Hi Grensom, Thanks for sharing this great video. I followed your instructions step-by-step and had my MagicMIrror2 up and running. However, I decided to delve into the backend to customise it a little bit. My MagicMirror shows 4 calendars, Google Calendar, Facebook Birthdays, Facebook Events and Holidays in Malta (my country). It also shows 2 news feeds, from Reuters and Sky News (I removed the New York Times RSS feed), together with the current time and weather, a 7-day weather forecast and personalised compliments. The next step will be the installation of the 2-way mirror. Eventually, I will probably enable Google Assistant, touchscreen technology, and connect to it a motion sensor. In the meantime, if you would like to have a see how my MagicMirror2 looks like, go to https://goo.gl/mVnQfh.

how do you fix the dependency ?
David Celayos (2 months ago)
How do you set it to portrait mode? I can’t seem to be able to get it and I’ve tried everything. I did the following: sudo nano /boot/config.text Display_rotate=1 Nothing happens. I also expanded the file thing to 128m can’t really remember what it’s called. None of this works.

I'm having problems connecting VNC also, I've run the command right but I can't enable it in Raspi-config. Do I need to create an account and sign in?

Hey is it possible for you to make a video on how to connect led strips to your rasbeery pi and then making them react to google assistant.

This is the most well done tutorial for smart mirrors I've ever come across. Thanks a lot! I have one problem and I can't find a solution. After the long command at 14:06, my raspberry pi seems to autostart at the MagicMirror right then and there. Is it normal that I don't need to run the commands you show after in the video, such as the creation of the mm.sh script?
Vartan Benohanian (5 months ago)
Thanks a lot for the quick reply. Clears up a lot. Appreciate it.
Grensom (5 months ago)
So it looks like with the bash command to download the MagicMirror software, it prompts you whether you want to download the pm2 function or not. If you chose yes, then you can skip the whole "Auto-Boot" section of the video. If you type: "pm2 list" it will probably show you the MagicMirror file is active. The mm.sh is just another file I created if you download the pm2 software after the fact and need to create your own file.

I go through the video but facing 1 issue. Packages from nodesource not able to download Facing below issue Err:1 https://deb.nodesource.com/node_9.x stretch InRelease Failed to connect to deb.nodesource.com port 443: Connection refused
Grensom (5 months ago)
Hmmm, it looks like there may be an issue with compatibility with Stretch. Maybe try using an older version of the Raspbian Image (I used Raspbian Jessie in the video).
Juan Smit (5 months ago)
Hi @Grenson , Thanx for the tutorial ! I followed every step and it all works perfect! However , is there a way to incorporate a motion sensor to this so the mirror only goes on when you are in front of it ? Sorry I read thru most of the comments and could not find anyone asking the same question , so sorry in advance if this has already been asked before ! Thanx again ! Got everyone I know to sub you !
Juan Smit (5 months ago)
or so the motion sensor just gets the display out of the 5min sleep timer..

You should add installing "unclutter" to the your list. This will get rid of the mouse while the magic mirror is running.

Hi...What is use of vcn viewer ?I have os installed in raspberry pi..I have monitor with raspberry pi...can I directly can I install the magic mirror with installing van viewer?
Grensom (7 months ago)
Yes the VNC viewer is absolutely optional, there is no need to do that step. I just did that incase you want to remote into the Pi in order to change some settings on the software through a laptop or such. But again no need to do this

Could we integrate google assistant in It ???
ghobika thejes (8 months ago)
though i was connected with laptop to rashperry pi by USB cable. rashperry screen doesn't display on my laptop...what to do?
Grensom (8 months ago)
The Raspberry Pi is a mini PC, so the USB is simply just for power supply. What you need to do is power it through the USB and then you need to use an HDMI to connected to some type of Monitor.

how to connect raspberry to laptop ??and can we progress by downloading raspberry stretch os caz the os u download in this video is not available in google.. pls guide me for doing ths as i am going to do project titled magic mirror thank you ..
bharath kumar (8 months ago)
The procedure for os raspberry stretch is totally different compare to the procedure for raspberry Jessie which you download in ths video so pls pls guide me for my project we have only very short period of time
Grensom (8 months ago)
Yes, typically you should still format the SD Card, It might not be necessary but I like to reformat it anyways. If you put it on without formatting it and it starts up in your Pi then you are all set though
ghobika thejes (8 months ago)
thanks, i have bought a new sd card that was empty already so in this case should i download the sd formatter
Grensom (8 months ago)
You need a Micro USB Cable to connect your Raspberry Pi to your PC. Additionally, you should be able to use the newer Raspberry Stretch with this method the same as I used Jessie.
Marco Biondan (8 months ago)
I used a rasperry more zero w can you tell me why it does not work?
Grensom (8 months ago)
I am not exactly sure how to set up the Pi Zero with this method. I saw a tutorial on how someone was able to but there is something special about the Zero that makes it difficult to do this. I will update with a link when I find the Article about this

Thanks for the video, it was interesting. I noted that the time displayed does not match the time in the weather, any idea why? And does your data match your metrological services data, mine seems to be out in the forecast.

Grensom (10 months ago)
You need to flash your Pi's SD card with an OS first to start as shown in the video and also make sure when you power up you are using the correct Wall Adpater - should be like 5V 1-2A
