Haken - Celestial Elixir

from Aquarius 2010 (C) Do not own copyrights Oh, I still hear the angels song Whispered by a child that once belonged With tears of joy So white The colour of a restless night More than a faint memory can provide If years go by Fear and pain will sustain in your eyes She may never return But I can wait forever If we can't make amends I'll chase your rainbow till the end Find us a cure for your disease Spare us your ancient remedy If this is all I ever ask Emptiness is all I ever had Our lives are scarred from deep with in Scales grow all over our skin A miracle is all I'll ever need To cure them all Holding onto my amphibian dream She may never return But I can wait forever If we can't make amends I'll chase your rainbow till the end Find us a cure for your disease Spare us your ancient remedy If this is all I ever ask Emptiness is all I ever had The calm that comes after the storm The tide that never reaches the shore So heavenly Your remedy When love prevails Swallowing the blood of enemies She may never return But I will wait forever If we can not make amends I'll chase your rainbow till the end Streams of light unite with water Running through our veins Streams of blood like liquid Love is running through our veins

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Prog Metal. The music is extremely technical, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the instrumental passages will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Meshuggah's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into their albums - their personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these musical pieces, to realize that Prog Metal is not just normal music- it says something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Prog Metal truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the wit in James LaBrie's existencial phrase "Trapped inside this Octavarium" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as John Petrucci's genius unfolds itself to their ears. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have an Opeth tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Konstantin S. Uvarin (1 month ago)
That part sounds a bit like Camel "Highways of the sun" / "Unevensong" or Gryphon "Flash in the pantry". Both prog rock from 1970s. No idea what other and/or earlier influences it has...

I heard about Haken this year and I was never that impressed as I am since I heard Dream Theater first time, and honestly I prefer Haken over "Portnoyless" DT. This song is absurd in the best way possible, perfect technique and feeling

Damn, The Mountain might be their best album, but this one is their best song for sure. It gives the old gods of progressive rock a run for their money.

I got a question and it may be really stupid, but i checked on Haken´s webpage and i saw that Richard Henshall played both keyboards and guitar, and i wondered how does he do to play live, when both instruments are playing at the same time?
KeeperArq (2 years ago)
Look for the live version of this song.

+mikeydale007 Ok, that makes sense, more sense than the toe thing at least

Nah, it's just that people have different opinions about music. Personally I like the blending and fading of genres so music isn't limited to stay within a single genre.

Václav Kapsia (3 years ago)
You wanna know what happened? Dream Theater and Neal Morse with Transatlantic invented a new genre and did pretty good but never lived up to the genre's potential. They couldn't, they didn't have enough time for that. They will never reach the top of the mountain but they carried Haken halfway up in hope that they will make it. And you know what? Haken did it. They reached The Mountain (2013)
Renzo (4 months ago)
Really? I mean, I agree with most of your comment, but I think The glass prison is an awesome song
Renzo (4 months ago)
they invented prog metal
spore bubu (1 year ago)
Invented a new genre?Bruh Prog Rock was a thing since the 70s You mean a new sound
Rons Dad (1 year ago)
No, Dream Theater created the mountain, and I love Haken, but Dream Theater has a LOT more diversity if you look at their repitoir. I mean, look at Falling into Infinity to Train of Thought, they sound COMPLETELY different. Once Haken does something like that, maybe I'll change my mind. Dream Theater aren't just Geniuses on their instruments, they're Geniuses with music. I bet they could write a song of any genre, and it would be at the top of the rung. Sadly, their new stuff definitely isn't as diverse or good as their older stuff, but there are still some gold nuggets in that pile as well.
gripNslip (1 year ago)
