Knitting Help - Simple Magic Loop
Most of us find that we don't always have the correct size of circular needle, in the correct length, for every project. Knowing how to work magic loop will allow you to use a long circular needle to knit a small circumference tube. This is especially helpful if you have an interchangeable needle set, which doesn't come with 16" cords! Information on things you'll see in this video: The sweater I'm wearing is my Ombre Dyed Sweater, pattern + video tutorial: http://verypink.com/2012/07/18/ombre-dyed-sweater/ The sweater on the mannequin is my Zasio Sweater Coat, pattern + video tutorial: http://verypink.com/2012/08/29/zasio-sweater-coat/ The patterned project bag on the table is by dellaQ Knitting Bags and Cases: http://www.dellaq.com/home/index/1002.3 The circular needles I'm using are Addi Turbos, available through many online knitting supply stores. The yarn I'm working with is Rowan Magpie Aran, color name "Tranquil". (I do not believe that Rowan is making this yarn anymore.) My nail color is by OPI, called "Every Month is Oktoberfest".

Magic Loops
Jeanie Shekel introduced me to Magic Loops. I had tried a similar technique before, using a bit of thread but with less successful results. The material of the loops (a type of beading thread with memory such as Fireline) is essential to the success of this technique: they are fine, can be bent out of the way when tatting and are also very strong. I hope you find this useful! Apologies for the poor choice of background which makes the loops (made of very fine thread!) quite hard to see. I decided to upload this video anyway as you can still see how to use the loops but will consider remaking this video sometime in the future.

How to knit in the round with the magic loop
Knitting in the round is a great way to finish a project faster and to avoid seaming. Over the centuries knitters came up with quite a few ways to work in the round - using four needles, five needles, one, two or even more circular needles... But recently one way of working in the round became an instant hit. It is called "the magic loop". This technique is relatively new, it was invented by Sarah Hauschka and Bev Galeskas from FiberTrends.com, and thousands (maybe millions) of knitters are eternally grateful to them for this ingenious idea. Magic loop is a simple, elegant, portable solution to working in the round. Let's see how it works. See every step in a photo tutorial at http://www.10rowsaday.com/magic-loop Happy knitting! How to Join the Round Using Magic Loop | Circular Knitting
Watch more Circular Knitting Tutorials videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514419-How-to-Join-the-Round-Using-Magic-Loop-Circular-Knitting Now I'm going to show you how to join knit in the round using the magic loop method. Just like the other ones, you want to cast all your cast on stitches on to one side of the needle. This is going to be a magic loop, obviously. I've got my long 40 inch needle. And then what I need to do is slide the stitches down. I think I've got 30 on this one as well. And I'm going to pull my magic loop out from somewhere in the center. So I just eyeball this because it doesn't matter right now. I'm going to find that little center point or what looks close enough to center. I'm going to move the stitches down on to either side of my beginning magic loop here. Pull the loop out. And now I've got half the stitches on the front and half the stitches on the back. Roughly. So for this one, we need to think about the most recent stitch cast on, the one with the yarny ends coming from it, as being in the back. And stitch number one, the first on I cast on, as being on the front. Make sure I don't have a twist. We're going to talk more about how to join without a twist in another video. So I've got half my stitches in the back. Half my stitches on the front. Make sure that the yarn ends are handing down from the back needle. And just like knitting with magic loop, I want to push my front needle in, hold them together, bring my back needle out and around ready to knit. And here's where we connect. I want to make sure I'm working from the ball and not the tail. Make sure the yarn is behind the needle. Stick it in to stitch number one. And with the yarn coming from the most recent stitch, I am now joined to knit in the round. So that's how we join to knit in the round from magic loop. I would finish this round, or this row. I would finish this needle and then do the back. And that's how you join to knit in the round using magic loop.

