around, getting lost which lead us to some cool stores. I'm not sure of the street name but whatever road has the opening ceremony store is definitely worth a look! Tons of great shops a long there, make sure you check some of the side alleys as well! What I assume is the 'main road' has stores worth a look too - there's a good WeGo that wasn't so busy and a massive thrift store just near the Line Friends flagship shop where you can get a bunch of bt21 goodies! Honestly just roam everywhere in this area and people watch because everyone's style is incredible!! Shibuya - Shibuya 109 is definitely worth a visit, there's some really unique stores in there and there's a lot to look at. If you're in the mood to shop you could probably spend quite a long time here! Of course there's a lot of shopping to do just in the general area as well. The Disney store there is also really beautiful. I loved Tower Records too! Both times we went there, there happened to be a performance on. Shimokitazawa - This area has a TON of vintage stores packed in, for the most part they stock fairly similar styles but it's crazy to see the quantity and quality of second hand over there! No specific recommendations, again you really just have to explore the area. Akihabara - This is where I picked up any anime merch but I'm sure if you're into anime you are already well aware of this area! Ahh I think those are the main shopping spots I'd recommend! Sorry it's a bit wordy, but hopefully it's helpful for any of you travelling to Japan soon :) ♫Music By♫ Engelwood - https://soundcloud.com/engelwoodmusic/ FTC: Not Sponsored. No affiliate links. "Urban Nomadic" at In Process by Hall Ohara Fall 2012 | MB Fashion Week Tokyo | FashionTV
SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/FashionTVSUB http://www.FashionTV.com/videos TOKYO - Japanese label In Process by Hall Ohara showcased their Fall 2012 collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tokyo. The brand came together through a collaboration from London-born Steven Hall and Tokyo-born Yurika Ohara at Saint Martins, where they both graduated, then married and started their fashion label in 2006. They changed the name from Hall Ohara to "In Process by Hall Ohara" for Spring 2010. Their Fall 2012 collection was made up of oversized street style pieces that reflected the collection's theme "Urban Nomadic." The collection was overexaggerated, graphic and slightly cartoonish, yet still wearable. 10 Reasons Japanese Culture Is Deeply Disturbing
See more at www.brilliantnews.com Anyone who’s glanced at modern, urban Japanese culture has inevitably run across one or two bits that are simply strange. You don’t even need to get into p*rnography to see some aspects of Japanese culture that are straight-up weird. 1. The Parasites Museum Yup. The only museum in the world dedicated to parasites. It’s filled with glass cases in which organs and tissue have been allowed to play host to some of the world’s most interesting (and revolting) parasites. In fact they're so disturbing, we're just gonna show a lovely shot of Japan’s native Ussuri Brown Bear. That's better. 2. Japanese Toilets The Japanese have mastered toilet time. Some of their toilets include a heated seat and music ranging from pop to nature sounds. When you’re finished the toilet can actually splash your hind quarters with warm water for a nice refreshing treat. 3. Robot Restaurant Not that the Japanese are obsessed with robots or anything, but their specially dedicated restaurant sees bikini-clad women fight huge robots on migraine inducing neon backdrop. The food is extremely expensive but the four 90-minute shows attract huge audiences every day. 4. Vending Machines Japan is obsessed with these machines having the highest per capita rate of vending machines in the world. From drinks to … well, some very odd items. Need some bread in a can? How about pirated video games? Buddhist amulets? Fresh noodles? Used underwear? You can get it all in a Japanese vending machine. 5. Go Kawaii or Go Home It seems that the highest achievable goal in Japanese society is to be cute. Everywhere you look there are brands ready to help you get kawaii. Even the government has embraced the cute vibe and started implementing it in the strangest of places, like this elderly people crossing sign. 6. Japan's Shut-In Problem Known colloquially as hikikomori, Japanese shut-ins are a growing number of teens and twenty-somethings so anxious about moving out into the world that they simply don't. This group of youngsters has been dubbed, “the missing million.” 7. Cartoons Are Everywhere In Japan, animated characters aren’t just for kids. They’re used all over the place. From an army of cartoons covering posters and billboards hawking any kind of product to simple public signs and instruction manuals, the Japanese can't get enough of em. 8. Nap at Work The Japanese have a well-earned reputation for being hard workers by day and getting blasted with their coworkers by night. Fortunately, the Japanese culture has built in a back door to this obsessive type-A lifestyle. It’s called “inemuri”. Basically a 15-minute nap you can take at your desk. 9. Old Men And Young Women In Japan, there’s a popular niche of pop music featuring underaged girl groups. What’s disconcerting here is that most of the fans are men between the ages of 40 and 65. That’s extra gross when you consider that the most popular of these girl groups recently recruited a 12-year-old member. 10. Kentucky Fried Chicken In Japan, KFC is an extremely popular chain. In fact, every KFC features a life-size version of the Colonel himself, welcoming customers. In fact on Christmas Eve the lines at the chain go out the door. People even go so far as to make reservations months in advance. At KFC. Reservations... Which of these bizarre Japanese cultures surprised you the most? Comment Below!

