https://pluginforage.com How to Enqueue a WordPress Child Theme Style Sheet If you don't know how to make a WordPress child theme you need to see this video first: https://youtu.be/WQ4JiOXXYqY We will look learn how to Enqueue a WordPress child theme: - Look at the old @import method - Create a functions.php - Enqueue the parent and child style.css Code Snippet used in the video: http://skeeterz71.com/how-to-enqueue-wordpress-child-theme-style-sheet/ For an in-depth video on how to create a child theme for WordPress, view my video "How to Create a WordPress Child Theme" Just note that you should ignore the @import method shown in that video and use the enqueue method shown in this video. The final step is to enqueue the parent and child theme stylesheets. Note that the previous method was to import the parent theme stylesheet using @import: this is no longer best practice. The correct method of enqueuing the parent theme stylesheet is to add a wp_enqueue_scripts action and use wp_enqueue_style() in your child theme's functions.php. You will therefore need to create a functions.php in your child theme directory. http://SkeeterZ71.com Video Tutorials: Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, WordPress, DNN Programming Tutorials: C, C#, C++, CSS, HTML, Java, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery

Every plugin or theme developer add JavaScript and CSS as per requirement. If one does not add it in standard way then it can be problematic. Lets say we are using 2 plugins X and Y. In X’s plugin author included jquery.js in bad way. Now Y’s plugin author also including jquery.js file which causing issue. It may be because jquery.js file added twice which may be of different versions. WordPress provides a system to add JS and CSS files. Every developr should use that system only. How to Create a WordPress Child Theme

09:53
FREE WooCommerce Plugins https://pluginforage.com A WordPress child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality and styling of another theme, called the parent theme. WordPress child themes are the recommended way of modifying an existing theme. The @import method shown in this video is an old method though it will work. You should enqueue your child theme now. View this video after you get done with this one to learn how: https://youtu.be/wnpyM6h9jE0 Why use a Child Theme? There are a few reasons why you would want to use a child theme: - If you modify a theme directly and it is updated, then your modifications may be lost. By using a child theme you will ensure that your modifications are preserved. - WordPress child themes are a non-destructive way to edit WordPress themes. - Using a child theme can speed up development time. - Using a child theme is a great way to learn about WordPress theme development. http://SkeeterZ71.com Video Tutorials: Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, WordPress, DNN Programming Tutorials: C, C#, C++, CSS, HTML, Java, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery

Add Font Awesome Icons To WordPress Manually Via The Functions.php File

07:49
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL Add Font Awesome Icons To WordPress Manually Via The Functions.php File https://youtu.be/U323QLDy3bQ Child theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBoW1PtcURo Blog post with font-awesome code: https://wplearninglab.com/font-awesome-icons-functions/ Download your exclusive 10-Point WP Security Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist The best way to add font awesome icons to your WP site without a plugin is by adding a code snippet inside your theme's functions.php file. It is safest to do this inside a child theme, which I'll get into in a minute. Why Create A Child Theme When you make changes to your theme's template files your changes can be overwritten when the theme is updated. Depending on your theme it may be updated every few months. When you create a child theme, the changes you make are not overwritten by parent theme updates. You may find the parent theme updates alter your child theme's appearance because the developer may update files that you modified in your child theme. So you may have to make adjustments when the parent theme is updated, but that's pretty rare. Now that you know the value of a child theme, if you want to create one I've created a step-by-step video tutorial for you (YouTube link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBoW1PtcURo&list=PLlgSvQqMfii6X3D9S4mwM_inUYv8gq564&index=3 Adding Font Awesome Code To Your Theme Now, in your parent theme or child theme, whichever one you have, hover over to the appearance menu and click on editor as shown on the screenshot below. This will open a list of all the files in your theme. In my example, I'm using a child theme that contains two files, the functions.php file and the style.css file. We'll deal with the functions file first. Go to the functions file and paste in this code as shown in the screenshot below: What this code does is enqueue (or add) the Font Awesome stylesheet to the website header. If you look closely at the code you copied and pasted, you can see that it's for Font Awesome version 4.7. That's the most recent version as of this writing and version 5.0 is coming soon. When there are updates to Font Awesome and you want the new icons you'll need to update this code. For example, if version 4.7.1 comes out, you will need change 4.7.0 to 4.7.1 in the URL you copied and pasted. This will load the new font awesome icons. Manually updating like this is a drawback, but you can solve it by using the Font Awesome plugin. Using Font Awesome Icons Now that you have the code added to your site, the next step is to add the font awesome icons. To do so head over the Font Awesome website: http://fontawesome.io/ Find the Icon You Need Once you're on the font awesome site, you'll need to find the code for the icon you want on your site. Find the icons menu and click on All Icons. There are 675 of them as of this writing. Pick the one you want. For the purpose of this tutorial, I picked out the recycle icon because today is recycling day in my neighbourhood. Read the rest on the blog: https://wplearninglab.com/font-awesome-icons-functions/ I hope this information helps you! 4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab

08:08
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL 4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab To edit WordPress CSS you first need to know all the places you can find CSS. There are 4 common places. You may not have all these locations on your website because some of them are theme-dependent. The possible CSS locations are: 1. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet (this one you have for sure) 2. The theme options panel (this one you may or may not have) 3. A CSS editor on each page and post (this one you may or may not have) 4. Inline CSS applied directly to HTML elements on the page (this one you will have only if you're written it) Let's go through each one. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet When inside your WordPress dashboard if you click on Appearance then Editor you will be able to edit theme or child theme files. Usually the style.css is loaded first by default. If it's not loaded find the style.css file in the list of files on the right side of the editor page. When you find it, click on it. That will open the CSS file in WordPress editor. At this point you can make edits to the file and click on the Update button to save your changes. How to actually code CSS is beyond the scope of this tutorial, but you can check out my CSS channel over here (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeFLITjl2v9vtIkftw9UMsw) The danger in editing CSS directly in the stylesheet of the main theme is that what you create may be over written when the theme updates. You get around this problem by creating a child theme (see a tutorial on how to create a WordPress child theme here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ). The theme options panel Not every theme has a theme options panel, but the ones that do make WordPress CSS so much easier to edit. You can simply add CSS to the CSS box in the theme options and click save changes. The upside is that theme updates won't erase the CSS code you create. A CSS editor on each page and post Some themes, like Avada and Divi, give you the option of insert CSS code right into the individual posts and pages of your website. This is great for CSS that you want to be only one page. I would only recommend doing this if you're putting more than 100 lines of CSS into the page. If it's less than 100 lines of CSS you're better to put into the main stylesheet so you stay organized. If it's more than 100 lines of CSS code that only need to exist on one page then your site will load a little bit faster overall by not loading all that CSS into every page. Inline CSS The last place in our list and the last place you'd want to create CSS code is right in your HTML elements. This is called inline CSS and can be difficult to work with for two big reasons. First, you can't apply the CSS to more than one element at a time. So if you want to style all the paragraphs on the page in the same way you have to apply the same CSS code over and over again to each p tag. This is a pain to administer and will result in larger than needed page sizes. Second, if you add inline CSS to lots of pages it will be come difficult to remember what CSS you applied where. Then trying to find it an make edits will become a pain. Inline CSS also takes precedent over CSS in the stylesheet. So you might be make changes to CSS in the stylesheet, but nothing is happening on the page. You'll go through a frustrating few minutes before you figure out the CSS is actually inline on the page. I hope this information helps you! How to make a Child Theme for your Wordpress Website - A foolproof guide

How to make a Child Theme for your Wordpress Website - A foolproof guide Full article: http://imstartpage.com/create-child-theme-wordpress-foolproof-guide Follow me on other media: ►Website: http://www.guidoshowtos.com ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/guidoshowtos ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/guidoshowtos ►Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Guidoshowtos Music used: Funky Junky (audionautix.com) Annotations: First, make a folder. Right-click → New → Folder, name it, and hit 'Enter'. This folder will be the theme folder on your website. Open the folder. In this folder, make a text document: Right-click → New → Text document. Name it 'style.css', and hit 'Enter'. A pop-up will appear. Click 'Yes'. Copy, and paste template child theme text (see video description). Now, replace the bracketed text. Theme Name: The name of your child theme. I'm making a child theme for the 'Iconic one' theme for this demo. Therefore I call it "Demo Child theme Iconic one" For the Description, you can elaborate a bit more, for instance, by describing the customizations your child theme makes. For 'Author', you can enter your own name. 'Template' HAS to be the name of the parent theme folder. Usually, this is just the name of the theme. If you're not sure what your theme folder name is, read the full article (link in the description) to learn how to find out. Also replace the import url with the parent folder name. When you're done, click File → Save. Then, close the text editor and the folder. Now, you need to turn the folder into a .ZIP file. I use WinRAR for this. If don't have WinRAR, you can download it for free (link in the description.) Right-click the folder, and click 'Add to archive'. Select ZIP as your Archive format, and click 'OK'. This ZIP file is your finished child theme! In WordPress, click 'Appearance' → 'Themes'. Make sure you have the parent theme on your site. Don't delete this theme. Click 'Add New', and then 'Upload theme'. Click 'Choose File', select your child theme, and clik 'open'. Then, click 'Install Now'. Click 'Activate' to activate your child theme. Click Appearance → Editor to access your child theme's stylesheet.css. Note that this is the style.css file we made earlier. You can now add your customizations to the child theme's stylesheet.css. Any custom CSS you add to the sheet will override the CSS in the parent theme. For example, I copy CSS code that changes some colors in my theme. Click 'Update File' to update your child theme's stylesheet. This is what my theme looked like before. I hit F5 to reload the page with the customizations. It works! Note that the menus and widgets have been reset. You have to manually put these back for your child theme.

How to create child theme in Wordpress

11:04
Step by step guide to create a child theme. Child theme is always important for wordpress if you want to make any kind of scripting changes in your website. Most of the time we buy premium theme and then make scripting changes directly and whenever we got updates from the theme owner and our all changes lost. To overcome this a child theme is so important. Basically we need to create only two files calles style.css and functions.php. Style.css file helps our theme to show in the themes section of wordpress in the wp-admin. However we use functions.php file to add parent theme style.css file to include in website as you will find it in video. At last you can upload you child theme from the admin section of the wordpress after zipping it or you can transfer it by using FTP (Filezilla Client). Choose which suits you better. Sometimes when your hosting is write protected then direct uploading of theme is not possible so you can use FTP for it. Questions? Please write your comment.