How to knit magic loop
In this DROPS video we show how you can knit the magic loop technique. This means you can knit a smaller tubular piece using a circular needle instead of double pointed needles. The circular needle should be long and have a flexible cord. Cast on your number of sts and push the sts to the middle of the cord. Separate and pull out the cord in the middle of the sts. Slide sts to the needle tips each side, make sure sts don't get twisted. Your working yarn is on the back needle and you start working the sts on your front needle. Draw out the back needle to work the front needle. When front needle is done, turn work and slide sts back to the other tip and work that side the same way. Continue in the round, make sure to always pull out the needle at the side where you have the working yarn. This video has NO SOUND - you must read the pattern to be able to follow this video properly. You'll find a pattern where you can use this technique by clicking here: http://bit.ly/DROPS_116-54 You can find this video in many more languages, as well as search within all DROPS knitting and crochet videos here: http://bit.ly/drops-videos Find thousands of free knitting and crochet patterns here: http://bit.ly/drops-free-patterns

Tatting Tips - Magic Loop Helper
I like using magic loops to hide ends when I finish tatting. However, it can be fiddly and slow to insert the magic loop as you have to pull it through every half stitch so that it lies with the core thread. I gave this some thought and came up with the idea of using a "magic loop helper". This extra piece of thread enables you to tat over the magic loop just as quickly as if it wasn't there! I hope you like the idea.

Magic Loop for Sleeves // Knitting Tips & Techniques
Julie Weisenberger from Cocoknits explains how she knits sleeves using the Magic Loop technique. She includes how she casts on before starting the sleeve, uses the working yarn to begin the sleeve, and pulls out the "magic loops" to knit the sleeve in the round. This technique will be familiar to those who knit socks using Magic Loop — it’s the same thing. Pull out two loops to knit around. Julie also gives tips on how to keep your gauge consistent when knitting in the round and what length of circular needle she uses. This technique is used for all Julie's patterns that use the Cocoknits Method, which is explained her book Cocoknits Sweater Workshop. Long Circular Needle / Magic Loop Method | Circular Knitting
Watch more Circular Knitting Tutorials videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/514403-Long-Circular-Needle-Magic-Loop-Method-Circular-Knitting So now I get to show you how to knit with a long circular needle which is called popularly the Magic Loop method. This is my magic loop here. These are my long, these are 40 inch long circulars, and I'm going to show you on a sock which means they're going to be really tiny diameter. I'm working on size 0's. But you can use magic loop method for any size yarn, for any project. The benefits here are that you can use this 40 inch circular for any diameter of project. So I could work on this sock that's about 8 or 9 inches around. I could could do a teeny, teeny, tiny little sleeve like a doll sweater. Or I could use the same needle to knit the sleeves or the body of a sweater. So one benefit to using a long circular is that it's really, really economical. I only need this one needle and it can be good for so many projects, as opposed to if you were using a 32 inch circular and then needing to go down to a 24 inch circular, and then a 16 inch circular, then double points. Just to work, for example, the top shaping of a hat. With magic loop, you can use the same needle for all those diameters. So the theory here is that we've got the needle, because we've pulled this loop out here, I'll show you. We've got the needle dividing the work into like the front needle and the back needle, which we'll switch. So right now, this is the front and this is the back. Then I'm going to be working around and around and around, so this will be the front and this will be the back. But this is the presenting side, so I'll use that language to say, first I'm working on the presenting side, and then I'll work on this side. In order to work on the magic loop you have to set the front needle into the stitches. So I'm sliding it in so that these stitches are loaded up on the front needle and ready to go. And then I can't knit with this needle until I have enough cable to be able to pull it around and position it just like I normally would with any other type of needle. So this is why you need a 40 inch circular. I have pushed it and tried to do magic loop on something shorter. I'd say it's possible once you're proficient at this to use a 32 inch circular needle, but you might be kinking the cables a little bit because you're trying to get more length than you actually have. I would never do it with anything as short as a 24 inch. Not for using this method. So this is my magic loop that's pulled out over here. And what it is basically is it's lots of give so that I can pull a loop out over here and be able to work properly with my needles. So this is all a knit round. I'm going to make sure that the yarn is behind the needle. And the way that I remember this is, however I'm putting my needle into the first stitch, that's going to inform where the yarn is. If I was doing a pearl stitch where the yarn needs to be in front, I would want the yarn to be coming down here from underneath the needle because my first stitch is a knit, all I do is slip the needle in here in front of the yarn so that the yarn is behind the needle. So I'm going to work across the front needle here just like I normally would. I'm ignoring the fact that half of my sock is hanging out back here on the cable. I'm ignoring it and including it in my grip, however you grip your yarn in your project is fine. But I'm holding it all together here and that reduces ladders on the side. So I'm going to knit across, I believe I've got 42 stitches on each needle. And while I knit, I'll talk to you about stitch distribution. Because you have roughly half the stitches on the front and half the stitches on the other side, I like to divide my stitches perfectly in half. I have an 84 stitch sock. I've got 42 stitches on the front needle and 42 stitches on the back needle. And don't get too hung up on front and back because they're going to change as you go around and around. Just the presenting needle, the 42 presenting stitches that I'm working on here, and the 42 that are hanging out in the back just waiting for me to get to them. So I'm almost through with this round. And right now I'm just doing the regular knit stitch which is why I'm working going fast. If you're ready to work magic loop, you should be totally proficient with making the knit stitch, so I don't need to slow that down here. But I will slow down here as I get to the end. I've got three stitches left. Two stitches left. Here's my last stitch on the left hand needle. And after I'm finished working it, I have an empty needle on the left side and a full needle on the right side. So I'm going to turn my work

