How-to Style a Bonsai tree: Before After #1

1027 ratings | 179185 views
How-to make and style a Bonsai tree? Tree before and after being styled? A common misconception is that the plants used for Bonsai are genetically 'dwarfed' plants. Bonsai trees are normal plants, propagated like any other, but trained using sophisticated techniques to keep them in miniature size. The styling of Bonsai trees includes basic methods like regular pruning and wiring, but also more advanced techniques including the creation of deadwood. I see so many trying to advise on what is wrong with the bonsai .i believe if u a real bonsai fan , then the tree will tell u exactly how it wants to stand.just my 2 cents.no right or wrong.its a personal relationship between u and the bonsai.

Certainly Chinese elms are popular. Good work except for the large root is out of proportion to the trunk and the tree.

mikbonsai Not actually bad idea. I'll think about it :)

Tino G, You could ground layer it and have top as a proper tree and grow the bottom as a raft style. I had a similar problem with my English Elm and that is what I did. You can see the videos of the original ground layer and then the two trees in a recent video, showing the progress of the top and the lower part being grown as raft style. The title of the this latest video is: How to grow Raft style Bonsai. I thought I would mention it as there are other options apart from simply removing the ugly surface roots.

mikbonsai I totally agree with you. Im quite new to bonsai and i have similar root on my ficus. It makes finding right pot harder, also it limits potting angle radically. Im going to remove it next spring tho.
That large root should be removed.
Nigel Saunders, The Bonsai Zone , yes that is the only odd thing.

No, it won't. An important point in bonsai root system it to make it radial without any large/major roots. If that huge root dies, the tree would die since that root is responsible for delivering nutritions to the tree. Overall goal is to have a radial root system, with a flat middle. I agree with Nagel

Nigel Saunders, The Bonsai Zone if that was cut the tree would slowly start to die