Black lifestyle in Japan - vpro Metropolis
A pale skin resembles beauty in Japan, but that no longer doesn't count for everyone. Hina lives her life according to the 'B-style', or the 'black lifestyle'. This includes going to the tanning salon regularly to become as dark as American hip hop artists. vpro Metropolis was a video project by Dutch broadcast organisation vpro, that ran from 2008 to 2015. Metropolis is made by a global collective of young filmmakers and TV producers, reporting on remarkable stories from their own country/city. We made a trip around the globe on one single issue: from local beauty ideals to Elvis impersonators, to what's it like being gay, or an outcast or a dog in different cultures. HARAJUKU Fashion Harajuku GirlsTakeshita-Dori 竹下通-原宿站對面
Harajuku Fashion - Harajuku Girls Takeshita-dori - Opposite Harajuku Station, Takeshita-dori is a narrow pedestrian only street packed with young fashionable people and lined with fashion boutiques and cafes. Takeshita-dori is located within Harajuku Tokyo. Takeshita-dori is definitely the place to be seen if you are young Tokyoite, but well worth visiting as a tourist. Takeshita-dori represents the cutting edge of fashion in Tokyo where you can see all the latest in Japanese street fashion and then buy in the boutiques. Harajuku Fashion Omote-sando The broad, tree-lined avenue leading downhill from the southern end of the JR Harajuku station is Omote-sandō (表参道). This is the other side to Harajuku fashion and its challenge to Shibuya and Ginza. Not only is the street full of cafes and clothing boutiques. This very stylish centre is full of the who's who of the world fashion brands. Kogals (コギャル kogyaru, lit. "small/child girl") are a subculture of girls and young women in urban Japan, one of several types of so-called gals. They are characterized by conspicuously displaying their disposable incomes through unique tastes in fashion, music, and social activity. In general, the kogal "look" roughly approximates a sun-tanned California Valley girl, and indeed, the similarities between the two extend to the linguistic, for both subcultures have derived entire sets of slang terms (コギャル語 "ko-gyaru-go"). Kogals are not to be confused with the ganguro subculture, although they are similar.

Counterfeit Culture | Seoul: A Look Inside Korea’s Fake Fashion World
Part II Counterfeit Culture Moscow https://youtu.be/MwJTT1D2PbE In recent years, Korea has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing fashion markets. Koreans are obsessed with fashion, and the country produces scores of talented designers, many of whom are now breaking out onto the global stage. Beneath the surface, though, there’s an insane market for counterfeit streetwear. Of course, you can find fake clothing all over the globe, but there’s places in Seoul that are selling convincing knock-offs of hyped brands like Raf Simons, Off-White, Balenciaga and Fear Of God. Suicide Forest in Japan
Like VICE News? Subscribe to our news channel: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News The Aokigahara Forest is the most popular site for suicides in Japan. After the novel Kuroi Jukai was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year. The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently. 80's are Back in Japanese Fashion
And Japanese showmanship was on display at the conclusion of Japan Fashion Week this weekend. But there was something different about the models this year... Here's more: For more news and videos visit ☛ http://ntdtv.org Follow us on Twitter ☛ http://twitter.com/NTDTelevision Add us on Facebook ☛ http://on.fb.me/s5KV2C With brands like 'Gut's Dynamite Caberets' and collections like 'Love Love Safari,' spectators got a taste for the outrageous at this year's show. The models for 'Cabarets' included dancers, journalists, students, and drag queens, all close friends of the designers. [Takeshi Kudo, Fashion Journalist]: "The designers' funky, pop and entertaining style is reflected in the collection. I had a blast walking down the catwalk!" Caberets' co-designer Jackal Kuzu says the show is a precious opportunity for smaller Japanese names. [Jackal Kuzu, Fashion Designer]: "Japan Fashion Week provides the opportunity for designers like us, who don't speak English and don't have the channels to reach out to the foreign markets." 'Caberets' was originally a men's underwear collection, but co-designers Kuzi and Aki have transformed it into a full-fledged unisex urban street wear trademark. Another designer-duo discarded the runaway altogether. The co-designers of the 'Theatre Products' collection said they wanted something different from the same old catwalk. [Tayuka Nakanishi, Fashion Designer] "We didn't want to create an obvious runway." [Akira Takeuchi, Fashion Designer] "It's a photo shoot, not a fashion show." The two designers were inspired by 80's pop icon Cindi Lauper. And models payed tribute to 80's chic in black, shocking pink and beige garments with dotted and alphabet prints. All in all, more than forty designers, including ten newbies, have presented their 2008-2009 autumn and winter collections at sixth annual Japan Fashion Week.