KNITFreedom - Magic Loop Knitting - Knitting in the Round on Magic Loop
http://knitfreedom.com/magic-loop Here's how to do Magic Loop for knitting hats, socks, and sweaters in the round. What is Magic Loop? Magic Loop, invented by Sarah Hauschka and first published by Beverly Galeskas, is the amazing technique of using one very long circular needle to knit anything you want, of any size, in the round. Instead of using a circular needle that is just the exact circumference of your knitted project, you use one that is very long, letting a loop of cable come out between the stitches. Magic Loop knitting uses one long circular needle to knit anything in the round, of any size. Why Magic Loop? Magic Loop solves all the problems inherent in other forms of round knitting, plus, it's easier, faster, and more fun! In all my experience knitting and teaching, Magic Loop is the best and easiest way to learn to knit in the round. Try on as you go With Magic Loop, you can try on anything you knit as you go, whether it be socks or gloves, and never worry about losing stitches off the ends of your DPNs, or being stabbed by the ninja star of death. Being able to try on your knitting is a big time-saver: discovering that what you are making is too small or too big before your are done is one easy way to save yourself hours and hours of re- knitting. No laddering With Magic Loop, the frustrating problem of laddering disappears. Even beginners just trying the method notice after their first few rounds that their tube is seamless and even, all the way around. Hooray! Cost-efective This is a boring but succinct way to say you don't have to spend so much money on needles! You just have to buy one length of needle, in whatever size your project (or gauge swatch) calls for, and that's it! Knit the biggest sweater to the tiniest novelty toy on one length of needle. You also won't have to carry so many diferent needles with you when you travel. Never use DPNs again! I almost forgot this one. This is a main selling point of Magic Loop to some of my students, who have become so frustrated with using DPNs that they give up knitting in the round until they discover the joy of Magic Loop. Now, you don't have to hate DPNs, or give them up, to appreciate what Magic Loop can do in your life. Make two-at-a-time One huge advantage to using Magic Loop is that is opens the door to knitting things two-at-a-time. We'll explore the wonders of knitting two-at-a-time in Learn To Knit Toe-Up Socks, in which I trick you into learning the two-at-a-time method without even trying. But for now, let me just say the words, "No more Second Sock Syndrome." Learn Magic Loop In this video, we'll make a sample tube just to get the hang of Magic Loop. In order to help you practice reading a pattern, here is what we are doing in the video, but written in pattern-speak: Materials • Needles: 40-47-inch circular needle, US size 7 or 8 • Yarn: 50 yds worsted-weight scrap yarn (preferably a light color, so you can see what you are doing). Pattern Instructions CO 20 sts. Join in the round using Magic Loop. Rnds 1-10: K. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB1sSOr0fG0
